Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Denying Responsibility

Stella Grant’s apartment wasn’t large; it was only seven or eight steps from the dining table to the sofa.

Silas Sutton supported her hips, letting her legs wrap around his waist. With each step he took, the kiss deepened.

Once a person gets drunk, some desires that were once buried in the depths of the heart begin to wildly grow.

Reason still exists, but desire can be the last straw that breaks it.

When Stella was placed down to sit on the sofa’s armrest, her hand clung tightly to Silas Sutton’s collar, refusing to let go.

Silas bent over, supporting himself on her sides with his arms. His eyes were dark and deep, yet he did not kiss her again.

Stella looked up at him slightly, her eyes filled with various emotions, as if she was somewhat regretful now that she was sobering up, or perhaps even more intoxicated.

Silas’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and he spoke in a low voice, "I won’t take advantage of someone."

Stella’s red lips moved slightly, wanting to say something, but in the end, she pressed them tightly and remained silent.

Everyone is an adult; desire is something that need not be spoken aloud to be perceived.

Seeing Stella’s silence, Silas was not in a hurry and simply waited with her.

After a little over a minute, Stella’s eyelashes lightly trembled, and the tip of her lowered foot touched Silas’s calf.

Silas narrowed his eyes slightly, patient as ever, "Hmm?"

Stella tightened the grip of her fingers on the armrest, an unknown emotion surging up along with the heat inside her.

Silas gazed down at her. After about four or five seconds, he was the first to yield, lowering his head to lightly suck on Stella’s lips, his voice hoarse as he said, "You should know yourself just how drunk you are..."

After he spoke, he didn’t give Stella a chance to back out, intertwining his fingers with hers.

The moment Silas’s shirt came off, Stella’s remaining trace of drunkenness was thoroughly dispelled.

Seeing the clarity in her eyes, Silas picked her up and carried her to the bedroom.

No turning back once the bow is drawn, especially in matters like these.

One bed, two people, chaotic, turbulent, intense...

The next day.

After a night’s tussle, Stella found it difficult to even turn over when she opened her eyes.

Just as she attempted to move, a large hand fell on her waist, pulling her entirely into an embrace.

Immediately after, Silas’s deep, magnetic voice sounded by her ear, "Awake?"

Hearing his voice, Stella’s body instinctively tensed.

Feeling her stiffness, Silas chuckled lightly in mockery, "Thinking of denying it?"

Stella didn’t respond, closing her eyes instead.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to face it; she just didn’t know how to for the moment.

Just as Stella was contemplating whether to "play dead" and go back to sleep, the phone on the bedside suddenly rang.

Worried it might be something from the company, Stella couldn’t afford to "play dead", so she steeled herself to grab the phone and answer it.

In her haste to answer, Stella didn’t even check who was calling.

Once connected, Sue Woods’s soft sobbing came from the other end, "Stella."

Hearing this, Stella’s heart sank, recalling that Sue was taken away by Ben Lawson last night, her mind filled with restless images, "What’s wrong?"

Sue, sounding tearful, said, "I got into trouble again."

Stella’s heart leapt into her throat, "Get to the point."

Sue, "I sent Ben Lawson to the hospital, with a fracture..."

Stella, "..."

This news struck like a bolt out of the blue for Stella.

Unsure how to describe her current state of mind, she paused a few seconds before asking, "What exactly happened?"

Sue didn’t elaborate over the phone, just kept crying, "Can you come to the hospital? The nurse said he’ll wake up in half an hour, and I’m scared..."

As Sue spoke, her crying grew more intense, as if something catastrophic had happened.

Even on a regular day, Stella would rush over immediately at something like this, especially since she now needed an excuse to leave this place of turmoil.

Stella comforted Sue over the phone, telling her not to panic, then hung up and took a deep breath to adjust her mood before turning to the man beside her.

Compared to Stella’s forced composure, Silas truly appeared unruffled.

Their eyes met, and Silas’s thin lips curled slightly, "Want to say something?"

Stella, "Last night..."

She hesitated, quickly organizing her thoughts.

Silas, half-smiling, continued her thought, "Another round of thanks and a meal invite some other day?"

Stella blushed instantly, "..."

She wasn’t drugged last night, and she couldn’t bring herself to say something as insincere as that.

After a moment of tense silence, Stella clenched her hands hidden beneath the covers and spoke frankly, "President Sutton, what’s done is done. Saying anything now is futile. We’re both adults; it was a consensual matter, let’s call it even."

She maintained her composure while speaking, though she felt insecure inside.

Silas raised an eyebrow at her, "Even?"
