Chapter 108: Dinner

The soft glow of the fairy lights casting a warm halo around them as they talked late into the night, their laughter and whispers filling the room as they couldn’t bear to separate from each other, not even for a moment.

And for Yvette, she felt like the holiday was more than just a break from work, it was a chance to reconnect with the person she loved most.

And as she rested her head on his shoulder, she knew that this was where she was meant to be and couldn’t wait to conclude filming so they could be together without being away from each other for so long again.

The blinding morning sun filtered through the light curtains in Leila’s cozy apartment, casting a warm glow on the room.

She stretched and yawned as she stepped into the kitchen, her hair tied up in a loose bun. She was about to start cooking breakfast when she heard the soft patter of footsteps behind her.

"Good morning, Leila!". There came the cheerful voice of her younger sister, Dani who was descending down the stairs.

Leila turned, surprised to see Dani awake so early. "Dani, you’re up already? It’s the weekend. I thought you’d sleep in."

Dani shrugged with a sheepish grin. "I felt like helping out today. You’ve been away for so long, working and all and I missed you so much, you always take care of everything, so I figured it’s my turn to spoil you today."

"Really". Leila’s lips curled into a pleased smile.

It wasn’t like Dani to take the initiative with chores or speak so much words I’m a go but recently, she’d noticed a change in her sister.

Dani seemed more confident, more willing to engage with the world and come out of her now broken she’ll and Leila couldn’t help but feel proud of her sister who was now breaking free of the trauma that chained her.

"Alright then, milady". Leila smiled and said, handing her a basket of vegetables. "Wash these for me then" .

As the morning progressed, the two sisters worked together, chatting about trivial things while they tidied up the apartment and prepared lunch.

Leila was slicing some tofu when Dani suddenly hesitated, her hands pausing over the sink.

All through the morning, Leila had noticed that although she was more different than before, much more outspoken but she could still notice her slight reluctance as though she was hiding something from her or didn’t know how to approach her about something.

"Out with it". Leila said without looking up, she could sense her already fidgeting with her hands wand wondered what it was to get her so worked up .

"What?" Dani replied, feigning innocence.

Leila turned to face her, raising an eyebrow. "You want to say something. Just spit it out."

Dani dried her hands with a towel, biting her lip. "Fine. My friend invited me for dinner tonight, and I... I want you to come with me."

Leila blinked in surprise. "Dinner? With your friend, a friend that you’re already so intimate with and visiting? Which friend and why didn’t I know about this earlier?"

"It’s a secret so will you come with me or not?". Dani asked, grinning mischievously.

Leila took a while and studied her sister, her surprise quickly giving way to a warm sense of pride. Dani had always been shy and reserved, but it seemed like she was starting to come out of her shell and that she was extremely grateful for and she couldn’t wait to see which friend could get her so excited.

"Alright". Leila nodded with a smile as she added. "If it’s that important to you, I’ll go."

"Really?!" Dani’s face lit up in excitement as she jumped up excitedly. "Thank you, Leila! You won’t regret it."

-----------------+--

The drive to the dinner location was quiet, with Dani humming softly to herself while Leila focused on the road.

And as Leila pulled her car to a stop in front of a grand mansion, the address Dani had instructed, her jaw dropped slightly.

"Dani... this is where your friend lives?" Leila asked, her eyes wide as she took in the sprawling estate with its ornate gates and manicured lawns suddenly wondering who this friend was before she got so worked up.

"Yup!" Dani replied, hopping out of the car. "Come on, Leila . Don’t just sit there!"

Leila shook her head, stepping out and locking the car. Dani grabbed her hand, tugging her toward the gate where two figures stood waiting.

The first was a young lady about the same ages as Dani’s age, with a warm smile and a welcoming demeanor.

And beside her stood a tall man dressed in a casual but well tailored outfit, his hands tucked into his pockets as he observed their approach.

"Linda!" Dani called out excitedly, waving at the young lady who seemed so excited to see her.

Linda waved back. "Hey, Dani! You finally made it!"

As they drew closer to the spot where Linda and the face she couldn’t get much sight of was waiting, Leila’s steps slowed involuntarily.

Her heart skipped a beat as recognition set in. The tall man beside Linda wasn’t just anyone , it was Tyrell. Tyrell.

Now wonder the young lady felt somewhat awfully familiar, turns out they’ve met once already, at Dani’s school a long while ago and that was the first time she met Tyrell.

Her eyes widened in shock as she called out, unwilling to believe her eyes. "Tyrell?" She whispered under her breath.

Tyrell’s lips curved into a knowing smile, his calm demeanor a stark contrast to Leila’s surprised ones.

"Good evening sister, my name is Linda" . Linda hopped forward, her tufts of blonde hair flowing with the wind as she introduced herself excitedly and Leila couldn’t help but admit that she was quite like her brother in every way . They both were quite the charmers.

"And this is my brother, Tyrell". Linda said cheerfully, motioning toward Tyrell who stood still, hands tucked in his pocket and he took in Leila’s shocked expression.

"This is brother Tyrell. He’s the one who helped us the other day at school. Remember?" . Dani hopped forward, holding her palm eagerly as she explained, worried that her sister had already forgotten.

Dani turned to Leila, her eyes sparkling. "You remember, don’t you, Leila?" .

Leila’s mouth opened and closed as she tried to process the situation. "Why are you calling a stranger ’brother’?" . She questioned her excited sister.

"He’s not a stranger!" Dani protested. "And besides, Linda’s my friend. Quickly greet brother!" She nudged Leila forward, her voice teasing but insistent.

Leila shot her sister a glare but reluctantly stepped closer to Tyrell, feigning ignorance.

"Hello, I’m Leila. Dani’s elder sister" She said stiffly, barely meeting his eyes.

Tyrell chuckled softly, his voice low and smooth as he held her hand quite intimately. "I was searching for you yesterday. I guess you left the set early. I was hoping to invite you over yet it seems like fate is completely on my side" .

Leila could only curse him a million times under her breath as he completed his words. He just didn’t know how to take the lead, does he ?.

Dani looked up, startled. "You know my sister?"

"Yes". Tyrell replied simply, his eyes never leaving Leila’s whose gaze was stuck to the floor. "She’s my colleague from work".

Dani, oblivious to the tension between them, grinned. "So why are you being shy, Leila ? He’s being so nice."

"Let’s get inside before we all turn into snowmen" . Linda interjected, her voice light and teasing.

Tyrell stepped aside, motioning toward the house. "After you, ladies". He said, his tone polite but with a hint of amusement.

Leila hesitated for a moment before following Dani and Linda inside, Tyrell closely following behind her.

---

The interior of the mansion was just as grand as the exterior. High ceilings adorned with crystal chandeliers, polished marble floors, and walls lined with tasteful artwork gave the space an air of understated luxury.

Leila couldn’t help but feel slightly out of place.

"This way". Linda said, leading them to a cozy sitting room where a fire crackled in the fireplace.

Dani plopped onto the couch, clearly at ease, while Leila perched on the edge of a chair, her posture stiff.

Tyrell took a seat across from her, his gaze steady and unreadable.

"Hey, Ty. When will dinner be ready or are we all going to starve to death, that’s why I kept reminding you to be fast with everything". Linda frowned , playfully throwing a cushion at Tyrell who smiled and one could see how so much he adored his younger sister.

He was so different from how he used to be, no arrogance but his smirk and slight teasing aura was still there, he was just so warm and cozy that she didn’t know how to get used to this side of him.

"Okay, Mlady. Dinner will be ready in a bit, I promise". He bowed in a gentlemanly and playful manner and the girls laughed at his gesture.

He then turned to face Leila as he smiled warmly. "Make yourself comfortable".

"Leila, why don’t you go join and help brother Tyrell in the kitchen. Two good heads are better than one afterall". Dani smiled and under the girls inquisitive gaze, she reluctantly stood up and followed him watching as Linda and Dani chatted about school and mutual friends.
