Chapter 63: Chapter 63: "You want me to get well soon, so you can leave, right?

Rory Linden spent her entire day off taking care of Sean Harrison.

The next morning, the first thing she did after getting up was grab a forehead thermometer to take the man’s temperature.

Just as she reached the bedroom door, she saw him walking out of the closet.

He was wearing a light-colored shirt and a full dark suit, holding two ties in his hand. He asked her, "Which one?"

"This one."

Rory Linden pointed to the one with the dark green textured pattern.

Sean Harrison handed her the tie and, at the same time, took the thermometer from her hand, holding it a few centimeters from his forehead to take his temperature.

After a BEEP...

Seeing the small LCD screen was still green, Rory Linden let out a sigh of relief.

The man bent down slightly, and she looped the tie around his neck, carefully tying a perfect Windsor knot.

"There."

Rory Linden took back the thermometer.

Before they left, she carefully portioned out the fever medication he needed for the day into a pillbox and placed it in his suit pocket.

Only after everything was ready did they head out.

Sean Harrison dropped Rory Linden off at the hospital first.

When his car reached the company entrance, before it could turn into the underground parking garage, he saw a crowd gathered at the front gate.

"Stop for a moment."

Sean Harrison told the driver.

The car pulled over to the side of the road, several meters away from the company gate.

Sean Harrison was about to make a call when his special assistant, Ethan Dixon, called him first.

Once the call connected, Ethan Dixon reported the situation. "President Harrison, there’s an older gentleman at the company entrance. Our background check indicates he’s Miss Linden’s biological father, Gary Sinclair. He’s saying some things that could reflect poorly on us. Should we have him removed?"

It was the morning rush hour, and the entire building was full of employees coming to work.

If Gary Sinclair caused a scene here, rumors would surely spread like wildfire through the company.

"What did he say?"

Sean Harrison asked from the car, his voice calm and composed.

"He said..." Ethan Dixon paused before continuing. "He said you and his daughter are in a clandestine relationship that can’t see the light of day. He also said he can’t find his daughter now, so his only choice is to cause a scene here."

’Just as I thought,’ Sean Harrison mused. ’Gary Sinclair might speak recklessly to Rory Linden...’

’...but at the entrance to my company, he wouldn’t dare say whatever he pleased.’

’If he angered me, even if he didn’t end up dead, the rest of his life would be miserable.’

"Understood." Sean Harrison hung up and said to the driver, "Drive."

The car drove into the underground garage.

Sean Harrison took the elevator straight up to his office to start his day’s schedule.

「High summer in August.」

As noon approached, the sun grew more vicious. There was no shade outside the company building, and the "feels like" temperature soared past forty degrees Celsius.

Gary Sinclair truly hadn’t expected Sean Harrison to just let him stand outside shouting, completely ignoring him.

But since he had already come, he had no reason to leave.

He stayed at the entrance, making a scene from morning until sunset.

He never even caught a glimpse of Sean Harrison.

Sean Harrison left work early, departing directly from the underground garage.

At the same time, Rory Linden learned that he had gone home early. Since she had no surgeries scheduled for the afternoon, she also left work a bit earlier than usual.

It was as if they had planned it.

Her elevator had just reached the first floor. As the doors slowly slid open, she immediately saw Miles Harrison standing outside.

The man was holding a phone in one hand and a bouquet of flowers in the other. His shirt was noticeably wrinkled and his hair was a mess. It was clear he had rushed over right after work.

Their eyes met.

Just that one glance made Rory Linden’s heart ache with a faint bitterness.

’It’s not that Miles Harrison doesn’t know how to care for people,’ she thought. ’He just never cared for me.’

’Those four years of my life were a complete waste.’

’But at least I cut my losses in time.’

They had both seen each other. After their eyes met, they each walked off in different directions.

Rory Linden headed straight for the parking garage.

Just as she entered, she saw Miles Harrison’s car parked to the right of the entrance.

Although she had only been Miles Harrison’s girlfriend for four years, she had been by his side for nearly twenty. She had carefully memorized the model and license plate of every car he owned.

She had remembered them for so long that it was difficult to forget them now, even if she wanted to.

Her gaze only lingered on his car for a second or two. As she was about to look away... she noticed someone crouching beside it!

It was Andre Jennings!

Andre Jennings’s eyes were very distinctive. Even though he was wearing a mask, she recognized him easily.

Rory Linden slowed her pace, her eyes fixed on the figure, confirming that the person crouching there was indeed Andre Jennings.

But...

Andre Jennings seemed to be examining something on the car, completely oblivious to her passing by.

Rory Linden got into her car.

The driver started the engine...

"Wait a second." Rory Linden gripped the car door handle. She hesitated for a long time, then finally said, "Just drive."

’Even if someone needed to deal with this, it shouldn’t be me.’

’Not just because Miles Harrison and I have already broken up.’

’Even if I went and told him, he probably wouldn’t believe me anyway.’

Rory Linden quickly thought of the most suitable person for the job.

Sean Harrison, of course.

To ensure Miles Harrison’s safety, as soon as her car stopped in the underground garage of her building, Rory Linden rushed out and ran to the elevator, heading for home.

"Mr. Harrison."

The first thing Rory Linden did after walking in the door was call out for Sean Harrison.

When she heard no response, she checked the study, the closet, and the media room.

He was nowhere to be found. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

Finally, Rory Linden stood at the door to the master bedroom and knocked.

There was still no answer from inside.

Rory Linden cracked open the door and peeked at the bed.

Just when she was about to conclude that Sean Harrison wasn’t home...

...she heard the faint sound of running water, SPLASH SPLASH, from the master bathroom.

’Sean Harrison is taking a shower!?’

Rory Linden entered the bedroom, pressed her ear to the bathroom door, and confirmed it was the sound of a shower. She immediately knocked twice, hard.

"Mr. Harrison, you still have a fever! You can’t take a shower yet." Rory Linden knocked hard again. "Can you hear me?"

The sound of the water stopped the moment she finished speaking.

Rory Linden didn’t dare leave, so she could only wait by the door.

Soon, the bathroom door opened. Sean Harrison was wearing a terrycloth robe and holding a white bath towel in his hand.

He had probably come out in a hurry, as he was barely dry. Large drops of water trickled from the ends of his short hair, running down his neck before being absorbed by the robe’s fabric.

"You can’t shower, you’re sick." Rory Linden took the white towel from his hand. "Bend down. I’ll dry your hair for you."

Sean Harrison lowered his gaze, his dark pupils reflecting her anxious expression. He obediently bent over and lowered his head.

He felt the thick towel envelop his hair, and her hands, through the fabric, began to dry it as if she were ruffling the fur of a kitten or a puppy.

Then she wiped the water from his neck as well.

Only after confirming he was dry did Rory Linden put the towel away. She still couldn’t help but worry. "If you shower now, your fever will definitely come back tonight, and you’ll need another shot..."

Sean Harrison straightened up, looking down at the woman so close to him. He suppressed the urge to reach out and grab her wrist as he asked:

"You want me to get better quickly so you can leave, don’t you?"
