Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Masterful Manipulation

In the end, both parties were taken back to the police station.

Just before getting into the police car, Sue Woods sarcastically looked at the righteous bystanders, "Aren’t you all going to the police station to testify for this lady?"

Righteous Bystander A, "We, we don’t know what happened between you all, how can we testify for her."

Righteous Bystander B, "Exactly, we just couldn’t stand how you spoke to an elderly person."

Righteous Bystander C, "The police are already here, and there are cameras everywhere, why do we need to go to the station?"

Listening to the self-righteous reasoning of the three bystanders, Sue Woods’ eyes filled with more scorn, "Now you claim you don’t know what happened? From what I saw earlier, anyone would have thought you were directly involved."

After mocking Righteous Bystander A, Sue Woods turned to Righteous Bystander B, "Just helping an old lady out of the goodness of your heart? Looks to me like you’re unhappy with life and just wanted to vent your frustrations on someone. Pure? You’re anything but pure."

Having lashed out at the first two, Sue Woods turned to Righteous Bystander C.

The person quickly turned their head away in fright when they noticed her gaze.

Sue Woods smirked slightly, "I’m too tired to even bother with you."

Feeling satisfied after her verbal tirade, Sue Woods reached out to grab Stella Grant’s arm, "Come on, I’ll go to the station with you."

Stella Grant, covered in what she called disgusting mess, dodged Sue’s outstretched hand, "Filthy."

Sue Woods stubbornly replied, "I’m not afraid."

Stella Grant’s lips curled up slightly, "It’s not about fear, it’s about the mess you’ll have to clean up, it’s a waste of water."

After speaking, Stella turned to the police officer standing nearby, "I can’t get into the car like this, I’ll drive my own car and follow you."

The officer looked at Stella’s state and sighed helplessly, "Alright, go ahead."

With that, he turned to signal other officers to escort Mrs. Shepherd into the police car.

Upon hearing she had to ride in the police car, Mrs. Shepherd’s legs went weak, and she tearfully responded, "Officer, I didn’t do anything, it was that woman, that woman is bad! She’s about to marry my son and she’s still messing around with other men, cheating on my son, she..."

Mrs. Shepherd’s voice was hoarse as she spoke, but before she could finish, the lead officer impatiently told the junior officer at her side, "Go find the security and get the footage, just say it’s needed for the investigation."

The junior officer replied, "Got it, boss."

Mrs. Shepherd’s cries abruptly stopped, "..."

Meanwhile, Stella Grant retrieved two bottles of mineral water and a pack of wipes from her car, quickly cleaned herself up, and got into her car.

Sue Woods, sitting in the passenger seat, looked at her friend’s disheveled state, her eyes reddening with anger.

"I really can’t believe it, what kind of family is the Shepherds? Thank goodness you’re not marrying into them."

"I met them a few times before your family had any issues, they were so eager to please you, I even told my dad you were lucky to find such a good family."

Sue Woods still remembers what her father, Mr. Woods, had said.

Wyman Woods said, "Don’t judge people by how they treat you when you’re at your peak, watch how they treat you when you’ve hit rock bottom."

Back then, Sue Woods pouted at Wyman Woods, thinking he wasn’t right.

Now, on reflection, the old saying proved true.

It was spot-on.

No, what Dad said wasn’t just spot-on, it was like hitting an artery, pouring with blood.

Thinking of the blood, Sue Woods thought again of the mess on Stella Grant.

She turned her head slightly to look, feeling even angrier.

Once they reached the station, Stella Grant and Sue Woods hadn’t even gotten out of the car when they saw two young officers dragging Mrs. Shepherd out.

Sue Woods’ eyes lit up, she unbuckled her seatbelt and leaned toward the window, "What’s up with her? Faking a fall?"

Stella Grant’s red lips moved, "Scared."

A classic case of barking louder than its bite.

Sue Woods, "Go, Northeast Goose, applaud her—she got what she deserved."

Stella Grant couldn’t hold back her laughter, "Let’s get out."

Sue Woods acknowledged with a ’mm’ and turned to push open the door. Just as she opened it a crack, she remembered something and turned back to Stella Grant, "Oh yeah, send me Ben Lawson’s contact info."

Stella Grant raised an eyebrow suspiciously, "Hmm?"

Sue Woods, "I need to ask him for a day off, so I can be there for you instead of being his workhorse tomorrow."

Stella Grant said, "I’ll send it to you now."

After Stella Grant sent Ben Lawson’s number to Sue Woods, she headed into the police station first.

Walking behind, Sue Woods dialed Ben Lawson’s number.

The call connected, and before Ben could speak, Sue Woods introduced herself, "Hello, Mr. Lawson, this is Sue Woods, you know, the one who brazenly splashed paint on your car and was fortunately forgiven by your magnanimity."

Ben Lawson, "..."

Ben Lawson, in all his years, had never heard such a long and vivid self-introduction. After a moment of silence, he asked, "What’s up?"

Sue Woods lowered her voice slightly, "Could I get a day off today?"

After speaking, fearing Ben Lawson might think she was trying to shirk responsibilities, she quickly added, "I’m not trying to avoid anything; my friend is in a bit of trouble, we’re at the police station right now."

Hearing this, Ben Lawson raised his head to look at Silas Sutton, who sat across from him with a stern face, cleared his throat, and raised his voice, "What’s happened to Stella Grant? Why is she at the police station all of a sudden?"
