Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 61: "A Doctor Won’t Leave a Patient Behind.
"Oh, right. I’ve picked out three potential apartments for you. I’ll take you to see them this afternoon, and if you’re not satisfied, we can find another."
Sean’s tone was gentle.
Rory Linden lowered her eyes, her gaze falling on the man’s left palm.
There...
There was a clear ring of teeth marks, the skin around them even slightly bruised.
Sean had probably just woken up and hadn’t noticed it yet.
Rory looked at the bite mark, and her mind drifted back to what happened last night.
Last night, she had stayed up late to monitor his IV drip and change the bags.
At some point, he seemed to be having a nightmare. His brow was furrowed, his fists were clenched, and he moved so much that the needle came loose and started to bleed.
Rory had no choice but to remove the needle. But the moment she touched him, he reacted as if startled, suddenly grabbing her wrist.
The room was dim, so she couldn’t clearly see his expression.
She could only feel his grip on her hand growing tighter and tighter.
"Mr. Harrison, Mr. Harrison..."
Rory tried to pry his fingers off her wrist, one by one.
But the man’s strength was too great.
It was as if he wanted to crush her wrist before he would stop!
Left with no choice, Rory bit down—hard—on the fleshy part of his palm, at the base of his thumb!
The pain must have woken him, because Sean’s dark eyes opened and stared at her in the darkness. A moment later, he let go and fell back into a deep sleep.
Only then was Rory able to reinsert the IV needle into his vein.
But.
’His state last night while he was asleep was terrifying. Compared to how he is now, he was like a completely different person...’
"That’s not necessary." Rory shook her head. "You’re still sick. You don’t have to worry about me."
"The deal was that you’d stay here, and I’d help you with Gary Sinclair. But he hasn’t shown his face, so the problem isn’t solved, and now you want to move out..." Sean sighed. "It’s my fault. I overstepped and made an inappropriate request. I put you in a tough spot and forced you to make this decision."
Sean took all the blame on himself.
But Rory knew very well that she was the one who had come to him for help in the first place.
The real change happened on the night of the engagement party.
’If I had to say who was at fault, who started all of this, the answer would have to be me.’
’I was the one who got drunk and did something I shouldn’t have.’
"Gary Sinclair will find me eventually. We can deal with it then," Rory said, changing the subject. "Anyway, your fever is really high. You should go to the hospital. You’ll get better faster."
"No need. I’m almost better already."
As if to prove his point, Sean threw back the covers and started to get out of bed. That’s when he noticed...
The bite mark on the web of his left thumb.
The individual teeth marks were distinct, with clear signs of bruising under the skin. The bite had been so forceful that half his palm was already starting to look red and swollen.
Rory felt she had to explain. "Last night... I think you were having a nightmare. You grabbed my wrist and wouldn’t let go. I couldn’t wake you up, so I had no choice but to bite you."
To prove she wasn’t lying, Rory slightly pushed up her sleeve.
Faint red marks were still visible.
"I’m sorry." Sean looked at her, then remembered something. "By the way, I saw Nadia Willow in Austrell. I heard she got divorced and came back, but I didn’t go to Austrell to see her. We did run into each other at the airport. It was a coincidence."
Rory’s expression faltered for a moment.
’I thought... he would never bring this up.’ 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Sean’s dark eyes remained fixed on Rory. As soon as her expression shifted, he quickly added, "It was almost too much of a coincidence. I think she must have looked up my travel schedule and was waiting for me there. But I truly had no intention of meeting her. I didn’t tell you at the time because I wanted to give you space to think, and I was afraid that news would mess up your plans."
Rory knew she had no ability to tell if someone was lying.
All she could hear in every word Sean said was sincerity and honesty.
"Mm, okay, I understand."
Rory could clearly feel how easily the man had read her mind and understood her concerns.
Sean continued, "She knows about you. You’re not her replacement. If you’re still worried, I can arrange for you two to meet."
"No, that’s not necessary," Rory refused quickly. "Are you hungry? I have the day off today, so I’ll go to the supermarket downstairs, get some groceries, and make you something to eat. No matter what, a doctor can’t just abandon a patient."
"A doctor can’t just abandon a patient?"
Sean repeated her words.
"Of course. You get some rest. I’m going to wash my face and go get groceries. I’ll help you with your IV after we eat."
Rory stood up, tied back her hair which had come loose, and turned to leave.
She washed her face and went out, but her mind was somewhat numb.
Things were completely different from what she had imagined.
She had thought that by pretending to date Sean Harrison, Gary Sinclair would immediately show up to demand money from him, get arrested for extortion, and be locked away.
She never expected Gary Sinclair to not show up for so long.
What was more absurd was that when Sean explained the matter with Nadia Willow, she actually started to think her earlier decision had been a mistake.
Maybe...
’Maybe... maybe I really should listen to what Sherry said and stop overthinking things.’
Rory walked on, lost in her chaotic thoughts, until a figure suddenly darted in front of her.
"Starry, you really made me wait."
Gary Sinclair’s hair was a mess, he was wearing the same clothes, and a nauseating stench rolled off him in waves.
Rory froze for a second, her first instinct to run.
She took a step back, then stopped.
’I can’t run. I have to guide Gary to extort Sean, then get him sent to prison!’
’Getting Gary Sinclair sent to prison wouldn’t just help me, but also his long-suffering wife and innocent daughter.’
"Miles Harrison is engaged. You should have seen it. I told you his fiancée wasn’t me!"
Rory’s hands clenched into fists as she fought to suppress the deep-seated fear she felt for this man.
Gary Sinclair had beaten her so much as a child that her fear of him was practically instinctual.
"So what? You’re still getting chauffeured to and from work in a luxury car and living in a fancy place like this." Gary Sinclair’s chapped lips peeled back to reveal yellow teeth. "Don’t think I don’t know. You’ve hooked up with Sean Harrison now."
’It’s all happening just as Sean predicted.’
’There’s no way Gary could know this on his own.’
’He probably doesn’t even know who Sean Harrison is.’
’It looks like someone is really helping him.’
"I don’t know what you’re talking about."
Rory deliberately feigned ignorance.
"Cut the act. I overestimated you before. To think you’re just the Harrington family’s shared plaything. But..."
"What the hell are you talking about!"
Rory was stunned. She’d never imagined that’s what was going through Gary Sinclair’s disgusting mind.
"Nothing to be ashamed of. You’ve got nothing, so this is a pretty good gig for you." Gary Sinclair’s face twisted into a malevolent grin. "Sean Harrison is richer than Miles Harrison, so you must earn a lot more for sleeping with him, huh? How about you give me two million to blow, for starters."
Rory couldn’t be bothered to argue with him. She stated flatly, "I don’t have any money."
"No money?" Gary Sinclair leered at Rory like a common thug. "Then just spread your legs and let him fuck you, and..."
SLAP!
Before Gary could finish, Rory, unable to tolerate it any longer, slapped him across the face.
Rory wasn’t used to hitting people, so the slap wasn’t very hard.
But Gary was instantly enraged. "Fuck! You dare hit me, you fucking bitch!"
He reached out to grab Rory’s hair.
Rory instinctively turned to run, but a powerful arm wrapped around her, shielding her. An instant later, another fist slammed viciously into Gary Sinclair’s face.
The person protecting her then kicked Gary to the ground and, as if to vent his fury, followed up with several more vicious kicks.
