Chapter 87: Leinster House

Louis followed Zane’s sports car as it sped toward the elite residential area at the top of the hill. The area was very quiet, with rows of multi-story houses enclosed by high fences.

Zane’s house was located higher up, past an empty lot.

Nathan stared at the black gate where Zane’s car stopped. A few moments later, the gate opened, and Zane got out of his car and headed toward Nathan’s.

What’s going on? Nathan thought.

Zane knocked on the car window, and Nathan opened it immediately. "What’s wrong?"

"Come with me. He’ll stay here. It’s better for you to go in my car than to walk."

Nathan didn’t understand. He could walk, and it wasn’t a problem for him. But he nodded anyway.

Louis looked at Nathan. "I’ll be right here at the gate, Nathan. Just tell me when you’re done."

"You don’t have to wait for me here. I’ll call you when I’m done. You should enjoy your time," Nathan said, not wanting to bore the man with waiting.

But Louis knew better than to let his boss’s younger brother go completely unattended. He worried it would be difficult to contact him if Nathan needed something urgent.

Nathan got into Zane’s car. He was quite surprised to see the clean interior. And it smelled nice.

Unlike Louis’s car.

Zane cleared his throat nervously and started the engine. He smirked slightly when he saw Nathan looking at the condition of his car. He didn’t say that he had sprayed perfume inside.

"Why don’t you bring your own car?" Zane asked as he entered through the gate.

"My brother won’t let me."

"So lame."

Nathan clicked his tongue. "Besides, you’ll get fined if the police find out you’re underage."

"As long as they don’t find out." Besides, they would just let him go if they knew who his father was.

Nathan understood why Zane had asked him to get into the car, because after passing through the gate they had to drive quite a distance before finally seeing a magnificent house.

Unlike the Salazar mansion, which looked like a prehistoric building, Zane’s house looked modern, made mostly of glass.

Zane immediately drove into the garage and saw several cars parked there. Nathan was no longer surprised. At his brother’s house, there were even more cars parked in the garage, and he didn’t understand why they needed so many.

"Let’s just go straight to my room," Zane muttered. He had spent quite a long time cleaning every corner of it.

As they crossed the threshold, the sound of a bouncing basketball echoed off the marble floors. They turned their heads.

David appeared, dressed in a red-and-white basketball jersey, a ball tucked under his arm. He looked vibrant and athletic. He was quite surprised to see Nathan there.

Zane’s jaw tightened, his eyes narrowing. He turned and walked toward the hallway leading to the living room.

David didn’t stop. As he passed Nathan, he lunged slightly to the side, his heavy shoulder slamming into Nathan’s chest with deliberate, hidden force. He smirked.

Nathan’s shoes hissed against the marble as he slid back, his reflexes kicking in. He didn’t fall, but his eyes flared with fire. He turned, his hand already balling into a fist.

"You again. Do you have a problem with your eyes, or just your legs?" Nathan snapped, his voice echoing through the corridor. He didn’t care that he wasn’t at his home right now.

David stopped, spinning the ball on his finger with a mocking grin. He didn’t look at Nathan, he looked at Zane. "I didn’t know you were friends with an orphan, Zane."

Zane stared intently, walking closer and standing in front of Nathan, his voice trembling with a cold, suppressed rage he rarely showed. "Behave yourself."

David’s grin widened, but his eyes were bitter. "Finally... you talk to me."

Nathan knew he didn’t like the boy from the start. He thought David was just too harsh, but now he felt the boy deserved to be slapped. His words were really annoying.

Before Nathan could speak, another voice was heard.

"David? What is all this noise?"

A woman appeared from the living room. Marie, Zane’s stepmother, looked down at them with the practiced disdain of a queen looking at a peasant. She was draped in silk, her eyes immediately locking onto Nathan.

She knew one of the Salazar children was coming today to study with Zane. She was quite curious, because David had told her it was the same child who had caused trouble in the cafeteria.

Marie walked closer. She didn’t look at Zane. She walked straight up to Nathan, stopping just outside his personal space.

"So, you are Nathan Salazar?" Marie asked.

Nathan nodded, warily watching the woman’s strange gaze.

"Well, finally Zane has a study partner. You two should study hard. But I want to know, why did you cause trouble with David? You know that’s not a good thing, right? Bullying other people? Even though your family is rich?" Marie said softly, her smile gentle.

Nathan frowned. "I didn’t bully him."

Marie pressed a hand to Nathan’s shoulder. "Whatever it was, don’t do it again, okay?" Her voice sounded stern even though her smile didn’t fade. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Nathan had always known to avoid people like this woman. He never knew what they intended behind their beautiful faces and gentle words.

Zane let out a heavy, exhausted sigh, feeling embarrassed. "Can you stop talking nonsense, please? He is here to study."

Marie smiled. "Sure, honey. I’ll prepare food for both of you."

Before Marie could walk away, Nathan stopped her.

"I’m sorry, ma’am," Nathan said, his voice deceptively calm. "I don’t know why you’re talking to me like I’m the one who made a mistake here. I didn’t do anything wrong. Your son is the one who needs a lesson in respect. He throws food on the floor like a toddler. I’m not sure you’d allow that if you were there."

Marie was surprised by Nathan’s boldness. Her hand lifted slightly, as if she were tempted to slap the words out of his mouth.
