Chapter 199: Chapter 199: "Older Sister.

"Wow!"

Leo Linden’s eyes lit up when he saw the motorcycle!

The desire to ride it was written all over his face.

Rory Linden quickly said, "No way. It’s too dangerous."

Ryan Sterling also explained, "Kids under twelve can’t ride on a motorcycle. When you turn twelve, I’ll give you a ride."

He pulled a key fob from his pocket and unlocked an SUV parked nearby. "I’ll drive this to take you home."

Rory Linden looked over and instantly recognized the car emblem with the small wings.

It was an Aston Martin.

She didn’t know much about cars, but she knew it had to be expensive.

As if sensing Rory Linden’s gaze, Ryan Sterling quickly explained, "It was a birthday present from my uncle. I couldn’t afford it on my own."

"It’s fine. I have a car, too."

Rory Linden led Leo Linden to her own car.

Ryan Sterling hurried over and said, "Oh, right. Um, since we live so close, if Leo still wants to learn skateboarding with me, you can just contact me if you’re busy. I can take him myself."

"It’s okay. I’ll do my best to make time."

Rory Linden didn’t want to trouble Ryan Sterling.

First, they weren’t that close yet.

Second, Leo Linden always sat in a car seat in her car.

Ryan Sterling’s car didn’t have one, and since he also drove a motorcycle, he might drive very fast.

She was afraid something might happen to Leo Linden.

Rory Linden drove Leo Linden to kindergarten, then went to the hospital to check in for her new position.

She had just parked in the hospital’s underground garage when she noticed that Ryan Sterling had sent her several WeChat messages.

"Miss, sorry, I just realized that if you were going to the underground garage, you must have a car. I wasn’t trying to show off, please don’t get the wrong idea."

"I can’t believe we live in the same building. I’m just a student with a lot of free time. If you need anything, you can really just ask me. Don’t be a stranger."

"I really like Leo. He’s super smart and learns everything so quickly."

"If you don’t believe me, I can show you my student ID."

Rory Linden was surprised he had sent so many messages.

She was in a hurry to check in, so she just glanced at them and quickly replied with a single word: "Okay."

On her first day, Rory Linden followed the department head on his rounds in the morning, and in the afternoon, she shadowed another senior doctor in the outpatient clinic.

The cardiac surgery department at Celestria University Affiliated Hospital was ranked among the top five in northern Celestria, and they saw a huge number of patients.

In just one afternoon, Rory Linden heard conversations she had heard countless times during her internship.

An exasperated doctor asking, "Why didn’t you come in sooner? How could you let it get this bad?"

A patient simply saying, "What will happen if I don’t get treatment for this?"

And many other similar exchanges.

After the clinic closed, the doctor she was shadowing had other things to attend to.

In public hospitals, it was normal for doctors to work overtime.

Since it was Rory Linden’s first day, she was able to get off work on time.

She picked up Leo Linden from kindergarten and headed home.

After she parked, the mother and son had just gotten out of the car when...

"Um... Miss."

Ryan Sterling got out of his car and waved at them.

Rory Linden felt a bit awkward hearing that form of address. "You can call me Rory Linden, or Dr. Linden. Just don’t call me ’Miss’."

"Oh, okay." Ryan Sterling was also a little embarrassed. He handed her his student ID. "Here, take a look at this."

Rory Linden wondered what it was, but when she took it and glanced at it, she saw it was a student ID booklet.

The outside was printed with "Celestria Academy of Fine Arts."

Inside were Ryan Sterling’s department, major, and other details, with his photo next to them.

He was a full-time graduate student majoring in sculpture.

"Why are you showing me this?"

Rory Linden was completely baffled.

Ryan Sterling then explained, "I said in my message, I was worried you wouldn’t believe me, so I’d show you my student ID. And you said ’Okay.’"

Rory Linden pulled out her phone, checked WeChat again, and finally saw that line of text.

She quickly explained, "Sorry, I was in a rush and didn’t read it carefully. I wasn’t questioning you."

"It’s okay." Ryan Sterling looked at Leo Linden. "Where are you guys headed? When does Leo have time to go skateboarding with me? I’m free pretty much anytime lately."

"Now!"

Leo Linden immediately raised his hand.

Ryan Sterling looked at Rory Linden. "How about I take him...?"

"I’ll drive you both there."

Rory Linden cut Ryan Sterling off, rejecting his kind offer.

Rory Linden and Ryan Sterling were only a few years apart in age, but she couldn’t help but feel that he was a bit unreliable.

Especially after seeing the photo on his student ID.

In the photo, Ryan Sterling had a head of blue hair and an arrogant expression.

That, combined with his status as a rich heir, his art major, and his motorcycle...

...all the different aspects pointed to him being...

...what you would call a "punk."

Rory Linden went upstairs to change Leo Linden into a set of clothes that were easier to move in, then came back down with a skateboard and protective gear.

Ryan Sterling was already waiting downstairs.

Rory Linden glanced at her car, then looked at Ryan Sterling. "You’re pretty tall. If you think you’ll be uncomfortable in my car, you can drive your own."

She had probably spent too much time with Miles Harrison; she tended to have certain stereotypes about young masters.

She figured they weren’t used to sitting in small sedans where they couldn’t stretch their legs.

"Why would I? A car’s a car, what’s the difference?" Ryan Sterling said as he walked over. "If you’re tired from work, I can drive. My driving is great. I’ve never been in an accident."

"No, thanks," Rory Linden refused. "Leo will be in the back seat. I’ll only feel at ease if I’m the one driving."

Ryan Sterling didn’t insist.

The three of them arrived at the plaza in front of The Azure Peak Hotel.

They stayed for over two hours before leaving.

For the next week, Rory Linden got off work at her normal time every day.

On all but one of those days, she accompanied Leo Linden to the plaza to learn skateboarding with Ryan Sterling.

-

That Friday, Rory Linden was in the outpatient clinic all day.

After her shift at the clinic ended, she had already packed up her things and was ready to go home when a colleague called out to her.

"Dr. Linden, do you have plans in a minute? A patient just came in through the ER and needs immediate surgery, but all the attending surgeons are busy..."

"I can do it."

Rory Linden agreed immediately, without waiting for her colleague to finish. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

She first checked the patient’s condition. The surgery wouldn’t be long, and there was an operating room available.

She took out her phone. "You guys go get things prepped. I need to arrange things at home."

Rory Linden’s first call was to Chloe Chandler. She explained the situation and asked if she could help pick up Leo Linden.

Ever since Sherry Walsh had assigned her to Rory Linden, Chloe Chandler hadn’t been to the law firm in a long time.

Seeing that Rory Linden hadn’t contacted her, she had simply gone on a trip.

When Rory Linden called her, she was at a market in Apsara Old Town.

"Miss... Miss Linden, I’m sick..."

Chloe Chandler lied without a second thought.

"You’re out of town, aren’t you?" Rory Linden mercilessly exposed her lie. "I see. I’ll find someone else."

The patient was waiting for surgery; Rory Linden really didn’t have time to press the issue.

She thought about calling Sherry Walsh, but after a moment’s hesitation, she chose a more suitable person.

She made a call to Ryan Sterling through WeChat.
