Rio didn't know how to feel about the Devil's departure. At once he should be glad that now he won't have to be too afraid to close his eyes, but on the other, before leaving, Devil left behind a bunch of memories - he neither asked nor needed.

The memories of a life he lived, or the pain that he went through.

It was all kind of blurry like a lucid dream , coming back to mind in bits and pieces or out of order – and Rio couldn't really remember much of them when awake, but what he could do however, clear as day, was to feel the emotions of his tattered soul.

The pain, the hunger, the loneliness, betrayal, and to the end despair and death.

"So that's the life he lived?" Rio said, while holding his forehead, trying to suppress the anger and helplessness he felt imagining the scene where Devil stood alone in his castle, while the army of heaven, the soldiers of lord, Angels surrounded his planet and razed everything to the ground, just to hunt him down.

Rio didn't doubt the memories, didn't even need to ask the system if they were true or just another illusion – bbecause he could feel it in his soul.

The resonance, the process of merging which was so similar to when he awakened the original Rio's memories.

Everything he saw, and everything he felt was real. As real as hua earth life.

[It's all in the past, host.] The system tried to comfort, but lacking confidence in it's voice.

"Past?" Rio sneered, and shook his head.

For a moment after learning everything, he was glad that the Devil wasn't exactly his current self's future version, but the final fragment of his soul from a long gone past life.

He felt happy that it was just history, and he won't let it repeat itself. That he could change his fate and future.

But after having the memories of his 3 lifetimes (Devil's, Shiva's, and current Rio's) playing side by side, he wasn't exactly so sure.

The pattern was just way too obvious.

Not to mention the fact that the Devil had earlier mentioned, there were many other lives and many more repeatations of his same journey.

Maybe Devil is right, his life is just a story, fated to end in despair or darkness.

Rio couldn't help but look at the sky, and wonder what exactly was the purpose of such life.

'Did he contact you?' He asked, throwing away the ciggerate butt, before lighting another.

[....He didn't answer, host.] System replied honestly. Refering to it's countless efforts in seeking answers from The Being who was behind everything.

[But you don't have to worry, I've known him for all my existence, and trust me, one thing he's not, is a liar.]

[He said your rebirth was to give you a chance at happiness, then it must be so. Just….. just don't give up hope, okay.]

Rio heard the system's words, just chuckled.

How could he explain, that hope was the only reason he was still standing, cause his soul, seemed to have died down now.

"I'm going to burn this world down, before I let history repeat itself." He promised himself.

knock knock

Rio was lost in his thoughts, when a knock on his door sounded, bringing him back to reality.

He threw the cigarette in his mouth out after a last puff, before waving his hand to clear out the smoke, and walked towards the door.

Esme stood at the door, holding the food cart with an anxious heart.

It's been hours since the sun set and night began. Everyone from the family was gathering for dinner, but seeing him still absent, Agnus asked her to bring his food here alone.

'I should've come to check on him sooner.' She thought, blaming herself as to why she followed his order and stayed near her sister. When it was clear, that he wasn't feeling fine, or that something was on his mind.

'Myra would be so disappointed if she knew.' Esme thought.

"Esme, _ it's you." Rio's voice sounded the moment he opened the door. "Come in."

Esme walked into his room, and couldn't help but flinch as the smell of cigs hit her nostrils. But before she could ask why he broke his promise and started smoking again, Rio changed the topic.

"Is your sister okay?" He asked.

And after seeing that Rio didn't want to talk about that point, she too complied along his wishes.

"Erza's fine, master." She replied. "She's resting now and will be able to return to her duties as lady Amelia's shadow by tomorrow morning."

"So soon?" Rio muttered, "You know she can rest if she wants. Fully recover."

"Amy's anyway with mother, so Myra can temporarily take over her duties." ƒree𝑤ebnσvel-com

"I told her too. But…you know how stubborn she is." Esme replied.

Hearing her response, Rio just shook his head helplessly, before glancing at the cart she brought in.

"Is that food?" He asked, removing the covers and seeing the dishes.

Esme smiled seeing him pick a few sweets and tasting them before frowning and putting them down. Finding them too sweet for his taste.

These little moments couldn't help but remind Esme of their childhood, when he'd steal and sneak sweet dishes for his sister, and when caught by Lady Artemis, stuff them in his mouth with that same soury expression.

"What time is it? Has everyone else eaten already?" Rio asked, placing everything as it was.

"No, but they're in the hall as we speak." Esme replied. "Sir Agnus thought you'll be resting in your room, so he asked me to bring your food here."

"Father… ." Rio muttered and just shook his head.

"Keep the tray here, and let's go join them." Rio said as he snapped his fingers.

Activating the blessing of Aphrodite, which smoothlined his appearance a little bit. Before stepping out.

[Host, you're okay, right?] The system asked, seeing how fast he changed colors.

"... I'm fine." Rio replied. While trying to force out a smile which didn't look fake. And could maybe, fool his parents a little bit.

… .

Far away from the empire of Schilla, in the golden temples of Neisah, A priest looked up at the sky, as if his eyes could penetrate the darkness of night and shadow of the moon, before settling in on the sun shining brightly at the other end.

"It has begun, my lord." The priest muttered in an excited tone, while holding tightly on the book of destiny in his hands.

"Yout humble servant awaits your further guidance, Lord. For the day is nigh, when the light of Apollo shines on Arcadia once more."

As the priest prayed on his knees, an ethereal voice sounded in his ears. Giving commands about their future.

By the time his prayers were answered, The priest stood up after a bow, and announced his instructions to their fellow believers.

"Call Andreas. Tell him it's time." The priest said, before disappearing at the attic of their church.

Their rivalry will start soon. After all, the only thing Devil hates other than his fate, is the fucking lightbringers.
