Chapter 48: Mysterious Girl and portal

Xavier jumped up and down to avoid the danger. Although he was not a battle genius, common sense told him something.

"I need to close the distance between myself and the corrupted goblin mages."

Xavier’s eyes flashed with sharp light. Although with Deathwill aura bonuses his speed was already insanely high as his agility was over hundred, even then Xavier used Spatial Axis Shift. The gravity which was holding him became his launch pad. Every time he jumped upward, Xavier would shift the spatial axis to help him gain even more distance. While falling down, he would reverse the axis back to their original direction.

Bang! A subdued explosion echoed as Xavier’s body was launched almost ten meters up in the air like a projectile. The wind brushed past his blood-soaked cheeks, gently caressing his skin. From such a height, he could look far into the distance. While examining, Xavier froze. As far as his eyes could see, a sea of goblins greeted his vision. His earlier slaughter seemed to have done nothing.

Just as he was thinking how that was possible, in the distance he noticed something: a green pulsing portal the size of a normal football field constantly spewing out goblins.

For a brief moment, he even felt the aura of a First Sequence Goblin King!

"What is going on? Where did this portal suddenly pop out from?"

Xavier was sure as hell there was no such portal when the battle began.

As he was observing, Xavier’s eyes narrowed to slits. The distance between him and the portal was too far, so he wasn’t able to see everything clearly, but in the distance he noticed a figure—a white-haired woman fighting a goblin king. The fact that she was not instantly butchered made it clear she was no ordinary woman.

After another look, Xavier shook his head to focus on the matter at hand. His body was falling toward the ground at high speed. Taking a deep breath, he tightened his grip on the Warden Ruinblade and immediately started slaughtering once he was directly in between the goblin mages.

...

"This can’t be real..."

Princess Evelyn’s face was pale as paper. Her mind had finally managed to process just what had exactly happened. She had lost more than one-third of her precious soldiers instantly.

This cold, bitter reality made her realize she was stubbornly fighting a battle that she couldn’t win.

"If we continue fighting like this, my people will continue to die..."

While thinking up to this point, her gaze shifted toward Xavier’s figure soaring through the air as if gravity didn’t exist.

This sight made her realize this battlefield wasn’t for the ordinary!

With that thought in mind, Princess Evelyn’s eyes flashed with a decisive light.

"My people, fall back! We have had enough casualties. Everyone start retreating back..."

Sunark’s eyes widened in shock. "Big sister, we can’t retreat now after losing so many precious soldiers. If we retreat now, what was the point of fighting all this while...?"

The look in Evelyn’s eyes hardened. She looked at Sunark with the grace of a future queen and coldly said, "Sunark, my brother, times have changed. As a warrior, if you can’t adapt to the changes, only destruction awaits you..."

"But...?" Sunark’s face was red as a tomato. He wanted to continue arguing, but before he could speak another word, Evelyn completely cut him off.

"No buts. Rally all the troops back to the Bloodmancer Temple..."

Commander Brutus moved through the wooden soldiers. Once he heard Evelyn’s words, his eyes immediately lit up in joy.

Thankfully the situation might be terrible, but at least they had a wise leader to realize what as truly important.

Brutus’s thoughts were no different than Evelyn’s. Although as a warrior he wanted to continue fighting, however not when the cost was the extinction of entire race.

"Everyone, retreat! Return to the Bloodmancer Temple!

"Help the wounded...

"Brother, just leave me here to die. Just go alone..." An elven soldier who had lost both of his legs under the sudden attack said with despair on his face.

A young soldier who was carrying him on his back felt his heart shake. Just a minute ago they were laughing and talking, and now what had the situation become?

In one corner of the battlefield, Millie hurriedly uncorked the healing potion and emptied the contents inside Jackie’s mouth.

The magical attack came so fast and sudden that most failed to react. Even if they managed to react, it was too late.

This was what happened with Jackie. By the time she sensed something was wrong, it was too late. A sharp stone spear managed to pierce through her stomach, blood bursting out like a fountain.

Jackie felt the warm, slightly sweet liquid slide down her throat. Her blurry vision slowly returned to normal. The first thing she saw was Millie looking at her with a face full of concern.

When Millie saw color finally returning to Jackie’s face, her face lit up, letting out a sigh of relief. "Thankfully you are safe. For a moment I thought we lost you, Jackie..."

Hearing the genuine concern on her face, Jackie’s heart shook. Her mouth slightly parted; she wanted to say something, but before she could say anything,

Millie hurriedly got up, placed a hand over her mouth. "Don’t say anything. Rest until your injury recovers. Let me take you back to the Bloodmancer Temple..."

After that, Jackie didn’t say anything but slowly moved with Millie’s help.

...

At this point, most were either already behind the walls, completely abandoning the battlefield, or were in the process of retreat.

During this entire time, no one paid attention to Xavier.

In the corner of his vision, Xavier noticed everyone slowly disappearing one by one.

Although he had no intention of retreating, for some reason his face turned slightly complicated.

At least a single person could have asked him...!

No wonder it felt lonely to be at the top.

Just as he was thinking, the corrupted goblins circled around him and chanted some mysterious spell.

The mana churning in the surroundings suddenly went up, slowly concentrating and exploding to form large balls of fire raining toward Xavier.

Sensing the danger, Xavier shook his head to get rid of unnecessary thoughts.

The space around him twisted and warped like a piece of cloth. The over-dozen fireballs which were homing towards him like lock-on suddenly turned in the opposite direction, hitting the goblins which had cast the spell.

BOOM! An explosion echoed as the fireball exploded into a fiery explosion of heat, burning multiple goblins to nothingness.
