Chapter 185: Chapter 185: "Zhou Mochen, I’m in so much pain...

Zhou Mochen knew that Shen Chen had come to Kang County, so the last of Xu Su’s suspicions completely vanished.

’Looks like I was getting ahead of myself,’ she thought. ’Shen Chen really isn’t interested in me; otherwise, why would he come looking for me right under Zhou Mochen’s nose?’

Xu Su had nothing to hide. "Yes, I came in his car."

There was a pause on the other end of the line. "Where are you now? I’ll come get you. Susu, have dinner with me tonight."

Perhaps it was because she had been wronged so much today, but she simply couldn’t maintain her tough facade in front of the person she subconsciously trusted most.

Feeling the stinging pain from the wound on her neck, Xu Su’s voice was tinged with a sob when she spoke again. "Zhou Mochen, it hurts so much..."

Feeling wronged is like a dam—once a crack appears, it’s bound to burst. A moment ago, Xu Su had been trading barbs with Shen Chen as if nothing was wrong. But now, with her facade shattered in front of Zhou Mochen, she instantly broke down.

Xu Su cried until she could barely breathe. Her mind was filled with the humiliation of being harassed by a group of greasy, middle-aged men at the banquet. The shot of baijiu she had forced down for the sake of the situation was now wreaking havoc in her stomach. She had only eaten a few bites of vegetables for lunch, and her stomach, unused to hard liquor, had long been burning with a terrible pain.

Then all those people started telling lewd jokes, and on top of that, she got hurt.

Her skin had always been delicate. The three long gashes on her neck... That Little Huang Mao hadn’t held back at all. He was a young man with a young man’s strength, and he’d clawed her skin open. In this heat, the wounds could easily get infected if not treated properly.

’And... most importantly... Xi Zirong. How am I going to face Xi Zirong when school starts...?’

’Even if I’d already decided to break up with him, it shouldn’t have happened like this.’

Riding this wave of misery, she cried out all her frustrations, completely oblivious to how frantic Zhou Mochen was getting on the other end of the line. She just kept crying for herself.

At some point, the car stopped. Shen Chen took the phone from Xu Su’s hand, said a few words to the person on the other end, and hung up.

Turning to look at the girl, who was a complete mess of tears, Shen Chen sighed. "Don’t cry. I’ll make them pay for what they did to you. Does it really hurt that much?"

Looking at the wound on her neck, he felt both heartbroken and furious. He pulled out two tissues and handed them over. "If you know it hurts, then learn your lesson. Don’t get into fights when you’re alone. A smart person knows not to fight a losing battle, got it?"

Seeing how pitiful she looked while crying, Shen Chen deliberately teased her, "If you feel wronged, just tell me. I’ll have your back."

"..."

Xu Su ignored him. Only when she had finally cried herself out did she take a tissue and wipe away her tears.

Shen Chen let out an almost imperceptible sigh of relief. "Okay, if you’ve cried enough, get out. Time to get that wound taken care of."

They had arrived. Xu Su lifted her swollen eyelids and looked out the window.

She had assumed they were just going to the city hospital to get the cut bandaged. She never expected Shen Chen to take her to a plastic surgery clinic. The decor was so high-end and luxurious that it looked less like a hospital and more like a private club.

Xu Su hesitated...

Shen Chen was already out of the car. He opened the passenger door and, seeing her still sitting there, reached in to pull her out.

He explained patiently, "Don’t be afraid. I asked around, and as far as plastic surgery clinics in Chang City go, the doctors here are the only ones who are any good. Your wound doesn’t need stitches. We’ll just have them bandage it and put on some ointment to prevent scarring."

’It’s not that I’m afraid,’ she thought. ’It just seems like overkill to come here for a scratch like this. Of course the doctors at a place like this are good—they cater to wealthy women. You can’t run a business like this without real skill. We probably even need an appointment.’

As Shen Chen led Xu Su out of the car, he saw several people standing at the entrance in the distance. He didn’t have to guess to know they were waiting for them.

Sure enough, as soon as they saw Shen Chen approaching, the group hurried over to greet him before he even got close.

The middle-aged man in a white shirt at the center of the group was exceptionally animated. "You must be Mr. Shen! Quick, quick, please come inside! After we got your call, I had all of our specialists and department heads who weren’t in surgery put on standby."

Xu Su: ...

Shen Chen was clearly used to this kind of scene. He waved his hand, "Dean Hu, you’re too kind. No need for such a grand welcome. It’s just a minor flesh wound. Just bandage it properly with the best medicine so it doesn’t leave a scar."

Surprised by how casual he was, the middle-aged man’s smile grew even more enthusiastic. "Please, rest assured. The medical skills of our hospital’s specialists are all top-notch."

Dean Hu turned to Xu Su. He completely ignored her puffy, tear-stained face, glancing only at her wound for a moment. His expression visibly relaxed. "This must be the patient, then? Mr. Shen, don’t you worry. Leave her wound to us. We guarantee it won’t leave a scar."

Shen Chen nodded, and he and Xu Su were led into an office.

The man in the white shirt—Dean Hu—wiped sweat from his brow. He pulled over a middle-aged man in a white lab coat who had been waiting with him at the entrance and quickly made the introduction. "This is our Director Liu. He’s the star of our hospital. We have patients coming from all over the province, even the whole country, just to see him. Rest assured, your girlfriend’s injury will be no problem at all."

Xu Su froze. She wanted to explain, but then decided there was no point in explaining her relationship status to a group of strangers.

Shen Chen had no intention of explaining either. He simply nodded. Once Xu Su was seated, he waved a hand at the other specialists standing by. "You can all get back to your work."

The specialists had barely left and the door had been closed for less than half a minute when it was violently pushed open again.

It was Zhou Mochen, dressed in a white shirt and black pants, his face etched with visible anxiety. The moment he saw Xu Su on the long sofa, his intimidating aura vanished, and he strode over in a few quick steps.

The girl’s eyes were swollen, the tip of her nose was still red, and the iodine-swabbed wounds on her neck looked even more gruesome. When Zhou Mochen saw the three long scratches, he froze on the spot. Even the expression on his face seemed to stop in time.

He remained frozen for several long seconds before he finally reacted. He stiffly sat down beside Xu Su, his hands trembling as he pulled her closer to carefully examine the wounds on her neck.

When he looked up again, his eyes were bloodshot. "Who did this?"

His voice was hoarse, and his gaze was murderous.

He couldn’t bring himself to question her when she was so hurt, so Zhou Mochen’s gaze fell on Shen Chen, who was leaning against the desk. "Who did this?"

Leaning against his chest, Xu Su could feel his heart hammering. She couldn’t help but tug on his arm. "Let go of me for now. Can you ask questions after my wound is treated? It really hurts."

Director Liu had originally assumed that Xu Su and Shen Chen, the one the dean had personally welcomed, were a couple. He hadn’t expected another man to show up and immediately pull the girl into a tight embrace, looking ready to demand answers.

He was just wondering if he should step out and wait for them to finish when he heard Xu Su speak. He quickly nodded. "Yes, let’s treat the wound first. In this heat, it could easily get infected. It won’t take long at all. We’ll be done in a moment."

Zhou Mochen froze, then slowly released Xu Su. His gaze fell on her slightly low-cut collar. ’When they treat the wound, they’ll have to pull down the strap on her shoulder...’ The thought made his already dark expression turn even more grim.
