Chapter 215: Chapter 215: "I will make you spend a lifetime in prison!

Rory Linden was stunned for a moment before her temper flared. "I’m here to check on Auntie Rhodes’s condition. Shouldn’t you be telling me how she is right now? What does anything else have to do with you?"

Every time Evan Hollis had mentioned Charlotte Rhodes before, his tone was full of praise for the elderly woman.

He’d said she was a good mother and a good person.

That she had brought him a lot of warmth.

’Now that the elderly woman’s condition is so poor, he’s still in the mood to care about my relationship with Sean Harrison?’

Evan Hollis hadn’t expected Rory Linden to get angry so suddenly and immediately apologized.

But he still blocked the stairs. "Auntie Rhodes is resting."

"Even if she’s resting, I can still go up and check her condition, can’t I?"

Rory Linden found it increasingly strange.

She could clearly sense that Evan Hollis was trying to stop them from going upstairs.

Evan Hollis’s fingers gripped the wooden handrail tightly.

Before the two could speak again, Sean Harrison stepped forward, shoved Evan Hollis aside, and snarled, "Get lost!"

Evan Hollis’s attention was on Rory Linden, so he didn’t notice Sean walking over and was caught completely off guard.

He stumbled backward.

Sean Harrison didn’t spare him a single glance as he headed straight upstairs.

He had long since stopped being a patient man.

These days, he had no interest in reasoning with people, and of course, he had the power to back it up.

Rory Linden still bent over to help Evan Hollis, who had stumbled, before getting up to follow Sean Harrison upstairs.

The housekeeper also followed behind.

When she got upstairs, she saw Sean Harrison standing outside a bedroom. He tried the doorknob a couple of times, and when he found it locked, he knocked impatiently.

"Is it locked?"

Rory Linden walked over and asked quietly.

Sean Harrison nodded.

Rory Linden turned to the housekeeper who had just arrived upstairs. "Where’s the key to this room? Does Auntie Rhodes normally lock her door when she sleeps?"

The housekeeper stepped forward and tried pushing the door. Finding it shut, she explained, "This door is normally never locked..."

Before the housekeeper could finish, Sean Harrison lifted his foot and kicked the door!

The door was solid and didn’t give way on the first kick.

He immediately followed up with a second kick.

With the second kick, the entire door panel came crashing down.

Rory Linden was the first one into the room.

Charlotte Rhodes was lying on the bed, completely still.

She hadn’t even woken up at the sound of them breaking down the door.

"Auntie Rhodes, Auntie Rhodes."

Rory Linden called out to her while lifting her eyelids to check her state.

Evan Hollis finally came upstairs. "Dr. Linden, I told you Auntie Rhodes was resting."

"Evan Hollis!" Rory Linden had reached her limit. "What in God’s name did you give her! I performed her surgery three months ago. I know exactly what her condition should be. Even if her recovery wasn’t going well, she wouldn’t be like this!"

Sean Harrison was already on the side, dialing 911.

Just then, Charlotte Rhodes seemed to stir. Her hand rose slightly, her fingers gently prodding Rory Linden’s arm.

She seemed to want to say something.

"Auntie Rhodes, how are you feeling now?" Rory Linden quickly knelt down. "We’ve called 911, and we’re going to take you to the hospital for a check-up."

"No need..."

Charlotte Rhodes murmured.

It wasn’t even seven o’clock at night.

’Even if she goes to bed early, she wouldn’t be in this state after being woken up so abruptly.’

Evan Hollis first righted the broken door, inspecting the damage before saying, "I treat Auntie Rhodes very well. I would never do anything to harm her. If you don’t believe me, ask her."

He was referring to the housekeeper.

All eyes turned to the housekeeper.

The housekeeper glanced at Evan Hollis, then nodded and said, "Mr. Hollis is indeed very good to her. He takes her for a walk every day and even helps wash her feet before bed..."

Rory Linden was a little surprised.

’I figured Evan Hollis must treat Charlotte Rhodes well for her to be so considerate of him.’

’But I never thought he would go this far.’

But Rory Linden wasn’t swayed by his words. "Then why is she like this?! In her current state, she must have taken some kind of medication."

"I... I really didn’t." Evan Hollis had an innocent look on his face. "Besides, I have absolutely no reason to do that."

A suspicion flashed through Rory Linden’s mind.

Before she could even say it, Evan Hollis spoke first. "Are you suspecting I’m doing this for the inheritance? I wouldn’t. You both know I grew up in an orphanage, and Auntie Rhodes was the only one who was good to me. What I want is very simple, I just want to spend more time with her. I hope she lives a long and healthy life."

When Evan Hollis said these words, his expression and tone were incredibly sincere.

Rory Linden was at a loss for words.

She turned back to check on the elderly woman.

Sean Harrison stood to the side, his dark eyes fixed on Evan Hollis. "I don’t care what your motives are. If my mother is healthy, you can stay here. But if something happens to my mother because of you..."

"I will make sure you spend the rest of your life in prison!"

His voice was cold and resonant, each word carrying weight.

But Evan Hollis was completely unfazed. "What right do you have to threaten me? If it weren’t for an unfit son like you, she wouldn’t need my company so much."

Sean Harrison said, "Our family matters have nothing to do with an outsider like you."

Evan Hollis finally lost control. "Nothing to do with me? The reason she came to the orphanage in the first place was because of you..."

"Shut up! Both of you shut up!"

Rory Linden cut Evan Hollis off.

’Even though we’re separated, and even though I might not know everything about Sean Harrison’s past...’

’I don’t want to see other people use it to hurt him.’

Rory Linden turned to face the two men. "I need to examine her. Both of you, wait outside. One of you go downstairs and wait for the ambulance, and the other can wait in the hall."

’Maybe it’s because I’m a mother now.’

’I’ve gotten really good at this tone.’

’And it seems to be particularly effective.’

The two grown men fell silent instantly.

Sean Harrison was the most cooperative, turning to leave first.

Seeing this, Evan Hollis also followed him out.

Rory Linden didn’t fully believe what Evan Hollis had said.

She still wanted to examine the elderly woman.

She wanted to check for signs of physical abuse, for needle marks on her arms or in her veins—anything to suggest she’d been injected with some kind of drug.

’Even though Evan Hollis is only an anesthesiologist, he’s still a medical school graduate. To be personally invited back to the country by the director of Elysian Hospital, his skills and abilities must be top-notch.’

Right now, Charlotte Rhodes looked utterly exhausted, not merely sleepy.

It was more like she had taken sleeping pills and couldn’t regain full consciousness.

Since it was summer, Charlotte Rhodes was dressed in light clothing.

Rory Linden first pushed up the elderly woman’s sleeve, checking all the way from the back of her hand to her upper arm. She saw no needle marks.

Charlotte Rhodes opened her mouth. "I’m fine..."

The elderly woman’s voice was extremely faint.

"Auntie Rhodes, given your current state, do you really believe that yourself?"

Even without a stethoscope, Rory Linden could feel how faint the woman’s heartbeat was.

Rory Linden said frankly, "Auntie Rhodes, perhaps you think I’m being nosy, but I was your surgeon. Now that your health has declined so rapidly, people are going to assume there was a problem with my operation."

"It’s not you..."

Charlotte Rhodes waved her hand gently.

"I know it wasn’t me, and I know my surgery was a success. But if something really happens to you, other people won’t believe that, and they might even use this to smear my name."

Rory Linden said earnestly, "Even if it’s just for my own sake, I’m determined to find out why your health has taken such a turn."

The wail of an ambulance siren grew louder as it approached.

Rory Linden quickly pulled down the elderly woman’s sleeve and straightened her clothing.

The paramedics soon moved the elderly woman to the ambulance.

Considering Charlotte Rhodes’s previous reluctance to be hospitalized, Rory Linden said, "Let’s go to Sanctum Hospital or Elysian Hospital."

Sean Harrison was silent for a moment before making his decision. "We’re going to Elysian Hospital."
