Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 230: "Have Dinner With Me One Last Time.
Rory Linden’s mind was a mess after she left Keith Hawthorne’s office.
She kept thinking about the surgery in March.
Back then, Charlotte Rhodes’s condition had clearly not been this bad.
How could her condition have deteriorated to the point of needing a heart transplant in just a few months?
A heart transplant meant a lifetime of medication.
For a woman of Charlotte Rhodes’s age, this would be a devastating blow.
Rory Linden had made a copy of Charlotte Rhodes’s lab reports. After leaving the inpatient building, she found a shady spot to sit and study them carefully.
She had just read a few lines of the report when she felt someone sit down beside her.
Before she could react, a bottle of Coke was held out in front of her. "Want some?"
She turned her head to look, only to discover that the person sitting next to her was Evan Hollis!
A smile spread across Evan Hollis’s face. "The first time I met you, Dr. Linden, was right here. I can’t believe that after all these years, even though neither of us works here anymore, we can still run into each other."
Evan Hollis held up the Coke again. "Want some? I only have cold ones this time."
"No, thank you."
As she refused, Rory Linden’s eyes fell on the hand Evan was using to hold the Coke.
A watch was peeking out from under his sleeve.
Having spent some time with Sean Harrison, Rory Linden recognized a few luxury watch brands.
She recognized it as a Richard Mille.
A watch that costs over a million.
’Is this watch real or fake?’
’If it’s real...’
’How could Evan Hollis be so rich?’
Evan Hollis’s gaze fell on the report in Rory Linden’s hands. "Are you looking at Auntie Rhodes’s report? Director Hawthorne told me her condition is very serious and she might need a heart transplant."
His expression was one of genuine concern.
"Yes."
Rory Linden didn’t hide it.
As he moved, the watch disappeared from view.
Out of curiosity, she asked, "Dr. Hollis, where are you working now?"
"Me? I’m not working at the moment. I’m focusing on being with Auntie Rhodes. Her health is poor, after all, and I want to spend more time with her."
Evan Hollis looked completely sincere when he said this.
There wasn’t a hint of deception.
She didn’t know the history between Evan Hollis and Charlotte Rhodes, but their bond seemed to be one of genuine, mutual affection, like that of a real family.
"Then you..."
"Are you worried I’m spending Auntie Rhodes’s money?" Evan Hollis seemed to have guessed Rory Linden’s thoughts. "I have savings, and quite a bit at that. I won’t spend Auntie Rhodes’s money."
Rory Linden still had many questions.
’No matter how you look at it, Evan Hollis is just a regular anesthesiologist. He couldn’t possibly have that much in savings.’
’Why could he afford such an expensive watch?’
’Why did Nadia Willow say he was crazy?’
Rory Linden suppressed her curiosity and just said, "If she’s going to have a heart transplant, she’ll need to get on the waiting list. As you know, most patients... In any case, you should spend more time with Auntie Rhodes."
She didn’t finish her sentence.
There were too many patients who needed heart transplants.
And most of them never got a suitable donor in time.
Rory Linden said goodbye to Evan Hollis and got up, heading toward the parking lot.
She had just reached her car when she saw a familiar figure.
"President Harrison, don’t you have work to do?"
Rory Linden knew Sean Harrison wasn’t idle.
Yet she was always running into him.
Sean Harrison waited for her to walk over before saying, "I came to discuss something with you."
"To schedule our dinner for next week? Didn’t we already agree to go to a banquet?"
After the past few weeks, Rory Linden had gotten used to it.
Every week, they would schedule their dinner for the following week. Week after week, for three whole years.
"No." Sean Harrison denied it first, then immediately said, "Henry Lancaster’s wedding is in half a month. I want you to accompany me."
Rory Linden really felt the man was pushing his luck.
She was still thinking of how to refuse...
"You don’t have to go to the banquet next week. After you attend this wedding with me, our dinner agreement will be over. You won’t have to have dinner with me every week anymore."
"Really?!"
The two of them were separated by a car, and Rory Linden could hardly believe what she was hearing.
She immediately pressed, "Then what about the foundation..."
Sean Harrison said, "Don’t worry. I gave you my word, and I’ll keep it."
Hearing him say that, Rory Linden didn’t dare to let her guard down in the slightest.
She was afraid he was setting another trap for her, that he would make some unreasonable demand.
She asked cautiously, "So... are there any other conditions? You’re not going to ask me to attend as your wife or something, are you?"
Sean Harrison was taken aback for a moment by her words.
He had to admit, she was smarter than him.
’He hadn’t even considered such a "clever" angle.’
It was already after five in the afternoon, and the sun was no longer as harsh.
Sean Harrison quietly watched the woman a few meters away, standing in the brilliant sunlight, beautiful and dazzling.
He asked her, "If that were the condition, would you be willing?"
Rory Linden answered calmly, "President Harrison, perhaps many people would be willing to marry you, but I am not. On January 11th, five years ago, I didn’t break our appointment. You did. It’s impossible for us to get married anymore."
’Once, she had wanted to marry him so badly.’
’But five years had forced her to let go of those feelings long ago.’
"Then that’s not a condition," Sean Harrison said. "My condition is that next week, I’ll accompany you to pick out a gown and suitable accessories, and then you’ll attend his wedding as my date."
Rory Linden added, "Leo Linden isn’t going."
Sean Harrison nodded. "I know."
It wouldn’t be a good thing for more people to know that Leo Linden was Sean Harrison’s son.
It would only put him in more danger.
"Then it’s a deal."
Rory Linden took a few steps forward and pulled open the driver’s side door.
She looked back at Sean Harrison behind her and confirmed one more time, "President Harrison, after I accompany you to this wedding, I won’t have to have dinner with you anymore, and you’ll still make the donation, right?"
Rory Linden felt this was all too easy.
It felt a little unreal.
A corner of Sean Harrison’s mouth curved up. "Yes, this is the last time. After this, as long as you don’t want to, you’ll never have to have dinner with me again."
"Alright then. This is the last time."
’I really don’t want to have dinner with him.’
There were many reasons.
Besides her inability to forgive him, she also wanted him to move on, meet someone new, and start a new life.
-
Just as Rory Linden had expected.
The place to choose the gown was Rachel Lancaster’s studio.
Considering the gown would need alterations, the two of them scheduled the fitting for Tuesday.
When Rory Linden got off work and came out of the inpatient building, Sean Harrison was already waiting at the entrance.
Usually, Rory Linden got off work quite late.
But because she had worked the night shift yesterday, she was getting off unusually early today.
She had only meant to peek outside, thinking that if he wasn’t there, she would go rest in her car for a bit...
She never expected that even though she was an hour early, Sean Harrison was still standing there under the tree at the entrance to the inpatient building.
Rory Linden didn’t step out of the inpatient building.
She watched him through the glass.
People were coming and going all around.
He just stood there, not looking at his phone or glancing around, his gaze lowered slightly toward the ground.
’Like a statue, forever waiting...’
