Chapter 5: The Awakening Ceremony Begins

DONGARD CITY AWAKENING HALL

The large words were written over a tower-like building whose tips disappeared into the sky.

Crowds of people, mostly young, poured through the large golden gates, and one of them was a white-haired figure, dressed in a simple shirt and trousers.

This was White, and he stepped into the large golden gates.

Inside the tower was a large football-sized stadium.

Seats spiraled into the sky, numbering in thousands, and at the center was an altar as high as three meters, the size of a large room.

There were six seats upon this altar with their surface covered in golden runes, but what caught White’s eye were the three large balls floating before these six seats.

Those were the Awakening Orbs capable of revealing each person’s dormant power.

As for the seats, they belonged to officials of the three academies, with two per academy official.

Each person’s awakening would be conducted before them, and they would record it.

Some would be lucky enough to get instant admission, by getting chosen by them, while some will only get the invitation much later...or maybe never at all, for those with low-ranked awakenings.

White knew today determined everything, most especially of him.

If he stepped onto that stage like everyone else, he would be deemed a failure, an anomaly, and would never get an invitation to the school.

The fate that awaited him after that would be dire.

He needed to be able to copy an awakening soul before that happened, and who else but the person he already knew would awaken a powerful awakening soul?

Of course, it was Lykoan.

So, instead of taking a random seat as he had done in the past, his eyes surveyed the entire hall, and soon enough, he caught sight of Lykoan, but the boy wasn’t alone.

He sat higher up in the seats, and all around him were 7 men in black suits that failed to hide their powerful bodies fully.

They watched the crowd like hawks, eyes kept sharp, and he noticed people who sat too close had one of the guards walk over to them, and soon enough, they would quietly leave their seats, choosing another.

"This’ll be more difficult than I thought..."

White mused quietly. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

While he remembered vividly that there were three S-ranked awakeners, he had no idea who they were, apart from Lykoan.

After his grade was determined to be B-rank, and he was turned down by the officials from MutantGnomes, his dream school, he angrily turned his back and left the awakening hall.

Only a week later did he receive the invitation from the United Earth Federation, and, within the United Earth Federation, he learned that there had been three S-ranked awakenings in his city, Dongard.

That created a sort of dilemma.

He looked at Lykoan, who seemed the obvious choice, but in the end, he didn’t approach.

With the number of guards surrounding him, even if they were friends, he still wouldn’t be allowed near him and would only draw unnecessary attention that might impede him later.

So, he moved higher up, taking a seat that let him monitor the awakening orbs.

’Since there’s no personal name-calling or rank, all I need is patience.’

’The S-ranked awakeners will be revealed soon, and before they join the officials, I can sneak up to them and copy.’

He formed a mini plan in his head, falling silent and watching as the stadium continued to fill up.

After a while, there were no more new entrances, and the golden doors slowly shut.

10 minutes after that, a change happened that instantly silenced all the murmurs in the stadium, leaving everyone in silence.

’They’re here....’

______

One moment, noises and murmurs filled the air, and in the next, unnatural silence crawled upon the world.

White’s eyes moved, noticing that some people were still moving their mouths, yet no words were being uttered.

They clenched their throats in confusion, looking around them, but before panic of losing their voice set in, something else appeared that drew their attention.

CRAAACK!

It was the sound of a mirror cracking into pieces, and White snapped his gaze up, above the altar.

Right there, one could see space itself suddenly cracking into pieces, and a tiny black vortex formed within it.

It was barely a second later when a massive palm, wearing a golden gauntlet, tore out, grabbing the edge of the vortex.

In the next moment, it pulled hard, the sound of glass shattering becoming deafening, as the vortex expanded.

A figure stepped through after, and another person followed.

Awe was displayed in the face of the crowds, but White’s face was deadpan.

’MutantGnomes Officials...’

There were two men, but they looked like mini-titans.

Their bodies were seemingly a mountain of thick muscle, like statues of Greek gods, bare-chested and radiating a wild aura of power.

Each was two meters in height, easily towering above the tallest in the hall, and they landed upon the altar with a ferocious BOOM!

But they had yet to take a seat when all of a sudden, light disappeared from the world.

The entire hall was reduced to pitch darkness, and a glittering light suddenly bloomed from the center of the altar.

Space fractured beautifully, fragments of space raining down, reflecting glittering lights upon the crowd.

What came next was the manifestation of a blue-colored door.

It opened up quietly, and two women stepped out, drawing the entire hall’s attention.

They were fair-skinned and as beautiful as celestials, one with long pink hair that poured down her shoulders like a waterfall, while the other possessed long white hair, perfectly framing their glass-like face.

"XtremeCybers Officials."

Without looking at the crowds, they silently took two of the remaining four seats and waited.

Light returned to the world after they took their seats, and all of a sudden.

GRUUUUUUUM!

The heavy doors opening echoed through the hall as all eyes turned to the entrance.

The door that had shut close before had been opened, and two figures dressed in military uniform stepped in.

One was a bulky-looking man, face as hard as steel, in a military uniform, while the other was a lady who couldn’t be older than 25, with long, luscious, dark hair, half her face hidden beneath the army cap she wore.

They walked all the way from the exit to the altar before jumping up, soaring an easy three meters onto the altar in a single leap, before taking their seats.

"United Earth Federation Officials."

They had come in like ordinary people, with no extraordinary displays of power like the rest of the other schools.

The Man from the United Earth Federation soon rose, turned to the crowd, and spoke an order that echoed clearly through the entire hall.

"Let the Awakening Ceremony Begin!"

There were no second thoughts.

Students immediately stepped forward, hoping to make an impression first.

Hands touched the Orbs as the awakenings were recited aloud by the officials.

Claps resonated for those with higher awakenings, but White couldn’t hear them.

His ears were tuned to listen for a single word, and soon enough, he heard it being called.

A powerful light that was as bright as the sun, blinding most, and the Officials’ voice filled with disbelief.

"S-Rank Awakening! Physically Enhanced Ability!"

An uproar erupted through the hall, and the corner of White’s mouth curved up.

"Found One..."
