Chapter 88: Chapter 88: A Hickey Revealed

The man was too close, his warm breath ghosting over her ear as he spoke.

His voice was utterly bewitching.

Rory Linden looked out the window. "But... but it’s not even dark out!"

Sean Harrison’s arm wrapped around the woman’s waist. He easily clasped her hand, his thumb gently caressing her palm. "Last night, you were drunk..."

"Does it not count if I was drunk?"

"When people are drunk, their cognitive abilities are impaired. You might not have truly wanted to become more intimate with me. Alcohol reduces inhibitions." Sean Harrison looked at Rory Linden’s face. "That’s why it’s so easy for people to get reckless after drinking."

Rory Linden gazed into the man’s dark eyes as the memories of last night flooded her mind again.

Maybe it was because of the alcohol, but it all felt a little unreal.

’Like it was all just a dream...’

"Well, there’s also ’in vino veritas’," Rory Linden argued defensively. "I don’t lie, whether I’m drinking or not."

"I don’t know..." Sean Harrison leaned in slightly and kissed the woman’s lips. "Let’s test it..."

Rory Linden kissed him back.

She discovered that her senses were indeed exceptionally sharp when she was wide awake during the day.

The man’s lips were warmer and softer than she had imagined.

The man placed both hands on her waist, guiding her to straddle his lap.

Bright sunlight poured through the ultra-clear glass.

It cascaded over the two of them.

So warm.

Sitting like this, Rory Linden was a little taller than the man.

She wrapped her arms around the man’s neck, her eyes slightly lowered. From this angle, she could clearly see his long, thick eyelashes, his high-bridged nose, and, further down, the pectoral muscles fully visible because the top buttons of his shirt were undone.

’Sean Harrison really is top-tier in every aspect.’

’Even if he hadn’t been born into the Harrington Family and wasn’t a businessman, with just this face, this body...’

’...plenty of women would be lining up to pay his way.’

Rory Linden’s hand traced the man’s Adam’s apple as she voiced the thought in her head. "Mr. Harrison... if you ever run out of money, you can come to me. I’ll work hard and support you..."

Sean Harrison pinched her waist. "Call me by my name."

"S-Sean Harrison..."

It seemed Rory Linden had gotten so used to the formal address that she hadn’t switched.

"Good. Then it’s a deal."

As soon as he finished speaking, Sean Harrison’s fingers laced behind the woman’s head, his tongue parting her pearly teeth.

He then trailed kisses down her slender neck, settling in the hollow of her throat.

Rory Linden wasn’t sure if it was the gentle sunlight, but she felt that the man’s kisses were even milder than before.

He was patient, taking his time.

As a result, the entire experience was wonderful for Rory Linden.

It was completely different from what she had studied or heard her senior colleagues talk about. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

’Only the aching back and sore legs were real...’

When it was over and Rory Linden went to take a shower, she discovered in the mirror that her body was covered in marks from their lovemaking. The highest one was on the side of her neck, and she wondered if her shirt collar would be able to hide it.

-

「The next morning.」

After trying, Rory Linden concluded that her shirt collar definitely couldn’t hide the hickey.

After getting dressed, she went back to the bathroom to cover the hickey with concealer.

"What’s wrong?"

Sean Harrison entered the bathroom.

Last night, because the mattress in the guest room needed to be replaced, she had no choice but to sleep with him in the master bedroom.

When they had fallen asleep, they were clearly on their own sides of the bed.

But when she woke up this morning, she was already in his arms, both of her hands clinging tightly to his arm as if she had no intention of letting go.

’It’s like all my modesty before bed was just an act.’

’So embarrassing.’

So now, she felt a little flustered seeing Sean Harrison.

The man noticed her covering the hickey with concealer and took the initiative to apologize. "I’m sorry. I couldn’t help myself yesterday. I won’t leave a mark there next time."

"Here, here, and here—none of these spots are okay." Rory Linden pulled down her collar slightly, pointing to several bright red hickeys in an accusatory tone. "It’s a good thing I don’t have surgery today. Otherwise, people would see them when I change into my scrubs..."

"Okay."

Sean Harrison readily agreed.

Rory Linden tilted her head, looking at the emotionally stable man beside her who seemed to go along with her every wish.

The morning light fell on him through the glass, making him seem exceptionally gentle.

"Sean Harrison," Rory Linden began, "no matter why you chose me, as long as there is no betrayal and no deception between us, and you don’t tell me to leave, I will stay by your side."

A smile had been playing on Sean Harrison’s lips.

When the woman said the word "deception," the smile on his face stiffened slightly.

Sean Harrison didn’t respond to her statement. Instead, he turned and said, "Breakfast is ready. Come and eat. I’ll drive you to the hospital."

-

Rory Linden had clinic duty today.

She had a total of three appointments scheduled for the morning.

Rory Linden had seen all three patients and it was nearly time for her lunch break.

The nurse opened the door. "Dr. Linden, wait a moment. A patient just got added to your schedule."

"You can send them in."

Rory Linden, who had already stood up, sat back down.

She pulled up the previous patient’s EKG on her computer and reviewed it one more time.

She heard the clinic door open.

"Hello, what seems to be the problem?" As she asked, Rory Linden finally looked up from her computer screen toward the patient. "Young Master Harrison, can I help you?"

The patient who had come in was Miles Harrison.

The man sat down, clutching an appointment slip in his hand.

"Rory, I wanted to tell you, Lucy Shaw’s baby isn’t mine." Miles Harrison’s tone was laced with self-mockery. "You must think I deserved it, right? That I brought this on myself."

"Young Master Harrison," Rory Linden said, her face devoid of expression, "I couldn’t care less about your affairs. And I don’t see anything wrong with your heart. You should go get a refund for your appointment."

"Rory, do we really have to be so hostile? We’ve known each other for twenty years. After all I’ve done for you in those twenty years, can’t you at least treat me with a better attitude?"

Miles Harrison showed no intention of leaving, his tone even sounding entitled.

Rory Linden was about to call security to remove him, but his words made her unable to resist asking, "Young Master Harrison, besides the Harrington Family paying for my education, what exactly have you done for me?"

"Lots of things, like..."

Miles Harrison started to speak, but then trailed off.

"Young Master Harrison, the Harrington Family did indeed pay for my education. But most of the hardship I endured during those years was because of you."

For as long as Rory Linden could remember, most of her life’s memories were connected to Miles Harrison.

And they were not good memories.

"It wasn’t that bad!" Miles Harrison stood up anxiously. "Rory, even if I didn’t help you, I certainly didn’t cause you any hardship!"

"Then let’s just say you didn’t. If you don’t care about the appointment fee, Young Master Harrison, you can consider it a donation to the hospital." Rory Linden also stood up and began to walk out. "I have work to do. I’m leaving."

"Wait!"

Anxious, Miles Harrison grabbed Rory Linden’s arm.

As she turned her head, he clearly saw a prominent hickey peeking out from beneath her collar.
