Last Ruler Of The Empty Throne-Chapter 145: Battle against Sea creatures II
The people who had just been badmouthing her stood in stunned silence.
Wasn’t she just a level 12 girl?
How did she do it?
These questions spiraled in their minds. But they didn’t have the luxury to dwell on them. The battle raged on, and hesitation could get them killed.
"UNDERGROUND, WITH ME!" Victor’s voice roared across the battlefield like a war drum.
His voice wasn’t ordinary. The moment the sound pierced the air, the sea creatures in front of him froze mid-motion, and his allies surged with vigor.
Titan’s Roar. Using 20 Mana Points, he could temporarily paralyze his enemies within a 15-meter radius and boost the morale and vigor of his allies.
Without waiting for his squad to close in, Victor slammed his palm into the ground. Jagged earthen spikes erupted and impaled the nearest sea creatures, hoisting their writhing bodies into the air.
Ignoring the stream of notifications flooding his vision, he dashed forward. Another heavy stomp, and seismic shockwaves threw creatures off balance. Whirling earth drills erupted from the ground as he carved a path of devastation.
"W-Who is he?" the mayor stammered, eyes wide. He had never seen Victor before.
But the thought was fleeting. He knew he was a moral support in this battle, he had to push till the end.
"JOIN THEM! ATTACK!!" he shouted, drawing his weapon and plunging into the chaos.
AHHHHHHHHH!!!
The soldiers pulled their injured away from the frontline, leaving the evolvers to battle.
Like that, a full-scale attack began.
Laura didn’t stop.
She didn’t need to.
"Just one more," she muttered, her expression calm, serene, even.
She ignored the first realm and unranked creatures. Her eyes locked onto a true threat: a second realm sea serpent.
’I already spent 300 points to kill that one,’ she recalled.
But she knew she had the advantage back then:
The jellyfish had only just stepped into the second realm, specifically a level 52. Meaning it was just getting used to its abilities. Another was the fact the enemy had been caught off guard.
However, none of those conditions applied now.
This one was a level 56 sea serpent. It towered twice her height, glowing with a deep marine aura, its blue eyes like daggers of frozen seawater.
Without a warning hiss, it opened its jaws and fired a condensed water orb.
"Stormborn!"
She quickly activated, and the wind howled. Her body blurred to the side, narrowly escaping the projectile.
BOOOOM!
The ground behind her exploded into debris.
There was no time to look because another attack was incoming. She raised both arms and growled:
"Flash Freeze!"
The amount of mana points it consumed was large, however, its effect was satisfying. The temperature around the serpent rapidly dropped as ice coated its scales, slowing its movement.
She didn’t waste the opening.
"Hurricane Pulse!"
Wind surged violently from her body, blasting the slowed serpent away.
From her waist, she drew two strange guns. The guns were empty inside, like hollow curved tubes. But their emptiness was deceptive.
"One Shot."
Her skill infused the weapons with magical force. Six rapid shots echoed.
The glowing bullets struck true.
RAAAARRRGH!
The serpent let out a sky-ripping screech, blood bursting from its wounds. It writhed in agony, smashing through buildings and other monsters.
Laura braced herself.
’Still not dead?’
As Laura was thinking of pushing one last time, the serpent roared, locking its hate-filled gaze on her.
It forgot its skills, tactics and charged at her.
’What?’ She immediately activated Stormborn and began retreating.
Bang. Bang.
The serpent knocked down buildings, sea creatures, and even swatted evolvers away as it focused its deathly gaze on Laura
If it reached her, it was over.
She gritted her teeth and reached for a treasure, Gale Talisman. It didn’t do much, just enhanced wind-based movement and reduced air resistance, increasing agility.
Whoosh!
She accelerated, widening the distance between them.
In seconds, she gained a 400-meter gap, leading the serpent away from the main battlefield.
Then, she skidded to a stop, turned, and raised one hand to the sky.
Rumble...
Rarrrrr...
The serpent slowed, instinctively remembering the lightning strike that killed its kin.
However,
"Flash Freeze!" she declared again.
She uttered the same words that slowed its movements previously with her second hand. Then, her favorite treasure, her crown, shimmered with light, and stronger lightning gathered.
RAAARRRRRRR...
The serpent screamed to shake off the slowed movement; however,
BOOOOOOOOOOOM!
Everything shook as smoke and frost filled the air.
Laura exhaled heavily, reaching for another treasure: Heartstone Amulet.
Upon activation, her stamina recovered faster, and it reduced fatigue.
"Phew..."
She took several deep breaths, her gaze searching for the serpent’s corpse.
But before she could confirm the kill, her vision went dark, leaving only a notification.
[YOU ARE EVOLVING TO THE SECOND REALM]
...
Meanwhile, the battlefield churned with blood and fury.
Thankfully, the high-ranked creatures were arrogant and only watched the lower-tier ones engage in the war, seeing it as beneath them to interfere. If not, the death rate would have been at an alarming rate.
They didn’t care about their kin’s death or their battles. They wouldn’t do anything beneath them, and that pride would cost them dearly.
Standing calmly in the shadows of the camp was Robin. Her violet gaze cut through the chaos, locked onto the second realm monsters, particularly the sea alligators.
After Laura’s battle got a bit of their attention, she moved. With Silent Step active, Robin became a ghost, gliding between corpses, humans, and monsters unnoticed.
This frightening calmness she displayed even in the face of her fellow humans’ death was a result of one of her passive skills.
Killer’s Calm. In battle, her heart rate remained steady, making her hard to detect, likewise improving her reaction speed.
She stopped at the free region where second realm creatures paced lazily, unconcerned, and drew a treasure from her cloak: Spectral Locket.
Spectral Locket. It was like a pocket watch, and it grants 12 seconds of invisibility for a 15-second cooldown using 100 points of mana. One didn’t need to be told, it was in the black rank.
With the timer already ticking, she gripped her two blades: a Venomous Needle dagger, which poisons the enemy on contact, and a Phantom Dagger, which was enchanted to bypass armor and shields.
She dashed.
Her target: a sea alligator.
She targeted this one because they were smaller than the serpents, and it was a level 52, the lowest of the rest.
Until Robin was centimeters away, the alligator still kept its arrogant face up.
At the final moment, she muttered:
"Phantom Slash."
A blindingly fast horizontal strike.
Both blades moved as one. One left poison and the other ignored defense.
Without suspense,
THUD.
The alligator’s head rolled on the sand, lifeless.
