Chapter 216: Chapter 216: "It’s always been a pity that I didn’t kill you last time.

Sean Harrison had driven himself here.

Now someone needed to drive the car back.

Even with other medical staff present, Rory Linden didn’t feel comfortable letting Evan Hollis accompany the patient.

After weighing her options, Rory decided to go in the ambulance herself, leaving Sean Harrison and Evan Hollis to drive to the hospital.

The ambulance drove off.

Sean Harrison walked toward the driver’s side, while Evan Hollis got into the passenger seat.

As he fastened his seatbelt, Evan Hollis said, "I thought after what happened last time, you’d never drive again."

The car was silent for a moment.

Sean Harrison inserted the key into the ignition, his hand gripping the steering wheel. "It’s always been a shame I didn’t kill you last time."

His voice was calm and detached.

He spoke of taking a life as if it were a trivial matter.

Then, the car started. After leaving the residential complex, it quickly caught up with the ambulance.

No one spoke for the entire drive.

Only the continuous sound of the ambulance siren could be heard from outside.

The car followed the ambulance all the way to the entrance of Elysian Hospital’s emergency center.

Sean Harrison opened his car door, and the wail of the ambulance siren flooded the space.

Amid the noise, he faintly heard Evan Hollis say something... it sounded like...

"You’re pretty hard to kill yourself, actually."

By the time Sean Harrison looked over, Evan Hollis had already rushed to Charlotte Rhodes’s side.

When Rory Linden saw Evan Hollis approach, she immediately put out a hand to stop him. "Auntie Rhodes is in terrible condition. What medicine did you give her?"

"I really didn’t." Evan Hollis’s expression was one of innocence. "We’re at the hospital now. If I had really given her some kind of drug, a blood test would reveal it. I wouldn’t be able to hide it."

Rory Linden watched the doctors wheel Charlotte Rhodes into the emergency room, then shot Evan Hollis a look before following them inside.

Evan Hollis was right.

If a drug had been administered recently, it could be detected with modern technology.

The hospital ran some basic tests on Charlotte Rhodes and then admitted her.

Once the admission paperwork was finished, Evan Hollis spoke up. "You two can go take care of your business. I’m free, so I can stay with her. Besides, I’m familiar with this place."

Sean Harrison gave him a cold look. "I’m the only Elysian member here. Who the hell do you think you are?"

Evan Hollis fell silent.

After seeing Charlotte Rhodes’s condition for herself, Rory Linden also grew somewhat distrustful of Evan Hollis.

She suggested to Sean Harrison, "The hospital has caregivers. I’ll go see if I can find a familiar one with a good reputation and hire them to stay with Auntie Rhodes."

"Okay, I’ll go with you."

Sean Harrison said.

Elysian Hospital, being a private institution, employed a team of specially trained caregivers. When not assigned to a patient, they worked in the hospital’s convalescence department caring for the elderly, so they were readily available.

The two of them went together and selected two female caregivers in their forties from the available staff.

They would look after Charlotte Rhodes in two shifts.

Rory Linden and Sean Harrison returned to the sixth floor to wait for the caregivers to arrive.

Just as they got on the elevator, Rory Linden received a call from their nanny, Auntie Wagner. She told her that Ryan Sterling wanted to take Leo skateboarding at the plaza.

"Leo is here at home. Ryan said that if you don’t approve, he won’t come over, to avoid disappointing Leo."

Auntie Wagner relayed Ryan Sterling’s message to Rory Linden.

"Let them go. I have something to take care of out here and might be back late. Just make sure they’re home around nine. Leo needs to sleep."

Rory Linden instructed carefully.

Sean Harrison stood beside her, listening.

He didn’t speak until Rory Linden had hung up the phone. "Rory Linden, my work schedule isn’t as busy now. I can..."

"President Harrison," Rory Linden cut him off. "Don’t bring this up again. It’s impossible."

The elevator doors in front of them slowly slid open.

Keith Hawthorne was standing outside.

They hadn’t seen each other in a long time.

Keith Hawthorne, wearing scrubs under his white coat, greeted her. "Dr. Linden, long time no see."

"Director Hawthorne!" Rory Linden was happy to see him. "Are you heading down?"

Keith Hawthorne smiled. "No, I heard you were here, so I came to find you after my surgery."

After speaking, he greeted Sean Harrison, who was standing behind her. "President Harrison, long time no see." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Sean Harrison nodded in acknowledgment.

"Director Hawthorne, I need to tell you about Charlotte Rhodes’s condition."

Rory Linden didn’t have time for pleasantries. She immediately briefed Keith Hawthorne on Charlotte Rhodes’s previous surgery and her medical visit earlier in the day.

Keith Hawthorne’s expression turned serious. "Let’s have the patient stay here for a couple of days. We’ll run some blood tests and rule things out one by one."

Rory Linden thought for a moment, then couldn’t help but say, "I think Evan Hollis is very suspicious, but I don’t have any evidence."

"Dr. Hollis?" Keith Hawthorne commented. "He seems like a nice guy. I doubt he’d do something like that."

Rory Linden wasn’t surprised that Keith Hawthorne thought so.

After all, during his time at Elysian, Evan Hollis had always seemed easygoing and agreeable.

Sometimes, she felt the man was a pushover.

Rory Linden then asked Keith Hawthorne, "By the way, when did Evan Hollis resign? And why?"

"Him? He resigned not long after you did," Keith Hawthorne said, recalling. "He seemed to be in a real hurry."

Sean Harrison, who was standing to the side, explained, "After you left, I sold the Harrison Group and the old Harrington Family estate. My mother moved into her current villa, and it wasn’t long before Evan Hollis started visiting frequently."

Rory Linden looked at Sean Harrison.

"Last year, it seems they had a falling out. Evan Hollis didn’t visit for a long time. After her surgery this year, their relationship seems to have been mended."

Everything Sean Harrison said was what the housekeeper had told him.

As for the reason why, he didn’t know, nor did he want to.

Rory Linden didn’t want to get bogged down in complicated matters either. "Director Hawthorne, I was the one who performed Charlotte Rhodes’s previous surgery. If there’s anything I can do to help, please let me know."

"Will do," Keith Hawthorne agreed. "Come on, let’s go check on the patient together."

When the three of them entered the hospital room, Evan Hollis was already inside.

Keith Hawthorne gave a few instructions and then left.

Half an hour later, after one of the caregivers arrived, Rory Linden and Sean Harrison finally left.

Back in the car, Rory Linden glanced at her watch. "President Harrison, it’s probably too late to get dinner, isn’t it?"

"Mm," Sean Harrison agreed. "I’ll take you home."

Rory Linden thought of Auntie Wagner’s call. "Could you drop me off at the plaza in front of The Azure Peak Hotel? Leo is playing there. I’ll go find him."
