Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 65: "Patients Should Listen to Their Doctors.
The seatbelt clicked shut, and Rory Linden’s mind froze for a second.
No wonder Sean Harrison had been silent earlier. She’d assumed he was just worried about Miles Harrison.
’So he thought I was worried about Miles!’
"No," Rory Linden said, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. "I was thinking about you. You haven’t fully recovered, and you just took a shower. I was worried your condition would worsen at the hospital and you’d just tough it out without saying anything."
Sean Harrison looked over, his expression visibly softening.
Rory Linden took her hands off the steering wheel. "Why don’t you go by yourself? I can wait here."
"Let’s go together," Sean said.
The traffic was light at night, and they reached the Elysian Hospital parking lot in about ten minutes.
The two of them went to the emergency room lobby together.
In the empty corridor, Evelyn Irving and Lucy Shaw sat waiting, while the Harrington family’s driver stood off to the side.
"How is he?"
Sean Harrison hurried over.
When Evelyn Irving looked up, her eyes were swollen from crying.
She seemed startled to see Rory Linden behind Sean, but she wiped away her tears and said to him, "I don’t know. We got a call saying Miles’s car had lost control and crashed into the median strip. He was still unconscious when we got here. We don’t know when he’ll wake up..."
"Was anyone else hurt?" Sean asked.
"The police said no," Evelyn Irving replied. "The traffic police have already been to the scene, and I think the car has been towed away."
For a family like the Harringtons, as long as no one outside the vehicle was injured, the details of a car crash—whether it hit a tree or a median guardrail—were inconsequential. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"I’m going to ask about Miles’s condition."
Sean Harrison turned to find the doctor.
As a doctor at Elysian Hospital, Rory Linden could have easily found a colleague to ask about Miles Harrison’s condition.
But she also knew that wouldn’t be appropriate.
She stayed by Sean Harrison’s side, accompanying him to find the on-duty emergency room doctor and ask about Miles Harrison’s condition.
Thankfully, because the car had airbags and wasn’t going particularly fast, Miles Harrison had only suffered a fractured rib from the impact. His injuries were not life-threatening.
After reporting the situation, the doctor noticed Rory Linden behind Sean and said with a smile, "Oh, Dr. Linden, you’re here too. If you have any questions, you can just contact me directly. I’ll keep you updated, and you can relay the information to the family."
"That won’t be necessary. She’s just here with me, and we’ll be leaving soon. Please speak with the family directly."
Sean Harrison immediately declined the doctor’s offer.
The ER doctor, who was unaware of Rory Linden’s relationship status, readily agreed. "All right, I’ll talk to the family if anything comes up. But it’s nothing serious. A fractured rib just needs rest."
"Yes, that’s right. As long as it’s not a severe fracture, it isn’t a major issue."
Rory Linden added, backing up the on-duty ER doctor.
"It’s not serious. We’ve already stabilized it. Recovery might take two or three months, but the important thing is that he’s okay."
The on-duty doctor agreed.
When Sean Harrison returned to the corridor, Evelyn Irving and Lucy Shaw were in the middle of a heated discussion.
Seeing Sean approach, Evelyn Irving immediately said, "Sean, I was just thinking, Miles must have been set up! He wasn’t drinking, and the roads were fine. How could he possibly get into such a serious accident out of the blue!"
"My driver said he saw a suspicious person in the parking lot," Sean said. "I sent Miles a message about it this evening."
He didn’t mention that Rory Linden was the one who had seen the person.
Evelyn Irving froze. "He didn’t! He didn’t say a word about it!"
A tense silence fell for a few seconds.
Evelyn Irving’s eyes immediately reddened. "I just called him, and he even hung up on me! Said he was busy!"
It’s hard for an outsider to mediate family disputes.
There wasn’t much Sean Harrison could say.
Evelyn Irving picked up her phone to call her husband.
She called several times, but no one answered.
She looked at Sean Harrison and said, "Sean, let me use your phone. I’ll try calling him from your number."
Sean Harrison handed her his phone.
The call connected.
"Sean, what’s wrong?" Ronan Harrison asked.
"Ronan Harrison!" Evelyn Irving immediately snapped. "You’ve been ignoring my calls on purpose, haven’t you! Do you have any idea what’s happened?!"
"What could possibly have happened?"
In Ronan Harrison’s eyes, anything Evelyn considered a major event was a trivial matter.
He never paid them any mind.
"Did Sean send you a message this afternoon saying someone was seen tampering with our son’s car in the parking lot?"
"I think... there was something like that."
"Then why didn’t you tell me!"
Evelyn Irving’s voice was already trembling.
Ronan Harrison’s tone was clearly impatient. "I was busy. Why would I mention something so trivial...?"
"Trivial?! Our son got into a car accident and is still unconscious!" Evelyn Irving broke down, cutting her husband off. "Busy, busy, busy! Is anything you’re doing more important than our son’s life?! If he dies, what’s the point of you being so busy?"
"What did you say? Our son was in an accident?" Only then did Ronan Harrison seem to grasp the severity of the situation. "When did this happen?"
"Just now! If you had told us his car might have been tampered with, this never would have happened!"
Evelyn Irving was trembling with rage.
Lucy Shaw quickly came over to support her.
Evelyn Irving had no desire to speak to her husband any further. She hung up and handed the phone back to Sean Harrison.
Lucy Shaw glanced at Sean Harrison, wiped away a tear, and gently caressed her stomach. "I don’t know when Miles will wake up... Our baby is on the way, it can’t be without a father..."
"That won’t happen. Don’t worry, Miles will be okay."
Evelyn Irving said, turning to comfort Lucy Shaw.
Sean Harrison said, "Okay, we’re going to head back now. Call us if anything happens."
Evelyn Irving didn’t try to make them stay.
Rory Linden was walking with Sean Harrison out of the emergency department entrance when she heard him cough softly a couple of times.
"Are you okay?"
Rory Linden reached out to steady Sean Harrison.
The moment her fingers touched his wrist, the stark difference in temperature startled her.
"Your fever is back?!"
Rory Linden stopped and raised her hand to feel his forehead.
The heat from his skin told her the answer.
"It’s nothing. I’ll just take some medicine when we get back." Sean Harrison gently moved her hand away. "I’m fine."
"You’ve had a high fever for three days. No matter what, you should get checked out."
Rory Linden held his hand firmly, showing no intention of compromising.
"I’m fine."
Sean Harrison knew why his fever had returned.
He hadn’t been taking his medicine properly, and he had taken a cold shower that evening.
He knew that if he just stopped doing those things, his constitution was strong enough that he would recover quickly.
"Sean Harrison."
Rory Linden was starting to get angry.
She was looking at him, trying to figure out how to persuade him, when he relented. "All right. I’ll get checked."
Rory Linden was stunned for a moment, then couldn’t help but laugh.
"What is it?" Sean Harrison asked.
"Nothing." Rory Linden looked up at him and smiled. "I just didn’t expect you to be so agreeable. It kind of threw me for a loop."
Sean Harrison replied earnestly, "A patient should listen to their doctor."
As they were talking, Lucy Shaw rushed out of the emergency department entrance, holding her phone.
She didn’t even glance in Rory and Sean’s direction. Keeping her voice low, she spoke into the phone, "You did this to Miles Harrison, didn’t you?! Are you insane?! You said you loved me! If you love me, why would you hurt me?! Why would you hurt our child?!"
