Chapter 58: Chapter 58: Showing Leniency

Regarding Ben Lawson’s level of ’disability’, to be fair and honest, he should at least be classified as third degree disabled.

The criteria for third-degree disability: Unable to live independently, requiring regular supervision, restricted activities mostly limited to indoor activities, clear occupational limitations, and difficulties in social interaction.

Clearly, Ben Lawson now meets all the criteria.

Ben Lawson’s silent curses were more powerful than spoken ones; everything was understood without words. If not for his stubborn male pride, he might almost express, ’Left speechless, with only tears flowing down’.

The more Ben Lawson thought about it, the more stifled he felt. Unable to curse, he simply closed his eyes.

Seeing Ben Lawson close his eyes, Stella Grant turned and whispered to Sue Woods, "Didn’t you say to be gentle?"

Sue Woods replied in an even softer voice, afraid Ben Lawson might hear, "It just looks severe; it’s actually not that bad."

Stella Grant was incredulous, "This isn’t considered severe?"

Sue Woods explained, "His head is bandaged; it’s just a dislocated jaw. The nurse was worried he’d move around while unconscious, that’s why they bandaged him like that. As for his body, it’s his ribs and shoulder..."

Sue Woods then nodded towards the lower half, "You’re only seeing the upper body. The lower half under the blanket isn’t bandaged and isn’t injured."

Stella Grant was speechless.

It turned out the only uninjured lower half had become Sue Woods’ excuse for defense at this time.

The two exchanged glances. Sue Woods gestured to Stella Grant with her eyes, while Stella wore an awkward expression, finding it hard to plead on her behalf.

After some eye contact, Sue Woods put her hands together in a pleading gesture towards Stella Grant and whispered, "Saving a life is more meritorious than building a seven-story pagoda."

Stella Grant responded, "If you lay down the butcher knife, you would immediately become a Buddha."

Sue Woods was a bit anxious, "Mine is a blunt knife."

Stella Grant said, "Good thing it’s a blunt knife. If your ’knife’ were any sharper, even his lower half might not have been spared."

Sue Woods was on the verge of tears.

Despite her words, Stella Grant felt sorry for Sue Woods, and after a moment in silence, she sighed gently and stepped to the bedside, speaking sincerely, "Mr. Lawson."

Ben Lawson kept his eyes closed without responding.

Stella Grant knew the fault lay with Sue Woods, and she didn’t expect Ben Lawson to respond at this moment. Throwing water on his car by day and hitting him at night; anyone would have trouble forgiving so quickly.

Stella Grant pursed her lips and continued, "It’s true this is Sue Woods’ fault. She also realizes her mistake. Could you perhaps... give her another chance?"

After speaking, Stella Grant turned and signaled with her eyes for Sue Woods to apologize.

Sue Woods understood instantly, and not daring to delay, she stepped forward and bowed ninety degrees towards Ben Lawson’s bed, "Mr. Lawson, I’m sorry. Please don’t hold it against me."

Stella Grant and Sue Woods pleaded genuinely, but as expected, Ben Lawson lay there in silence without responding, eyes still closed.

After a few seconds, Silas Sutton kicked Ben Lawson’s bed, "That’s enough."

Ben Lawson opened his eyes to glare at him; if he could speak, who knows what curses he’d utter.

Silas Sutton ignored him and turned to Stella Grant, "Your friend has also been up all night. Take her home to rest."

Stella Grant knew Silas Sutton was giving her a way out, but she didn’t take Sue Woods away.

Wrong is wrong. Whether to forgive or not is Ben Lawson’s business, but apologizing is Sue Woods’ responsibility.

Just because you know someone won’t forgive doesn’t mean you don’t have to apologize.

It’s human nature not to forgive when wronged, and if you hurt someone, don’t expect them to forgive you.

But if you don’t apologize, then you have a character problem.

Stella Grant had her own set of principles for dealing with people. Silas Sutton saw her standing still, knew she was stubborn, and leaned back silently.

The atmosphere was tense for about ten seconds before Ben Lawson impatiently gestured to Silas Sutton with his eyes.

Seeing this, Silas Sutton joked, "We’re not that in sync; I’m afraid I’ll misunderstand your intention."

At this, Ben Lawson silently cursed Silas Sutton’s ancestors in his mind.

Silas Sutton continued with a light laugh, "How about this: I’ll guess, and if I’m right, blink twice. If I’m wrong, blink once. If you agree, blink three times."

Being out of patience, Ben Lawson blinked three times.

Silas Sutton smiled slightly, "Let them go?"

Ben Lawson blinked twice.

Silas Sutton tilted his head and raised his eyebrows at Stella Grant, "Now can you leave?"

Stella Grant also saw Ben Lawson’s response, pulled Sue Woods over to apologize again, then took out some cash from her bag and placed it on the bedside table, "Mr. Lawson, this might not be enough for the hospital bill, but it’s all I have with me. Tomorrow, Sue and I will bring the rest."

After speaking, she offered an apologetic smile, and left with Sue Woods.

Once outside the room, Sue Woods’ legs were too weak to move, so Stella Grant stayed with her leaning against the wall in the hallway for a moment, then said, "Your uncle shouldn’t have encouraged you to learn martial arts, thinking you’d be a chivalrous hero, but you ended up as a bully."

Sue Woods’ lips trembled, "Really, it’s just..."

Halfway through her sentence, Stella Grant’s phone suddenly vibrated twice in her pocket.

Stella Grant took out her phone and glanced at it; it was a message from an unknown number: Prepare five hundred thousand, and I’ll tell you the whereabouts of your dad.
