Rory knew this was true.
She wasn’t afraid of hard work.
She had chosen Elysian simply for the money.
Elysian’s patients were all either wealthy or powerful.
These people, even for something as simple as an appendectomy, would demand an experienced director to perform the surgery.
Even an associate director would be looked down upon.
Let alone a young, regular doctor like Rory Linden.
The anesthesiologist for today’s surgery was Evan Hollis.
"That’s what happened with that one surgery, wasn’t it? It was just a cardiac stent procedure. The patient was about to be wheeled into the OR when the family suddenly demanded a different doctor, insisting on Director Hawthorne."
Evan Hollis couldn’t help but feel it was unfair to Rory.

Before the surgery, Rory had communicated with the patient and their family many times.

They kicked up a fuss, claiming Elysian Hospital was using them as practice for a new doctor.
In the end, it really was Keith Hawthorne who performed the surgery.

As Rory spoke, she also completed the final touches of the surgery.

Miles Harrison started to let go, only to realize Rory hadn’t taken the flowers at all.
"Young Master Harrison, I have a boyfriend. I don’t need anyone else buying me flowers. I’m having dinner with you only because I want Auntie Vincent’s contact information."
Rory found Miles Harrison more and more laughable.
When they were dating, the man had never once given her flowers.
Now that they were broken up, he was falling all over himself to do the things a couple should do.
