Chapter 112: Chapter 112: 112

Nadia Willow looked up into the man’s dark eyes.

Rory Linden and Miles Harrison had known each other for twenty years.

She had known Sean Harrison for more than twenty years.

She knew all too well what the look on his face meant. If he didn’t want to kill her, he at least wanted to silence her forever.

But she refused.

Sean Harrison’s past behavior had once led her to believe he had some genuine feelings for her.

Marrying her ex-husband had been a gamble.

She’d done it to provoke Sean Harrison.

To see him lose his mind over her.

And the result was...

...a marriage that had been hell for years.

Why should she suffer so much, only to end up letting him be happy with the woman he loved?

"Sean, someone who truly loves you should love all of you—your good side and your ugly side. If she can only accept the fake you, then she doesn’t deserve your love."

Nadia Willow’s smile was dazzling.

She only resembled Rory Linden more when she wasn’t smiling.

Once she smiled, the difference between them was easy to spot.

Sean Harrison couldn’t be bothered to waste his breath on her. "Nadia, you helped me once, and I’ve already thanked you generously. If you’re going to be this greedy, then we have nothing more to discuss."

"Your ’gifts’ aren’t what I want. There’s only one thing I want as thanks. If you can’t give me that, then nothing else matters."

Nadia Willow kept smiling.

’She knew Sean Harrison wouldn’t do anything rash.’ 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

’For all these years, whether it was an act or genuine, he had been trying his best to be a good person.’

Sean Harrison lowered his gaze to the woman before him. Her face clearly shared so many similarities with Rory Linden’s.

But now, looking at it, all he felt was disgust.

The room was completely silent.

The wind made the leaves outside the window rustle.

It sounded just like it did in the video.

After a few seconds, Sean Harrison’s clenched right fist slowly relaxed. He uttered two words: "I understand."

Then, he turned and left.

The hallway was dimly lit.

Sean Harrison walked quickly, unwilling to stay a second longer.

Nadia’s studio was extremely close to his and Rory’s apartment complex.

Just over ten minutes later, Sean Harrison was standing at his front door.

He took a moment to compose himself, straightened his clothes, and then opened the door.

BEEP.

The lock disengaged.

As soon as he opened the door, he saw Rory Linden running toward him from the living room.

She was wearing a beige lounge dress, her long hair down, a smile on her face.

"I thought you’d be back later."

Rory came up to meet him.

Sean Harrison was a bit surprised. "Why are you still up?"

"I was waiting for you." Rory stood beside him. "There’s something I want to tell you."

Sean Harrison, who had been bending down to change his shoes, paused when he heard her voice.

He looked up at her.

Seeing that he had changed his shoes, Rory Linden took his hand and started leading him inside. "Actually... after you left, I called Sherry Walsh. She told me a few things."

"What things?" he asked.

"She only heard it secondhand, but she said you were bullied in high school when you were abroad... and that you attempted suicide."

Rory walked very slowly.

She didn’t look back as she spoke.

Sean Harrison couldn’t see her expression at all, so he had no idea what she was feeling as she said those words.

Rory took a few more steps before turning around. "Sean Harrison, let me tell you something about my school days, too."

"What is it?" he asked.

"Actually, ever since my mom passed away, I haven’t really celebrated my birthday. On my birthday in third grade, I saw a cake box someone had thrown in the trash. There was still a small piece of cake inside, and it had the word ’Happy’ written on it. I secretly picked it out and ate it."

Rory Linden looked at Sean Harrison and said with a smile, "I’ve never told anyone that. You’re the only person who knows."

Sean Harrison’s brow furrowed involuntarily.

’Emotions churned deep inside him.’

"Don’t look like that," Rory Linden said with a smile. "That’s all in the past for me. Even though parts of it weren’t great, I’m doing well now. I’m having some success at work, and I’ve met someone who treats me very well. I don’t dwell on the past anymore."

"..."

"As for your past, it’s okay if you don’t want to talk about it right now. Whenever you feel ready to tell me, I’ll be here to listen."

Her every word was like a clear spring, silently nourishing the barren soil of his heart.

Sean Harrison lowered his gaze, his palm cupping her cheek.

The woman in his arms was soft and slender.

When he held her, it felt as if the slightest bit of extra force might break her.

He held back, restraining his strength as he embraced her, as he kissed her.

Even though their bodies were pressed together, his heart still felt like something was missing, a void filled with unease.

Sean Harrison swept her into his arms.

He wanted to leave an indelible mark on the place closest to her heart.

’He wanted her to stay by his side forever.’

’At any moment, he wanted to be able to look up and see her, to reach out and pull her into his embrace.’

-

「The next morning.」

When Rory Linden woke up, she felt dizzy and her whole body ached.

Sean Harrison had gotten home very late last night.

They had made love several more times, and by the time they fell asleep, the first rays of dawn were just beginning to streak the sky.

Rory Linden had heard the other nurses talking about it before, and the consensus was that men were generally more enthusiastic about sex.

For women, for one reason or another, at least half of it was faked.

But with Sean Harrison, whether it was because he was more skilled or some other reason, she clearly felt the pleasure every single time.

It was just that in the morning, she hated how he had overdone it.

She was rubbing her head as she sat up in bed, and Sean Harrison walked in. "Do you want to take the day off?"

He was already dressed in a crisp shirt and trousers with his tie draped around his neck, looking ready to leave for work as soon as it was knotted.

Rory Linden quickly shook her head.

Looking at the tie hanging around his neck, she beckoned to him.

When he came over, she knelt on the bed and buttoned the top button of his shirt.

Then, she adjusted the tie and meticulously tied it for him in a perfect Windsor knot.

Once the knot was finished, she said, "There."

The entire time, Sean Harrison’s gaze was fixed on Rory Linden’s face.

Her eyes were a little bloodshot from lack of sleep, and her pretty, makeup-free face still looked drowsy.

He gently touched his forehead to hers and was about to kiss her lips...

Rory quickly put a hand on his face to stop him. "No, I haven’t brushed my teeth yet."

Sean Harrison wanted to say he didn’t mind.

But not wanting to make her uncomfortable, he straightened up. "Then I’ll wait for you to brush them."

Rory Linden hopped out of bed to brush her teeth and wash her face.

The man stood right beside her the whole time.

As soon as she was done, he cupped her face, his lips descending on hers impatiently.

As their relationship grew more intimate, Rory could clearly feel that his kissing skills were improving.

Even a simple touch was enough to make her legs feel a little weak...

"Stop..."

Rory protested, pushing him away.

’If they kept kissing, she really wasn’t going to make it to work.’
