Chapter 202: Chapter 202: "Do You Want to Live with Dad?

Watching Ryan Sterling get into the passenger seat, Noah Sterling gave a direct order. "Cancel the lessons. I don’t care how you met them. Don’t contact them again."

"Uncle, my mom let you keep me in line back in high school. But I’m in grad school now. It’s not really your place to boss me around anymore, is it?"

Ryan Sterling was annoyed.

It wasn’t that he disliked Noah Sterling.

On the contrary, he mostly admired Noah Sterling.

Their family wasn’t particularly wealthy or distinguished. At best, they were middle-class.

Ryan’s maternal grandparents had passed away young, leaving behind a small company.

Ryan’s mother had given up her passion for painting to take over the company, all so her younger brother could go to law school.

The verdicts in a few of Noah Sterling’s early cases shocked the nation. After making a name for himself, he earned a substantial amount of money.

Even though Ryan’s mother never asked for anything, Noah had always taken great care of Ryan.

Once Noah started making money, it was only natural that he would look after his sister and nephew.

"I’m warning you. I can cover for you no matter what other trouble you get into, but this is different. If you dare to even think about Rory Linden that way, not even I can save you."

Noah Sterling tried to keep his voice down, but he couldn’t suppress his emotions.

"Uncle, do you think Rory Linden is some kind of gold digger? I don’t think she is. She has a good job..."

"If she were a gold digger, you never would have even met her!"

Noah Sterling couldn’t help but cut Ryan off.

Just recently, he had been more or less forced to learn about the history between Sean Harrison and Rory Linden.

In a way, he and Rory Linden were the same kind of people.

They had both clawed their way up from the bottom with no one to rely on but themselves.

They had just chosen different paths.

Rory had been on a normal path—school, then work—and her future should have been smooth sailing.

The unfortunate part was, she met two men: Miles Harrison and Sean Harrison.

Miles Harrison went abroad a few years ago, though it seemed he had recently returned.

Sean Harrison had remained in the country, and his career had become wildly successful.

When Noah first dealt with Sean Harrison, he got the sense that the man had an excellent grasp of human nature. Combined with his calm personality, he was clearly destined for great things.

Later, however, he discovered that Sean Harrison had another, hidden side to his personality.

Especially in the years right after Rory Linden left, he did some completely outrageous things and paid a hefty price for them.

Rory Linden had always been important to Sean Harrison.

Now that he knew the child was his, there was no way he would ever let go.

"What do you mean?" Ryan Sterling didn’t understand. "Did the father of her child offer her a fortune to be his kept woman, and she turned him down?" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"Hah." Noah Sterling looked at his naive nephew. "Do you have any idea who the father of Rory Linden’s child is?"

"No," Ryan retorted. "I’m just teaching Leo how to skateboard. How would I know any of that!"

"You seem to know plenty, since you already know she’s a single mother," Noah said pointedly. "I’ll tell you this much: the kid’s father is an extremely powerful man. Use your imagination. Take a guess."

"How am I supposed to guess?"

Despite saying that, Ryan still threw out a few names.

A real estate tycoon, a new-money tech mogul.

Noah Sterling shot them all down.

Ryan was getting anxious. "I hardly know anyone! Most of the people I’ve met are ones you’ve introduced me to."

"You’ve never met him, true, but you definitely know who he is," Noah prompted. "And don’t guess too far afield. His company headquarters are right here in Veridia."

Ryan threw out a few more random names.

When those were also rejected, he gave up.

"I’m done guessing. I don’t care who it is. What does it have to do with me anyway?"

"Sean Harrison."

Noah announced.

The car fell silent for several seconds. Ryan stared at his uncle in disbelief. "Sean Harrison? But isn’t he unmarried?"

Sean Harrison was one of the most famous and eligible bachelors in the entire country.

Ryan had only heard he was unmarried from his classmates.

Some of the girls in his class were determined to marry the man. They’d scoured all his interviews and, upon finding out which summit he was attending, had even signed up as volunteers just for a chance to "accidentally" run into him.

It was only after they got there that they realized they couldn’t even get in!

"To be precise, their marriage never happened. His and Rory Linden’s."

Noah Sterling corrected.

"If the marriage didn’t happen, then he’s not married. Simple as that. Besides, I’m just teaching Leo how to skateboard. I don’t have any other ideas."

Ryan saw nothing wrong with what he was doing.

Noah was at his wit’s end with his nephew. "That kid, Leo, is Sean Harrison’s son! Skateboarding is dangerous. If he breaks an arm or cracks his head open while you’re teaching him, you can just get ready to go to jail!"

He had spent the last week personally witnessing how Sean Harrison had acted like a complete fool ever since he found out Leo Linden was his son.

If Leo got so much as a scratch, Noah didn’t dare to imagine the consequences.

"If anything happens, I’ll take full responsibility. I definitely won’t trouble you with it." Fearing his uncle didn’t believe him, Ryan added, "I can even sign a written guarantee, how about that?"

Noah couldn’t be bothered to argue anymore. He just started the car.

Rory Linden drove home. She had planned on carrying Leo upstairs.

"Mama, I’m awake." Leo Linden rubbed his eyes hard, forcing them open. "I can walk by myself."

Back home, Leo took a bath on his little stool. He then dried himself off, put on his pajamas, and walked out of the bathroom.

Rory found the picture book they hadn’t finished the night before and read it to him.

By the time she finished the book, Leo still wasn’t asleep.

The little boy looked at Rory Linden with wide eyes. "Mama, will Mr. Sterling still be able to teach me how to skateboard?"

"Mr. Sterling is a student, too. If he gets busy with his schoolwork, he might not have time to teach you."

Rory didn’t know how to answer.

Noah Sterling’s earlier concerns were not without merit.

Perhaps they really should find a more professional instructor.

"Oh... If he doesn’t have time, then I’ll just stop learning."

Leo’s voice was still soft and boyish, but his tone was surprisingly resolute.

Rory gently tried to coax her son, "Mr. Sterling is very busy, but there are lots of other wonderful teachers."

The bedroom was quiet.

Leo lowered his gaze, seemingly lost in thought. Suddenly, he spoke. "Mama, are we ever going to live with Dad?"

Rory froze.

Ever since he had turned three, her son had rarely brought up the subject of his "father."

And even though she never shied away from the topic, it was as if Leo understood the situation and chose not to mention it.

Rory didn’t immediately say no. Instead, she asked her son, "Do you want to live with your dad?"

She placed the picture book on the nightstand and waited for her son’s answer.

Leo simply sat up in bed.

With only a small nightlight on in the room, the little boy’s eyes were as bright and clear as black pearls.

He looked at Rory seriously and said, "Because that lady told me that if we lived with Dad, you wouldn’t have to work so hard anymore, Mama."
