Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 33: "I Didn’t Know You Were Changing Clothes.
"Oh, right."
Rory Linden quickly opened the WeChat scanner and framed the man’s QR code.
The man’s WeChat profile popped up on her screen.
Once the notification confirmed they were friends, Rory Linden quickly transferred eight yuan to him.
She bought from this stall often, so she knew the price by heart.
"I’ve sent it over."
"Alright, got it." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Sean Harrison jerked his chin toward the car, signaling for her to get in.
Rory Linden hesitated for a moment before ducking into the car.
She had just scooted over, not yet all the way to the other side, when Sean Harrison ducked in and sat down as well.
They were briefly pressed close together, and Rory Linden quickly scooted aside again, leaving plenty of room for him.
’I’m the one bumming a ride; I can’t be crowding the owner.’
Sean Harrison seemed not to notice her reaction. He handed her a portion of grilled cold noodles. "When we passed that stall just now, you didn’t take your eyes off it."
"Oh, I’m sorry, I..."
"Rory, you don’t have to be so formal with me. Stop with the constant ’Mr. Harrison’ this and ’sir’ that. We might be spending a lot of time together, and your deferential attitude only makes me second-guess myself, wondering what I did to seem so unapproachable."
Sean Harrison’s dark eyes calmly met hers. "Or you can just tell me directly: what did I do to make you feel you have to be so polite with me?"
By now, the aroma of the grilled cold noodles filled the car.
Sean Harrison’s car was a global limited edition.
The interior was the epitome of luxury.
It made the two containers of street food in their hands seem utterly out of place.
"That’s not it..."
Rory Linden didn’t know how to answer.
The distance between her and Sean Harrison was self-evident.
A common doctor with no connections, and a powerful CEO with unimaginable wealth.
Plus, the man was one of Elysian Hospital’s few VICs.
It was only natural for her to use polite language and call him "Mr. Harrison." A ninety-degree bow wouldn’t even be out of line.
Sean Harrison didn’t press her. He raised his own container of noodles. "These are best eaten hot, right?"
"Yes."
Rory Linden readily nodded.
The car fell briefly silent.
The car glided along smoothly. As Rory Linden ate her noodles bite by bite with the small bamboo skewer, a strange feeling washed over her.
As Miles Harrison’s uncle, Sean Harrison was also born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Logically, their personalities should have had something in common.
Yet they were like two completely different people.
Miles, for instance, had hated it when she bought food from street stalls, claiming the cheap packaging alone was disgusting to look at.
Sean Harrison, however, didn’t seem to mind in the slightest.
The portion of noodles wasn’t very big.
Just as Rory Linden popped the last piece of sausage into her mouth, the man beside her held out his hand. "Give me your trash. I’ll throw it out when we stop."
Rory Linden knew she wasn’t imagining it. His words even made her wonder if he was testing her, or subtly calling her out.
She quickly held out her own hand. "Mr. Harrison, I can take it."
"When you were with Miles, did he make you do all these things?" Sean Harrison reached over and took her empty container. "From now on, when you’re with me, just do the exact opposite of whatever he demanded."
Sean Harrison stacked the two containers and held them, completely unconcerned about the sauce smudging his fingers.
Rory Linden watched him, her heart thumping with anxiety.
Her heart didn’t settle until the car was parked in the building’s underground garage and he had thrown the containers away.
As soon as they were through the door, Rory spoke up.
"I brought back some supplies to treat your wound. Let me clean it for you."
Rory Linden had made a mental note of this back at the hospital.
She’d picked up some gauze, cotton swabs, and an iodine solution from the hospital pharmacy.
The man was changing into slippers and didn’t even look up as he answered, "Alright. Get your things ready and come to my room."
Rory Linden went to her room first.
She changed into a clean set of clothes and meticulously washed her hands using the proper seven-step surgical scrub technique, then gathered the supplies and headed for Sean Harrison’s room.
Standing in the living room, she found herself in a bit of a pickle.
She had only moved in yesterday. Other than the common areas, she had only been in the study once.
’Where is Sean Harrison’s room?’
’She had no idea.’
Cradling the medical supplies, Rory Linden walked down the hallway on the other side of the apartment. She passed the study she’d been in before and kept going.
She saw a door that was ajar.
She reached out, pushed it open, and glanced inside.
Sean Harrison stood with his side to her, not far from the door. He was completely shirtless. His belt was unbuckled, and his trousers hung low on his hips, held up only by his lean physique.
Rory Linden froze for a second, her cheeks instantly flushing. "I’m so sorry! I didn’t know you were changing."
She quickly pulled the door shut.
The hallway was silent. Rory Linden could hear her own heart pounding in her ears.
’It wasn’t the first time she’d seen him shirtless, but she blushed every single time.’
’And what was worse than the blushing...’
’She was beginning to wonder if she was a classic case of being prim on the outside and wild on the inside.’
’As a doctor, it wasn’t as if she’d never seen a naked body while examining patients. And Miles used to walk around shirtless in front of her all the time.’
’But every time she saw Sean Harrison’s physique, she felt a jolt.’
’She couldn’t help but marvel at how good his body was. He was like the perfect model from her university anatomy drawing classes. His smooth skin did nothing to hide the powerful lines of his muscles; every single one from the diagrams could be easily identified on his frame.’
’The very first time she saw him like that, she’d had the urge to reach out and touch.’
Before Rory Linden could calm her racing heart, the bedroom door swung open.
Sean Harrison stood in the doorway. He had a shirt draped over his shoulders and had changed into a pair of casual lounge pants. His external obliques were almost entirely exposed.
Rory Linden quickly looked down.
The man before her spoke in a casual tone. "I didn’t expect you so soon. I was just changing."
’Was I that fast?’
’I didn’t think so.’
’She had changed, washed her hands thoroughly, and gathered the supplies before slowly making her way over.’
’And she still managed to walk in on him changing.’
Sean Harrison turned and walked into the room. "I had someone look into the Gary Sinclair situation," he said. "He owes a lot of money—five hundred and forty thousand in principal alone. When he couldn’t pay, he told his creditors he had a daughter who married into the Harrington Family. At first, the creditor just thought he was bluffing, but they did some digging and found out that you and Miles were, in fact, a couple at the time."
In other words, he’d accidentally stumbled upon the truth.
Rory Linden wasn’t the least bit surprised.
’A man like Gary Sinclair, selfish to the core, would never think about earning money when he was broke. He’d only think of ways to swindle his wife or sell his daughter.’
She followed him into the bedroom, her head bowed. "I can’t possibly pay his debt for him. But I’ll find a way to resolve this as soon as I can. I won’t keep bothering you, sir."
Rory Linden’s heart was heavy. She had to admit that, short of running away, she had no way of resolving this on her own.
"My lawyer has a solution," Sean said. "We get him to ask for money, then put him in prison for blackmail and extortion."
Sean Harrison sat on the edge of the bed. When she finally looked up at him, he continued, "But it won’t work if he’s extorting you. He needs to extort the Harrington Family. Or... extort me."
