Life Of A Nobody - as a Villain-Chapter 483: The Devil’s promise
After the meeting at the Raven estate ended, Rio didn't talk to anyone. He simply walked into one of the empty guest rooms and collapsed into bed.
Yeah. Just slept.
Because from an outside perspective, maybe it had only been a few days. But to Rio, it felt like a decade of war compressed into mere hours.
From surviving the depths of the dungeon, to Aelthar's trials—to being caught cheating and forced to fight, – to killing a god, and then surviving an ambush from Virgil — and when that was all over then finally facing the Devil, only to discover everything he knew about himself was a lie.
Ohh and that's not all
In between all this there's the stress from Amy fighting Apate, making enemies out of god's, exposing chaos, Finn's domain, Alfred's outrageous proposal _ and the headache of finding better excuses to convince everyone tomorrow.
God, so many things
Rio felt his mind was fried numb at this point, and whatever he thought of was either just plain stupid, or negative extreme.
So to give his body and soul some time to recover, he tried to fall in the embrace of sleep.
Only to wake up cursing.
"Ahhh, for fuck sake." Rio cursed and opened his eyes wide. Trying to shake off the tingling of his soul imagining Devil's eyes in the darkness. And his helpless struggle.
"Can you just let me sleep? … Please."
At this point, Rio felt so done with everything, that he just put aside his pride, and just started begging.
He really needed to sleep. Or else he felt he'll just go insane.
Surprisingly this time after he closed his eyes, the feeling of being watched upon and the overwhelming fear all disappeared, and soon his consciousness entered the dream world.
[....Maybe the Devil's generous enough to let him rest.]
The system thought while staying in a well lit corner, before going back to it's work.
Trying to upgrade as soon as possible, while sending millions of messages to The omniscient Being , asking for help.
But what the system didn't know was that no one was coming to help it, or him.
….
Back into the dreaming, Rio felt his consciousness pulled back to the past. Straight into a period he wished to forget.
He was standing in the same apocalyptic world of the dreaded dungeon where he spent two years of absolute hell.
"What did I expect, from a guy named Devil."
Rio muttered with a sigh, knowing it must be another trick or illusion caused by that ghost living in his head.
He looked around and immediately realized at what 'time' he was teleported to.
The whole dungeon was shaking, collapsing, and crashing on it's own. With deep void cracks forming in the sky, tearing the space apart.
"Ohh great, we start at the very beginning." Rio muttered while watching as Virgil stabbed him in the guts and picked his wounded body from the ground.
"You're gonna die here, Rio. Should've accepted my offer." Virgil spoke as he threw him onto a boulder like trash and ran off alone.
Rio just floated near his kneeling body, like a vengeful ghost, watching himself crush his heart to gather a little bit of mana for the access to his storage ring.
"So pathetic." Rio thought to himself, not sure who he was cursing here exactly.
"Well, here it comes." He thought, and took a deep breath, while preparing himself for the wave of tearing pain about to hit his body as the dungeon starts getting pulled away from Arcadia.
But the feeling of his body being torn to pieces and then being stretched to the limit or spaghettified didn't come.
"That's weird." Rio muttered, clearly remembering he felt that pain around this moment two years back.
"You wondering why the pain didn't come?" The familiar voice of the Devil asked in his ears. "Or still curious about how you managed to survive?"
Rio looked around warily to find the source of this voice, yet found nothing. Felt nothing.
"Look at your eyes and you'll know."
The Devil ignored his efforts and spoke again.
As if a shift in pov happened, and Rio found himself standing in front of his body. Yet the sight he saw horrified him. Leaving him speechless.
He watched as right before the wave of space could rip him to pieces, like it did for everyone else, his pupils started to shift. Changing shades from an abyssal dark to a haunting red.
"What the…." Rio cursed while staring at his eyes and the changes in his aura.
"You didn't think you survived this by some miracle, did you?"
"We aren't that lucky." The Devil joked,
but Rio didn't respond.
This dungeon was the first time he ever got in contact with the Devil. During that time, the overpowered figure was simply a voice in his head. Helping him, guiding him, keeping him company so he doesn't go insane from all the loneliness and despair.
Rio watched as the Devil took over his body, snapped his fingers and simply skipped the whole spaghettification process.
"Why?" Rio asked, staring at himself. "Why save me?"
"You still ask me?" The Devil replied, "I already told you. I'm not your enemy, Rio."
"On the other hand, I might be the biggest well wisher of your life."
"Heh, I find that hard to believe." Rio sneered, staring at the scenes unfolding slowly. "If you really were my friend, I wouldn't be trapped there for so long."
"I wouldn't be forced to fight monsters everyday, every damn minute for two whole years."
"That was simply a survival test. To see if you're actually worthy of my efforts." The Devil explained.
"If you can't even survive this little pain, how will you become who I am?"
"Was forcing me to eat the corpses of those monsters, of my classmates and friends also a survival test?" Rio asked with an angry glare, watching the scene where the voice in his head whispered tips for living.
"I didn't force you to do anything." The Devil refused. "I just guided you, while walking down that path was you alone."
"Heh." Rio just sneered at the Devil, and turned around. Not willing to stare at his past self in the eyes.
The Devil was right, all it did was just whisper in his ears, it was his own choice of the sacrifices made, or the lines he was willing to cross – to come back alive.
Apparently turning into a disgusting cannibal to ward off hunger wasn't as scary as dying without saving his sister.
Those were his choices , and he just had to live with them.
"What's next?" Rio asked, after finding himself back into the world of darkness. "What do you want from me?"
"Don't you know it already?" The Devil spoke.
"All I want is for you to accept your truth. But what I don't understand is why you keep trying to hide it? To run from it? To bury it in your mind."
"...."
"You are simply born to be a killer. Doomed for destruction and darkness. So why? Why try so hard to fight it?"
"I want _ to be happy."
Rio replied after much struggle. Suppressing the depression from both his lives.
"....That my friend, is what you'll never be." The Devil said after a moment of silence.
His eyes disappeared, and so did the world around him. What remained however was simply a voice echoing in void.
"I thought you were ready, but you're not. - You haven't suffered enough." The Devil's voice came from a distance, becoming slower and slower.
"But since you're so stubborn to forge your own path, I'll give you a chance."
"I'll leave you alone. … Until the moment you realize the truth, and call me yourself."
—-----
As those words ended, Rio found himself back in his room. His body refreshed and his soul recovered. The feeling of helplessness, of the devil's presence _ it all disappeared.
"He's gone." He muttered, feeling a little lost.
[.... He is.] The system replied in approval. Speaking to him for the first time after the confrontation at the devil's throne.

"
…
"
System tried to pitch an idea for some expensive skill shopping, unaware the memories it's words triggered in Rio's mind.
Memories about the voices he heard when he was trapped on the planet all alone, weak and wounded,.. whenever he was on the verge of collapse and death.
Flashback of the dungeon
*** A young Rio, laying on the corpses of monsters without any movement. His body, covered in blood from head to toe, not sure to whom it belonged to. His calloused hands, hanging limp on the side with swords still tied to his wrists by some thin rope.
A sharp white object grew visible from his stomach, ripping the skin and muscles along the way as it came out.
Rio winced in pain as a dead monster from down, came alive again through the sun's healing and stabbed him.
Without any complaint or confusion, Rio just raised his feet and then stomped down heavily, blasting the poor fellow to pieces, raining its organs all around him.
"Just nother day in hell." He mumbled to himself while staring at the red sun in the sky getting blurry.
"Fuck." Rio cursed as he found that the fucking teeth probably had some kind of poison on it. And how smoothly it was now spreading all in his body.
But before he lost consciousness completely, the voice in his head appeared again.
(So you're going to die.. Again.. Tell me, how does that feel?)
"I'm not dying.. I_ I just have to hold on_ till_ "
(And here we go with the same old excuses, till Nyx gets me out. Mother and Father comes to my rescue. The system wakes up… and blah blah blah… ) The voice mocked his reasoning.
(Tell me, when did the guy who swore never to trust anyone else ever again, became so foolish to put his faith in so so many selfish people.)
"Shut up." Rio shouted angrily, "They're not selfish. They love me."
(Love humm, now isn't that something which caused all this to begin with… )
(Tell me, where is everyone?.. humm, Anyone?.. It's been 18 months and there's not a single sign of anyone even looking for you. And yet here you are, wasting your life, hoping for mercy…)
"....."
(No one loves you, Rio.) The voice spoke, (Not the REAL you.. Nor your parents, your sister, or your Shweta_ that was her name, right?)
"SHUT UP." Rio shouted, "What do you know about love huh? You're not even real. You're just an illusion. A hallucination. A stupid voice in my ears that my mind made up to keep me awake."
"So shut the fuck up."
But in response to his outburst, The voice just started chuckling.
(If I am what you made. Then isn't what I'm speaking, something that you think yourself? Huh, haha hahaa hahaha)
"Shut up, shut up, shuuutt upppppp." Rio shouted , his curses silencing the voice.
"...I _ I just have to survive. freewebnøvel_com
That's all.
I
can't die.
Not here, not like this. I _ I just need to - have to - hold on."
Rio started mumbling to himself, trying to inject hope in his heart, only for the voice to feed him poison again.
(But how? How will you hold on?)
(You have no food, no drinks, no potions, and no pills.) The voice echoed again, this time closer to his ears, (No one's coming to save you. Just like no one came before…. So listen to me and accept your reality. Accept your darkness.)
(Give in to your hunger and get the power to rule this wasteland. - We don't need anyone to rescue us. We can just make our own way.)
"... I would never eat them." Rio said, refusing the proposal the voice's been suggesting for a long time.
He couldn't eat the monster corpses anymore, as EMMSY had filled his body with radiation already, so the voices had been tailng him to eat the human corpses he stored in his ring.
Of the friends, of the classmates, and of nobles whom he wanted to turn into undead puppets or exchange favors for.
(I'm not asking you to eat their bodies, just their cores.) The voice changed his words, (Their cores holds all the mana, that'll give you enough strength to survive.)
"...Just their cores." Rio muttered, finally giving in to his hunger, and making a sacrifice on morality.
.. –... —...
After a month
(Just their blood. It's enrich with mana.)
"Just their blood."
.. –... —...
Then next and next and next ...
(Just their bones.)
(Just their heart.)
"Just their brain"
.. –... —...
(You already ate everything so… .)
. … .
[ _ooo, _iooo, Rio WAKE UP.]
The system's worried voice echoed in Rio's mind, and he woke up with a gasp. His back wet with sweat and shock written all over his face.
( .... Hehehe)
