Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 220: "Why Are Leo Linden and His Dad’s Last Names Different?
The kidnapper glanced at the man outside, then asked Rory Linden, "You’re not lying to us, are you?"
"How could I lie about something like this? I really am his wife."
Rory Linden stressed again.
She found it almost funny. In the past, she couldn’t have been more desperate to sever all ties with Sean Harrison.
But now, she was terrified the kidnappers wouldn’t believe her relationship with the man.
Sean Harrison stood alone at the door and said to the kidnappers, "You can rest assured. As long as my wife and my son are unharmed, you can take the money and go. I can even arrange for a car and an escort for you. But..."
His tone suddenly shifted.
"I’m giving you all this money to buy my wife and son’s safety. If they have a single scratch on them when they come out, even just one bruise, I might change my mind at any moment."
The kidnapper at the door immediately said, "Agreed! We agree!"
Sean Harrison nodded. "Good. My people are getting the money. They’ll be here within the hour."
Before coming over, the man had already prepared his bargaining chips.
These kidnappers just wanted money.
That greatly increased his odds of success.
The successful negotiation changed the atmosphere in the entire space.
One of the kidnappers asked first, "Whose dad is the guy outside?"
Leo Linden was in the corner.
After everything that had just happened, even an adult would be on the verge of a breakdown, let alone a child.
He hesitated for a long time before timidly raising his hand.
The kidnapper glanced at Leo Linden’s face and couldn’t help but curse, "Damn it, you really hit the jackpot."
At the thought of getting millions so soon, the three kidnappers could barely contain their excitement. Two of them huddled together and started discussing how to spend the money.
Rory Linden sat in the corner with the injured little girl, not daring to speak.
Leo Linden kept his eyes fixed in Rory Linden’s direction.
Being in the same space as his mother made him feel much safer.
After finishing their discussion, the three kidnappers paced around, waiting for the money.
Sean Harrison just stood outside.
One of the kidnappers, the one covered in tattoos, ran over to Rory Linden and squatted in front of her.
He toyed with a butterfly knife in his hand and asked her, "Hey, pretty lady, do you have any idea how much money your husband has?"
"...I don’t know." Rory Linden lowered her gaze. "He’s never told me about things like that."
The kidnapper looked down at her hands. "How come you’re not wearing a ring? Like, a big diamond one?"
Perhaps because Sean Harrison had promised they could leave with the money, the kidnappers had relaxed considerably.
Even so, the police didn’t dare to rush in.
"..." Rory Linden’s fingers curled slightly as she explained, "I’m a doctor. I can’t wear things like that during surgery."
The kidnapper scoffed. "With a husband that rich, why even have a job?"
Another kidnapper saw them chatting and yelled, "What are you talking about? Get a move on and check our surroundings! If the cops get in, we won’t get the money and we’ll lose our lives here!"
An unknown amount of time passed.
Some of the other children even started to doze off.
Finally, a police officer outside announced, "The money is here!"
All three kidnappers crowded around the door.
They then demanded the police get them a car and put the money inside.
Afterward, the three of them drove away.
Once the car was gone, all the parents flooded in.
Rory Linden had already pulled Leo Linden into her arms, comforting him nonstop.
Sean Harrison came in with the crowd, walked over to the mother and son, and squatted down. He smiled at Leo Linden and said, "Don’t be afraid. It’s all over. You’re safe now."
Leo Linden glanced at Rory Linden first, hesitated for a moment, and then just said politely, "Thank you."
Sean Harrison’s gaze tightened slightly.
He wasn’t surprised.
Leo Linden was four years old, and this was the first time he, as a father, had ever had a proper conversation with him.
It wasn’t strange for the child to have this attitude toward him.
"Thank you." Rory Linden looked at the man as he stood up, her first concern being, "That money..."
"You don’t need to worry about that." Sean Harrison looked down at Leo Linden. "Let’s go. We’ll take Leo to the hospital for a check-up together."
"Okay."
Rory Linden didn’t refuse.
Although Leo Linden didn’t seem to be hurt in any way, it was still necessary to get him checked out at the hospital.
Paramedics outside took the injured little girl, and the rest of the children followed one by one.
Reassured by their parents, the children’s moods gradually stabilized.
As Rory Linden and Sean Harrison were walking with Leo Linden to the kindergarten’s main gate...
One of the children was the first to speak up. "Leo Linden, your dad was so cool just now!"
Once one child spoke, the others immediately chimed in.
"Yeah, your dad is so awesome! He has so much money."
"Leo Linden’s mom was really brave too, coming in to help Nannan!"
"Leo Linden’s dad is like a hero!"
"Of course he is! My dad said Leo Linden’s dad is super famous!"
"You’re so lucky, Leo Linden, to have such an amazing mom and dad!"
The children all ran over to surround Leo Linden and thank him.
Leo Linden was just a little boy; being suddenly surrounded by everyone praising his parents left him a little bewildered.
Everyone was thanking him.
Rory Linden stood where she was, unsure of what to say.
Until one child asked, "Is Uncle Linden a celebrity?"
The children subconsciously assumed that children take their father’s surname.
Out of politeness, someone started calling Sean Harrison "Uncle Linden."
Once one person called him that, the other children followed suit, also calling him "Uncle Linden."
Finally, one of the fathers couldn’t take it anymore and corrected them, "Leo Linden’s dad’s last name is Harrison, not Linden. Stop calling him Uncle Linden."
A child immediately asked, "Why do Leo Linden and his dad have different last names?"
The lively scene fell silent for a moment.
The parents nearby all looked over.
Sean Harrison was a relatively famous entrepreneur in Celestria, and rumors that he was unmarried had long circulated online.
The man shrugged slightly and responded naturally, "My wife was the one who gave birth to him, and my wife was the one who went through all the hardship. Is there a problem with my child taking her last name?"
