Legendary Awakening: Strongest Class In the Apocalypse-Chapter 55: Lich King Seal, Danger
Zerin, Jack, and Rufus cleared the nearby goblins in short order, leaving the battlefield around them open and eerily quiet.
Xavier was still focused on searching for that mysterious woman, so he didn’t notice that the Undead Chimera’s gigantic corpse was behaving in a strange way. The threads of undead energy that had been tethering together hundreds of goblin corpses slowly loosened, their retreat deliberate and subtle, causing almost no disturbance.
Even though the distance between Xavier and the chimera’s body wasn’t that great, he still failed to notice anything, enhanced senses or not.
Suddenly, Xavier’s eyes turned alert.
Just a moment ago, he had felt someone looking at him, but when he turned around there was nothing—except the cold and dull corpse of the Undead Chimera.
"Huh... was I imagining things?"
This question had barely surfaced in his mind when he saw a blur shooting in his direction.
Instinctively, Xavier raised his right arm in front of his face to defend against the unknown danger. The next moment, a chilling sensation spread through that arm.
Although he had reacted fast, it was still too late. A three‑foot‑long pitch‑black arrow had managed to pierce deep into his right hand, coming out from the other side.
The over four hundred points in health did nothing to stop the arrow.
Strangely, even though his hand was run through, not even a single drop of blood fell to the ground.
By this time, Xavier finally realized what had happened, and alarm bells went off in his head.
"An arrow made from undead energy..."
Just as he was thinking this, the space around him rippled and a system message flashed before his eyes.
[Warning! You have been marked by Lich King, Rokos the Terrifying.]
This sudden change not only caught Xavier off guard, it also made Zerin—who was fighting in the distance—snap her head toward him sharply.
A slightly confused look flickered across her beautiful face.
"What was that...?"
Through the connection she shared with Xavier, Zerin could clearly feel the pressure of an Undead Mark.
Ignoring everyone else, Zerin took one step forward and walked closer from the shadow cast by a large tree in the distance.
Xavier didn’t react to her arrival at first, his eyes still focused on the mark of undead energy. But when he noticed how solemnly Zerin was staring at his hand, he couldn’t stop himself from asking, one eyebrow raised:
"You know something. What is this?"
There was silence for a moment as Zerin didn’t immediately answer. Her long dark hair danced in the wind like flowing ink as she grabbed his hand and started examining the undead energy slowly dissolving into a slimy, gooey‑like liquid, forming a triangular seal on the back of Xavier’s right hand. With each passing moment, the seal pulsed, as if feeding on his blood and mana, growing stronger over time.
Xavier didn’t disturb her when he saw the look of utmost seriousness on her face.
Finally, after another breath of time, Zerin muttered in a low voice:
"Lich King’s Vitality‑Devouring Seal. A common skill of Second Sequence Lich King. The seal will continue to absorb the vitality of the victim until either the target dies or something happens to the caster."
Zerin might have weakened because of the familiar contract, but her vast ocean of experience hadn’t faded away. With just one look she had fully understand what had happened.
Listening to her words, Xavier’s heart chilled.
No wonder he’d been feeling slightly weak after being hit by the arrow. At first he’d thought it was due to the injury, but now it seemed there was something completely different at play. Judging from what she’d said, if he wanted to get rid of the seal he needed to kill the lich.
His thoughts spun at lightning speed, dissecting every single one of her words to extract as much information as possible. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Only after he had figured out both the problem and the solution did his heart calm down.
Thinking up to this point, he looked around and muttered out loud:
"Where is the Lich King?"
Zerin heard his question and her gaze shifted upward, to the long green portal reflected in her smoky eyes.
"It seems whoever is behind this seal is not stupid. They know crossing over will weaken them. The lich didn’t come to this world but sent its army to explore first..."
Xavier’s eyes flickered with doubt.
"So the lich is on the other side of this portal... If I want to deal with the seal, I’ll have to travel to the other side."
This was risky.
If Xavier could see this, how could Zerin not?
"Do you think we have a choice in this matter?" Zerin’s face grew more solemn with each passing moment.
She had a feeling whoever their opponent was, it was extremely cunning. After thinking for a moment, she could roughly guess what the monster was actually planning.
"What do you mean? Explain clearly." This was the first time Xavier had seen Zerin so serious.
At his question, Zerin shook her head lightly.
"You might not know, but this kind of Lich‑King seal is most commonly used by liches to prepare a body for them to possess. Once the seal completely drains away your vitality, the lich will be able to transport its soul into your body from the other world—thereby avoiding any risk of crossing over personally."
"Moreover, we don’t have much time either. As time passes, the speed at which the seal absorbs your vitality will also increase."
"This is what I meant when I said we have no choice in this matter."
Xavier’s expression turned dark as charcoal. He knew Zerin wasn’t lying.
However, even if he used the portal to cross into the other world—how would he even return?
Zerin shook her head, almost exasperated.
"Really... this is what you’re worried about?"
"If you stay here, you will definitely die. You need to reach at least Second Sequence to get rid of the Lich King’s seal—there is no other way."
"As for your concern about how you’re going to return, don’t worry. I have a solution for that problem."
Hearing her claim, Xavier couldn’t stop himself from looking at her suspiciously.
Why was she suddenly being so reliable?
