Love Across the Light Years -The Devil CEO Indulges My Lies.-Chapter 51: Did we sleep together?
Adelyn, for a moment, was dumbfounded.
She stared at the man before her, trying to read his intentions.
His earlier words made it seem as though he had been teasing her.
Did he really tease her?
The moment the thought crossed her mind, she shook it off.
That was Dylan Warren —billionaire CEO, unrivalled across all of Vabraria and one of the world’s most powerful elites. There was no way a man like him would take an interest in teasing someone like her ... and certainly not for no reason.
But little did she know —Dylan had plenty of reasons when it came to her.
She stared at him, already convincing herself that it had all been her imagination.
Yet the faint smirk playing on Dylan’s lips confused her once again.
Before she could ask him about it, he turned away and walked toward the couch nearby, picking up another bathrobe.
"What are you doing?" Adelyn asked with a small frown of confusion.
His lips curled faintly as he glanced back over his shoulder.
"Didn’t you say you wanted me to wear the bathrobe?"
She paused.
She did say that —but that was not exactly what she meant to ask.
She —
Dylan slowly turned back, his expression betraying none of his usual cold and aloof demeanor.
"What?" he said, raising a brow. "You didn’t actually mean your words?"
Adelyn flushed slightly.
Yet despite herself, she couldn’t stop her eyes from following his gaze down his frame.
A moment later, she realized what she was doing and immediately scolded herself.
"You got me wrong, sir," she said quickly, lifting her gaze back to meet his. "I do mean what I say. All the time."
Dylan watched her silently.
Something faint flickered in his eyes, deepening his gaze.
Adelyn sensed it too —but she couldn’t quite define what it was.
"Okay."
With that simple reply, Dylan turned and sat down on the couch nearby.
The sunlight streaming behind him created the perfect backdrop. Instead of softening his authority, the light seemed to emphasize it —casting a faint glow around him that only made his presence more striking.
Adelyn almost wanted to slap herself.
All she wanted was to focus, yet somehow around him she kept failing —again and again.
Why was it like this?
Hadn’t she always been immune to men’s looks?
Then why was it suddenly affecting her now?
Was this karma catching up with her?
Dylan seemed to sense the silent struggle within her.
He let her remain lost in her thoughts for a moment before casually reaching for the hotel phone beside him.
Dialling through it, he ordered breakfast.
When he placed the receiver back down, he glanced at her again.
"You look like you’ve lost something," he said calmly. "Is there something I can help you with?"
Yes. My sanity. Could you please return it to me?
The words nearly slipped out.
But Adelyn stopped herself.
Calming herself down, she pressed a smile on her lips —one that was nothing but formality. "Sorry, Mr. Warren," she said cautiously.
She didn’t know Dylan personally, but one look at him and she could feel the aura of supremacy he was shrouded in. It was enough to understand he was not someone she could casually trifle with.
She was only beginning her career. All she wanted was a peaceful life.
Provoking someone like him could easily bring trouble —not only to herself but also to Freya and Amelia.
"I actually had an allergic reaction last night and ..."
"Allergic reaction?" Dylan interrupted, sounding faintly amused.
Adelyn bit her lips
Even explaining it made her feel embarrassed. But it was the truth, and no matter how much she tried to avoid it, it always followed her.
"Yes," she admitted with another forced smile. "An allergic reaction. But it’s not like the usual kind where people break out in itching or swelling."
She hesitated before continuing.
"My allergy makes me ... delirious. And afterwards ... I don’t remember anything that happened."
"So —"
"You expect me to believe that?" Dylan interrupted again.
He leaned forward slightly, resting his elbows on his knees as his fingers clasped together.
The posture made him look calculating —almost predatory.
Most people would have broken into nervous sweat under that kind of gaze.
But Adelyn held her composure, even though it was not easy.
Nodding, she replied calmly. "I hope you will. After, I have no reason to lie to you."
Dylan’s eyes narrowed slightly.
"What if you do?"
Adelyn frowned, feeling slightly offended by his words.
Yes, he was a little charming, and she was slightly attracted to him —she wouldn’t lie about that. But what did he mean by saying that she had a reason to lie to him?
She removed the blanket from herself and got out of bed.
"What do you mean by that, Mr. Warren?"
Dylan leaned back, his posture much more relaxed. His eyes swept over her frame once before settling again on her face.
"Don’t you know what I mean, Ms. Grace?"
Adelyn’s frown only deepened.
"Mr. Warren, you —"
"Is this all to shrug off your responsibility?"
She paused at his words.
Responsibility?
What responsibility was he talking about?
She stared at him, trying to figure it out. But nothing explained the meaning behind that simple word.
After a moment of hesitation, she asked, "Mr. Warren, what responsibility are you talking about?"
"The responsibility of what happened between us last night," Dylan answered without flinching at all. It was like he was long prepared to keep it straight to her. "Don’t tell me you think you can run away after sleeping with me?"
Adelyn almost staggered.
Her knees gave way, and she fell back onto the bed, sitting down with a soft thud.
She slept with him?
At first, she wanted to deny it. But when she recalled the hints that were too obvious to ignore, she didn’t dare.
Her waking up in nothing but a bathrobe.
Him stepping out of the bathroom, wrapped in nothing but a towel.
Them sharing the same room.
And her not remembering anything ...
Did she really sleep with him?
She looked at him, afraid to admit the obvious.
"Did we really sleep together?"
Before Dylan could answer her, another furious voice interjected.
"No, he didn’t."
