Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Feeling Guilty

Phoebe.

The alias used by the person who initially funded Stella Grant.

Besides her, not even Mrs. Grant knew this name.

So when Ben Lawson said these two words, she believed him completely.

Ben Lawson was just trying it out, but didn’t expect Stella to actually believe it.

Seeing the joy on Stella’s face, Ben Lawson suddenly felt a sense of guilt, awkwardly laughed twice, and shifted the topic, "Is that your friend?"

Stella replied honestly, "Yes, she’s my best friend."

Ben Lawson, "Your friend..."

Ben Lawson was initially going to say ’quite fierce’, but remembering the tall image he had in Stella’s mind at the moment, he changed his words, "seems very loyal."

Stella could detect how insincere this ’praise’ was from Ben Lawson, and apologized, "Sorry Mr. Lawson, she didn’t do it on purpose."

After saying this, Stella paused and added, "Don’t worry, the compensation money won’t be a penny less, it’s just that it might take a bit longer..."

Whether it was the four million Ben Lawson mentioned.

Or the actual price of the car, five million.

For Sue Woods and her, it was not a small amount.

Even if they worked hard to scrape it together, it would take three to five years.

Ben Lawson understood what Stella was thinking, didn’t speak to her directly, turned around and spoke to the old policeman taking the record, "Officer Wade, I’d like to drop this case."

The old policeman was, of course, happy to see this happen, "Dropping it?"

Ben Lawson chuckled, "Do you really want me to send the young lady directly to jail?"

The old policeman put down the pen in his hand, pushing it toward Ben Lawson, "Don’t pin that on me, here, sign, and hurry on out."

Ben Lawson signed with a smile at the corner of his mouth, and after signing, he stood up and told the old policeman, "Uncle Wade, I’ll treat you to a meal another day."

Sitting and standing, using these different names was truly a matter of business, blending in with local customs.

The old policeman twitched his mouth twice, "No need, just don’t cause me any more trouble."

After saying that, the old policeman tossed the record book at a young policeman beside him, "Case closed."

The young policeman took it, "Got it, Director Wade."

Ben Lawson withdrew the case, Stella Grant, and Sue Woods followed him out.

The three walked out of the police station, Ben Lawson took out his phone and made a call to the driver, said a couple of words, then hung up, turned to Stella and said, "Forget about the compensation, it’s not much money."

Stella, "How could that be?"

Ben Lawson chuckled, "Let’s just say it’s for your sake."

Stella was firm, "No, it’s not a small amount after all."

Ben Lawson smiled and looked at Sue Woods, "How about this, you be my housekeeper for two months, and we’ll call it even."

Sue Woods nervously, "Isn’t two months a bit too little?"

Four million for two months, she hadn’t made that much in her entire 26 years of life.

Ben Lawson was amused by the two of them, "Then how about half a year?"

Sue Woods sincerely, "I still have to work during the day, Mr. Lawson, can I just handle your three meals a day and cleaning?"

Ben Lawson was originally just giving them an out, didn’t really mean to go through with it, nodded, and smiled, "Sure."

As Ben Lawson finished speaking, a Bentley car pulled up in front of them.

Ben Lawson waved to the two and got into the car.

As the car was about to leave, Stella suddenly stepped forward and knocked on the car window.

The window rolled down, and Stella took out her phone and asked, "Mr. Lawson, can I have your contact information?"

Ben Lawson felt uneasy but feigned surprise, "Hmm?"

Stella pursed her lips and said, "I want to pay you back."

Upon hearing the repayment, Ben Lawson felt even more anxious, "There’s no need."

Stella thought Ben Lawson was worried she intended to climb the social ladder, explained, "Rest assured, I won’t bother you."

Ben Lawson felt awkward, wanted to refuse but had no way to do so, "Alright."

After saying that, Ben Lawson added, "You can leave your contact info, but I’m telling you now, no repayments."

Stella knew Ben Lawson didn’t lack money, was just purely wanting to return the favor, "Okay, if you ever need anything, just let me know."

Ben Lawson, "Alright."

The two exchanged contact information, Ben Lawson dared not linger, smiled at Stella, while constantly kicking the back of the driver’s seat.

The driver looked confused, "Mr. Lawson?"

Ben Lawson gritted his teeth and said, "Drive!"

The driver responded, slammed on the gas, and the car sped off a few meters.
