Chapter 121: Spirit

’As I thought, they were shamans.’ Those were the first thoughts he had as he was sucked in the memory. It was the first information he received upon entering.

With his vision getting clearer, he saw a different world, he was still in his ethereal form floating in the world so it was like being present and not at the same time.

And from what he could see about the world, the summary was, the world was cursed.

The floor was blackened, stale and infertile, the sky was black, there was no moon to help them see, thankfully evolution helped in that situation. However, that was all. There were no trees in this world, no plants, nothing of sort, however looking closely there was clearly civilization. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

This world was the famed homeland of the shamans, called the ’Shisd homeland’

Well, mothing about this place deserved the name homeland, however the shamans declared this place their home. So with the infertile lands and everything about the world, one would wonder how they survived.

That was when the memory changed and took him to the people’s lifestyle.

He saw a boy shaman of about ten years old run up to an older middle aged woman and hug her tightly. The older woman reciprocated the feeling and hugged the boy back, all for the boy to silently pull out a dagger from his hand and stabbed the back of the middle aged woman.

From the conversation Jon heard, the boy was the son to the middle aged woman. And until the last breath of the woman the boy didn’t show any emotions. After the death, the boy began feasting upon the body of his mother, then a little girl entered the room where the boy was feasting on their mother.

One would expect the girl to start crying at the sight of her dead mother, however she didn’t do that. No, she ran and pushed the boy all just to keep feasting on their mother.

And it wasn’t just happening there. All manner of things were going on not just in that area, it was happening throughout the planet.

Shockingly and almost to the point of been scary, Jon didn’t change his expression. Without saying any words, he left the memory and left the shaman’s ’Mind world’.

Upon coming out, he immediately beheaded the shaman.

[YOU HAVE NOT...]

-What happened?

Amelia couldn’t help but ask. Jon had suddenly disappeared for a moment. It was like he left his body for a moment.

’Nothing...’ he just shook his head as he thought of what he had experienced.

Amelia’s eyes narrowed at his answer, ’Is he hiding something?’ She had thought they had grown close enough for him to say everything, however, it seemed he was still hiding a lot of things.

As for Jon, just from that short experience he knew about the general situation. However, he didn’t care about it at all. They were all subject for his revenge, they had attacked his place and killed his people, he didn’t care if they already killed each other.

No, he would do more than just that. He would show them terror.

Looking at the portal again, he was in his thoughts.

...

Jenny, the girls and the evolvers with them didn’t even know how to feel. There was no grand battle as they expected. No, it was like how it had always been, he killed the monster that was releasing intense energy like a tsunami just like he had done to the rest.

Their shock had gotten so intense it turned into numbness. The girls especially turned to Alexa. Didn’t she say he had struggled against a second realm, so what was this that was happening now.

"He got stronger again." That was Alexa’s only answer to the gazes she had was receiving and the girls readily accepted the answer.

That was the only possible answer to all this,

"Let’s get ready." Cynthia suddenly said.

"For what?" Laura asked in her rare moment of speaking.

"What do you think Jon will do when his enemies are done coming through the portal?" Jenny said as she shook her head.

Alexa and Laura’s eyes widened as they understood what she meant.

...

The shaman chief suddenly felt betrayed at the turn of events.

He had expected things to go well after a chosen one appeared, however even that chosen one died.

Gulp...

The shaman chief immediately began sweating profusely. ’What to do’ his thoughts kept spinning on what to do and his eyes strangely glowed white before becoming white.

After that, he seemed to have regained his bearing and turned around. He saw a teenage shaman and immediately he saw him, a plan formulated in his mind.

"Akis"

"Uh-yes" The teenage shaman snapped out of his daze at the call of his name. From the look on his face, he too wasn’t happy at the progression.

"Akis, you can see what is going on here." The chief spoke again.

"Yes"

"Honestly, I don’t think we can survive this" The chief sighed at the situation. His experience was the one doing the talking now.

"C-Chief, how can you say that." Akis who still didn’t want to believe the situation stammered. He wanted to be naïve at the situation as much as possible, it was a good way to not believe something like this happening.

"Listen to me, look at that monster." He pointed at Jon still covered in blood.

"He is going into the homeland now, and he is going to cause a massacre on our great homeland." He spoke as if he had even already seen what happened.

"Haa..."

"H-How-"

"I-Impossible..."

At this point, other shamans had snapped out of it and reacted at their chief’s words. It felt like blasphemy for a stranger to enter their homeland before they even got to see it and they didn’t want to believe it.

"Take this and run..." He pulled out a stone from his chest area. It looked like a plain stone, however the shamans knew the stone was more than just a stone.

"C-Chief..."

"How is this-"

"This is-"

The shamans couldn’t understand his immediate decision.

"Akis is the most talented next generation among us." The chief said and none of the shamans could refute his words. Akis was bound to be the next Chief without even trying to get the position.

"That monster is going to kill us, I can see it. But we can do something else."

And surprisingly the shamans accepted his words easily. They didn’t complain again, they knew something about their chief almost nobody had, so they believed his words and for crying out loud, he just killed an honored one, what could they do against him.

So they listened.

"It’s simple, Akis run. We will at least try to stop that monster from entering the portal."

"No, we can run away together, "." Akis shook his head furiously. He didn’t want to accept the situation at all, a part of him still had hope on the whole matter.

Maybe because this group of shamans were little in number, they valued and cared for each other so much. So, the thought of them sacrificing each other just to save him was unsettling.

"No." The chief firmly shook his head and continued, "Our destiny is to sacrifice this world to homeland, we are only creating a path for it to happen. Even it fails now, make it work later."

And before Akis could even complain again, the Chief tapped his forehead and he disappeared.

"Ready to give up your lives," The chief then turned his head to the rest of the shamans. They were going to die, there was no other way, however even if they would, they could still save their homeland.

The chief didn’t want to believe that monster hadn’t figured out that someone had opened it from this world. So even if they escape, he would find them sooner or later.

"We won’t go down without a fight." The chief then said again and flashed a dangerous smile, with the shamans joining the smile. At this point, the shamans had accepted their fate, and if their grand purpose still had hope of happening, they would fight for that chance.

"Our plan is not to fight that monster but to close the portal, we can’t let him enter our homeland and all we need to do is get closer, I’ll do the rest."

With that done, they began their preparations.

...

Through the memory of the female shaman, Jon saw many other things. It was like he had lived there for a few months.

Since he read the memory of a second realm shaman, he also saw more of those people called ’honored ones’. Honored ones were just names given to people in the second realm, and they were given better privileges than the rest. And he also saw a few of the beings he hadn’t even thought of facing yet;

Third realm beings.

He saw their way of living, their hierarchy, their culture, even their language and finally, the energy they used.

The shamans used an energy called ’Spirit’

It was a type of energy more specialized in their ways like necromancy, curses and handling dark energy, just like how the energy from the ’Mind world’ was purely for mind related skills. .

And just like there was bad, there would always be good. However, that is a story for later.

But for now, the spirit itself was exactly the energy Jon was feeling.

And something surprising happened. Somehow in his status window, it showed.
