Chapter 43: Village Taxes

"Shareholders, Esteemed guests, ladies and gentlemen, my beloved Geldhan villagers, welcome to our first SHD Meeting!"

Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap~

The encore was thunderous.

Frosh Shield was proud to see his daughter as the key host for today’s event.

Hey, the young truly grow fast.

Katrina smiled. "Good afternoon, everyone, and a big thank you all for joining us today for the GF WorldTech Agriculture SHD Meeting."

Katrina’s voice was audible and very inviting. "It’s great to see both familiar faces and new ones. I know most of you came for one important reason. However, before we dive into the numbers, I’d like to introduce our key speakers for today."

Katrina began with Uncle Rufung. Even he didn’t know that he would be a main figure in her speech. "Many of you may know this person, but he is Rufung xxx, our Chief Security Officer, who has been instrumental in keeping not just our Company safe, but the village as well."

Rufung stood and waved, causing several people to clap vigorously.

"Hahahahaha~... that’s my neighbor. That’s the famous Rufung!" A few whispered.

His wife, Mina, and his son, Rutang, couldn’t stop clapping. They have never been prouder. Their shoulders subconsciously went high, feeling a sense of true belonging to Geldhan village. Don’t forget that before moving here, Rufung was an outsider.

Up next, Katrina introduced everyone with top positions in the company. But she didn’t stop there. She called out all buyers, thanking them, as well as Mayer Akin.

’Can I say I approved for the company to be built without thinking much of it?’ Mayor Akin waved embarrassingly.

"Now, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage, Gort—the Founder, Chairman and acting President of GF WorldTech Agriculture Group!"

At this point, everyone stood up clapping as though their lives depended on it. Yet, there was overflowing gratitude in their eyes.

Gort had a well tailored suit on with a smile that was more intimate that what he uses when speaking to outsiders.

Khalea and several guests raised their brows, looking deeply at this once-in-a-billion year genius casually walking to the podium.

He had said nothing yet, but his confidence was evidence for anyone to see.

"Uncles, Aunties, brothers, sisters, cousins, friends... my dear shareholders, buyers, guests, my Geldhan villagers... You United we stand, divided we fall."

"That is my greatest line from history, I’ve loved to repeat."

Several children and adults murmured those words, listening to Gort as though listening to scriptures from Buddha himself.

"Although established barely a few weeks ago, our yields are astronomical. What does this mean?"

"It shows that there is power in unity, and I couldn’t have done it on my own."

Gort paused, sweeping his gaze across the massive gathering of people. "It’s just a few weeks since we started, and our company has already completed orders from across the country worth 3.5 billion. And we have much more in the pipeline too."

WHAT? 3.5 MILLION?

Hiss~

Hearing it for themselves, several people sucked in air in disbelief. Some held their loved ones so tightly they were almost strangling them without knowing it.

Gort chuckled softly. "Congratulations, you are all millionaires."

Boom!

Something broke without many, and they suddenly felt dazed by how easy it was to get rich.

Could it be that all they needed was a super genius, all along?

After the initial shock came boundless excitement.

Bah-hah... Bahahahaahahah~

"Rich, rich, rich I tell yah! They were all bloody rich!"

The thunderous claps bombarded everyone’s ears.

In the history of humankind, no one has ever done what Gort had done –Turning a majority of the villagers to millionaires in one go.

Payne smiled, Erin laughed and even Khelt Kin and his military buddies were happy for these people.

How can someone like this betray his country for a chance to live in any of the Big 3 countries? Payne was right. This Gort had potential, and they must protect him at all costs. This time, they must stand against any more advances made by the Big 3.

It’s just that now that he publicly turned the Big 3 down, things won’t be so simple anymore. They feared this village might be attacked sooner than expected.

...

"Everyone, let’s start by reflecting on the company’s current achievements." Gort continued. "Despite challenges in the local markets, we’ve had a successful period thanks to our buyers, dedicated team and our incredible products!"

Yup. Everyone nodded, including the Buyers.

In truth, the project itself did all the marketing. Its benefits were too obvious for even a blind man to see. So it will never be a loss working with it

"As many of you might have noticed, we’ve expanded our crop lines and built new branch facilities to boost yields."

"Now, let’s talk about a few decisions made and voted on earlier, during our first meeting when the company had just started."

Yes, yes... they all remembered! They all agreed that everyone would pay Village Taxes!

—And if you’re wondering if they regret agreeing to these taxes, the answer was NO.

Why should they reject something that would obviously benefit them in the long run?
