Beep... Beep... Beep...

Loud beeping noises had filled the cockpit, as if reminding Elias that the situation was more dire than he had initially thought. They didn’t even have enough fuel to even slow down their descent. They were truly going to crash.

"Not sure about you, but I might truly die," Elias told the ego, watching the surface getting closer at a frightening speed.

"F*ck. I couldn’t even enjoy the freedom properly and I’m going to die. Waaah! Why is my luck so f*cked up?" The ego started complaining, almost sounding like it was crying.

Elias didn’t even know how to react to these words. Shouldn’t he be the one panicking? The ego was connected to the jet. As long as even the smallest part of it existed, the ego was probably going to survive. He was different. He would be crushed.

"Open the cockpit, I have to try something," he exclaimed, as he started opening the seat harness to free himself. He couldn’t stay here and wait for death. He had to survive, and protect this jet.

"I..." The ego started stuttering, before going completely silent.

"Don’t tell me you can’t open that either?" Elias started rubbing his forehead, as the realization started setting in. Everything that could go wrong, had started going wrong.

He clenched his fist, and punched the glass, trying to break it so he could get out. But no matter how strong his bones were, his strength wasn’t enough to break the glass that was reinforced with the Starlight Glass of the watch.

Even if it was only a small piece of Starlight Glass, when merged with the glass of normal fighter jets, it still created something stronger.

Normally, it was supposed to be a good thing as it provided him more security when he was inside. But that same advantage had become shackles for him.

Elias had no other choice but to go with the most drastic option, the success if which wasn’t certain.

"I’m going to extract! The storm might slow our descent and protect us to some extent. It’s going to hurt!" he exclaimed, as the jet was merely tens of kilometres away from hitting the ground.

"What?!" The ego exclaimed in shock as Elias placed his hand on the deck.

"Confirm-"

"Wait! Stop!" The ego screamed louder, as the roaring sound of the engine echoed inside the cockpit. The front side of the fighter jet started rising, as if it was returning to control.

On the ground, there was a small pond, in which a woman was bathing. Next to the pond, there was a heavy sword that was at least ten feet long. Just looking at the sword made it look like it was almost impossible for an ordinary human to even pick it up, even if they were to put all their strength into it.

The woman was immersed in her bath, when she felt the winds becoming stronger. She didn’t think much of it, until she heard something strange. She also felt something approaching her.

Frowning, she raised her head, and saw an unknown metallic object coming straight for the pond. She quickly jumped out of the pond, revealing her bare skin.

She rushed to the sword, but before she could grab it, a rush of water came flying out of the pond, accompanied by intense wind pressure.

The fighter jet had also slowed down, and regained its balance. It was merely a hundred meters away from the ground when it turned straight, and rushed ahead, leaving a trail of lightning behind.

"It was not an attack on me?" the woman mumbled, as she held the sword even as droplets of water trickled down her body. "What a strange bird."

She lowered her sword, and didn’t attack. The space that had started to break apart the moment she held her sword, started healing when she dropped her intentions of attacking.

...

Meanwhile, inside the fighter jet, Elias was also at a loss for words.

"What does this mean?!" he asked his ego, as the fuel gauge rose, reaching the halfway mark. Did the ego learn to convert lightning into fuel? But that was unlikely. It could only mean one thing.

They never ran out of fuel! The ego was messing with him, pulling a trick that had almost frightened him to death. He had never felt as angry in his life as he did now.

The Ego had not only lied to him, but also manipulated the fuel gauge to make him believe that they were really out of fuel.

"Did you find it funny?!" he roared, finally losing his temper, which was a rare sight.

"I... I just wanted to-" the ego tried speaking but it wasn’t even allowed to finish its sentence.

Elias cut him mid-sentence, raging, "Return before I start dismantling you!"

He had thought about maintaining a friendly relationship with the ego, but it was taking such unfair advantage of his kindness?

Only he knew how many thoughts he had gone through in these last few moments, almost scared that he might die before he could even finish taking his revenge.

The ego wanted to apologise, but it couldn’t utter a single word, scared that it might upset Elias even more. It swallowed its words, and went silent, feeling extreme guilt over its actions.

The fighter jet returned to the Beast of Decay from behind, and landed on top.

Elias jumped out of the cockpit after it opened, not saying a single word to the ego. Initially it wanted to ask the ego to protect him when he was going through his evolution, but he didn’t do that anymore.

He simply walked away, still furious and filled with a multitude of emotions that he had tried to suppress, ever since he had woken up in the upper world.

"I was wrong..." the ego mumbled, watching Elias leave. But Elias couldn’t hear it, as he wasn’t in physical contact with the fighter jet.

Elias sat down, far away from the fighter jet. He pulled out the Growth Stone, and consumed it right away even if his mental state wasn’t perfect for it.
