Last Divinity: The Advent Of Dreams-Chapter 55: New People
Merlin waited outside the Strix City with thousands of people behind him. Isabella and threw other mages floated around him.
They were all waiting for Khali and his team, the sun was going to rise in about half an hour.
They chose this time specifically because besides mages most people would've ran back to theory houses by now.
Even mages wouldn't necessarily stand outside when the sun rises for no reason at all.
However they were starting to get nervous, some were even thinking about going back before it's too late.
Just as Merlin was about to use the radio to ask what's happening they saw multiple light
shining through the sky.
This terrified everybody but Merlin assured them everything was fine. He pretended to act cool but even he was shaken.
He was looking at three pitch black behemoths, the three ships lowered themselves, three giant metallic legs came out from below each of them.
They landed on the sand below picking up dust and sand. A soldier came out and ran towards them.
She bowed, " Sir Merlin, I'm Lieutenant Amelia , I've come to receive the new recruits."
Merlin stroked his beard, " Where's that brat Khali, why didn't he come himself?" He asked.
" Sir Khali is busy." Amelia answered in a flat tone. Merlin was about to continue when she interrupted him.
" We don't have much time sir, discussions can be saved for later." This caught everybody by surprise.
The mages of the Strix Tower never thought they would see the day somebody, especially a mere squire interrupt the great Merlin.
They looked at the old man to gouge his reaction but they were surprised by his indifferent expression.
It was as if he was expecting her to behave like that. He told them to get inside, they were divided into the three aircrafts.
The sun rose at the same time as the aircrafts did. Everybody saw it and stood tense.
They were able to see through the windows and expected the sun to come through. Those with weaker hearts screamed and tried to hide.
Others watched how the soldiers reacted and saw them acting like everything was normal.
They tried to act relaxed but it was not so easy, they were still uneasy deep down, that was until the sun did shine through the windows.
They flinched and backed off, their fear of sunlight was deeply ingrained in their very souls.
However they saw the soldiers, some weaker than them standing there unharmed, infact it seemed they enjoyed the sunlight.
The bravest of them stood forward and stretched their hands to touch the sunlight.
When they did they only felt a warm and comfortable feeling on their skins. This realisation made them relax.
The others also followed and came near the windows. They basked in sunlight for the first time in their lives.
The aircrafts cruised through the sky at a leisurely pace allowing the passengers to enjoy the view and ride.
Some people came out with trays holding snacks. They warmed everybody that their stomachs might be upset.
However after a while things would get better and they will grow to love this food.
Isabella almost jumped when she saw a tray with chips, cakes and even chocolate. She moved so fast she turned into a blur.
Before anybody could react she was already holding a tray of snacks. The waiter did not even know when she took it.
Amelia stood forward, " Ma'am, I'm afraid you can't hoarde the entire tray, the snacks are to be shared.
If you want more you can wait until we get back." Then she turned around and walked off.
Isabella pouted, she had never in her life been told what to do by a girl much younger and weaker than her.
However her grandfather had warned her not to mess with these people so she complied and shared her snacks.
However she did hoard most of the chocolate. After a few hours of flight the ships reached the city of glass.
All of the new comers looked at it with mouths wide open, they had never in their lives seen so much pure glass.
However their surprise was not much considering they had just ridden a giant bird of steel that was not even powered by magic.
The ships descended and the glass dome opened up letting them land. Lucy was the first to come out.
She hated every second in that ship, there was nothing to do except do some mathematical calculations to pass time.
Everybody was led out with Isabella on the lead, she was to be the representative of the new comers.
Behind her were two men who looked really powerful. One was a mage and the blonde one obviously a warrior.
Khali was there that welcome them himself, then he had somebody show them to their quarters.
He requested Isabella joined him, he discussed with her their purpose for being here.
He didn't have time to teach them so they would have to learn along the way, if he is to keep his promise to Merlin then there was a lot that needed to be done.
These people would be taught how to weld and other stuff, the more advanced things would be handled by his people.
Isabella understood, she would inform them tomorrow. Fortunately those brought here to work were either mages or warriors.
Khali didn't have an issue with normal people joining but Isabella suggested they they take more simpler tasks.
Most of the normal people, especially the men chose mining, women went into knitting and jobs of similar tasks.
Khali never understood why humans like dividing roles by sex, it made no sense to him.
Sure, the males had stronger bodies but the difference was not that much, from his observation the females were perfectly capable of doing those jobs.
Yet somehow, they were all content doing different roles but he wasn't one to judge human nature.
The new people got acclimated into their new environment, time passed and just like that an entire year went by.
Somewhere in the world, a muscular man with a short black hair and beard scratched his cheek.
He looked irritated, Infront of him knelt a man who was shaking with fear, if Isabella was here she would've recognised the kneeling man for he was a member of the Strix Tower council.
