Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 210: He Thought They Would Never See Each Other Again
Rory Linden saw the long line of cars forming behind her. All she wanted was to resolve the matter quickly and move her car so she wouldn’t hold up traffic.
The incessant BEEP-BEEPING from the cars behind her only frayed her nerves more.
Seeing things weren’t going his way, the at-fault driver waved his hand dismissively. "Oh, forget it, forget it. Just my luck to run into a driver like you. I’ll give you some cash. Let’s not call the police."
Without missing a beat, Rory Linden said, "A thousand."
"A thousand?! You want a thousand for that tiny scratch on your car?!"
The at-fault driver was so furious he looked ready to jump out of his skin.
He had been planning to hand over three or five hundred and call it a day.
He never expected Rory Linden to demand a thousand right off the bat.
"I just bought this car a month ago and got the plates a few days ago. I’m obviously going to get it repaired at the dealership’s service center. Is a thousand a problem?"
Rory Linden put her phone away and glanced at the long line of cars. "Forget it. Let’s just move our cars and wait for the police."
The moment she finished speaking, the other driver who had been standing by and speaking up for her chimed in, "Once the police get here, you’ll end up paying that much anyway for a car in this price range. Or you could go through insurance."
Every driver knew that filing an insurance claim wasn’t worth it for something this minor.
The line of cars behind them grew longer and longer, and a cacophony of honks filled the air.
A few other drivers got out of their cars, cursing as they told the at-fault driver to just pay up and move his damn car.
The at-fault driver counted out eight hundred-yuan bills from his wallet. "Eight hundred. Take it or we’re waiting for the cops!"
Too lazy to argue further, Rory Linden took the eight hundred. "Fine. Now go."
After taking the money, she turned to thank the driver who had spoken up for her.
But when she saw his face, she froze.
Their eyes met. The man smiled and waved. "Move your car first. We can talk in a bit."
Rory Linden truly never expected to run into Miles Harrison here.
He had left five years ago.
She had thought that might be the last time they ever saw each other.
She never imagined that five years later, they would meet again like this.
Rory Linden moved her car first.
She pulled over to the side of the road and stopped.
Miles Harrison parked his car right behind hers.
When Rory Linden got out, he got out as well.
"Long time no see," Rory Linden said with a smile. "Thanks for your help just now. If you hadn’t stepped in, this probably wouldn’t have been resolved so smoothly."
"I was actually in a hurry myself. I was about to get out and tell you to speed things up when I realized it was you."
Seeing Rory Linden again, Miles Harrison felt a strange mix of emotions.
It wasn’t just the feeling of a long-awaited reunion.
It was more than that...
Just now, watching her stand her ground against the other driver, he realized how different she was from the person he remembered.
There was a new kind of vitality to her, a captivating charm.
Rory Linden glanced at the front of her car. "I need to take this to the dealership, so I can’t chat right now."
She gave him a little wave, got in her car, and headed for the nearest dealership.
Normally, there was no need to go to the dealership for such a minor ding.
But the car was brand new, and she didn’t have a regular mechanic yet. The dealership might be more expensive, but it was the safest bet.
Rory Linden drove off.
As she was about to pull into the dealership, she noticed Miles Harrison’s car was still behind her.
She brought the car in, explained the situation, and handed the keys to a service employee.
Then she walked back out and looked at Miles Harrison. "Didn’t you have something to do? Why are you following me?"
"I postponed it," Miles Harrison said. "I was worried you’d have to leave your car here for repairs and would need a ride home."
He had only just returned to the country.
And she was the person he wanted to see most.
But after asking his mother, he’d learned that she had gone abroad after breaking up with Sean Harrison.
They hadn’t been in contact for years.
He thought...
...they would never see each other again.
He never thought they’d meet again after just a few days.
’Does this mean we’re still fated to be together?’
"No need, I can just get a ride-share." Rory Linden held up her phone. "I’ve already requested one. It’ll be here soon."
If this were the younger him, he wouldn’t have understood her refusal and would have insisted on taking her home.
But he wouldn’t do that now.
He had long since realized that Rory Linden was a woman who had a mind of her own.
Miles Harrison slid one hand into his pocket. "Well, then let me keep you company while you wait. You can’t refuse such a small request, can you?"
"Alright." Rory Linden glanced at her phone. "I guess we can talk for about ten minutes."
Since it was rush hour, a lot of people were requesting rides, and there was a long queue of passengers ahead of her.
It would be a while before it was her turn.
Not wanting him to ask about her and Sean Harrison, Rory Linden took the initiative. "It’s been so long. Tell me, where have you been? What have you been up to?"
Standing beside her, Miles Harrison slowly recounted his experiences over the past few years.
He had been a rich young master his whole life, never wanting for anything material.
There had always been someone to take care of his daily needs.
For someone like that, going abroad alone was naturally a bit of a struggle at first.
Later, his father pulled some strings to help him meet some people, and he started a shipping business.
After all these years, he had finally managed to build up some savings. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"You don’t realize how hard it is to run your own business until you do it. No wonder my uncle looked down on me back then." Miles Harrison gave a wry smile, then continued, "By the way, my mom told me you and my uncle broke up."
"Yeah."
Rory Linden didn’t want to elaborate.
"I just got back recently. The first thing I did was ask my mom about you. She said you’d gone abroad, so I thought I’d never see you again."
At this, Miles Harrison couldn’t help but add, "I never thought I’d run into you just a few days later."
"I just got back recently, too."
"Have you seen my uncle since you got back?"
Miles Harrison asked, seizing the opportunity.
Rory Linden didn’t want to mention that she and Sean Harrison had a child together, so she simply asked, "Why?"
"Well, you know, after my uncle sold the Harrison Group, he also sold the old Harrington family estate. We’ve all gone our separate ways."
Miles Harrison didn’t hide it from Rory Linden. "A few days ago, my mom and I went to see my grandmother. There was a man about my age at her house. At first, I thought he was her boyfriend, but my mom said he was an orphan my grandmother helped back when she was abroad."
Rory Linden was slightly taken aback. "Evan Hollis?"
’The last time I saw Evan Hollis at Sanctum Hospital, he and Charlotte Rhodes didn’t seem to be on good terms.’
’How did that change?’
"Yes, that’s his name," Miles Harrison said. "My grandmother seems to be in poor health, so it’s good that he’s there to take care of her."
Rory Linden was even more surprised. "Poor health? Didn’t Auntie Rhodes just have surgery? Isn’t she recovering well?"
She had just performed the surgery on Charlotte Rhodes in March.
The recovery period should be over by now. There shouldn’t be any issues. How could she be in poor health?
’Did something go wrong during her recovery?’
"That... I’m not sure."
Miles Harrison truly didn’t know what was going on.
Rory Linden wanted to ask more, but the ride-share she’d ordered had arrived.
Miles Harrison quickly pulled out his phone. "Let’s exchange contact info. Since we’re both back in the country now, we can stay in touch."
The thing was...
...Rory Linden didn’t want to stay in regular contact with Miles Harrison.
She wanted to make a clean break from the past.
That past didn’t just include Sean Harrison, but also Miles Harrison and everything else that came with it.
From now on, the focus of her life would be Leo.
Rory Linden opened the door of the ride-share and looked at him. "Maybe next time. If we happen to run into each other again, I’ll give you my number then."
