Last Divinity: The Advent Of Dreams-Chapter 54: Preparations for departure.
Merlin sent a message to Khali telling him the people were ready, the numbers were more than he had expected but Khali said they can handle it.
In the meantime, he had Isabella watch out for those who quit, he was certain those old greedy fools would try to hurt them.
As expected, when night fell Isabella saw a group of people dressed on black sneaking around.
Nighttime was the time people were most active in this world, it was the only time people were active.
With the exception of true mages/ adept and above, nobody else can walk freely under the sun.
One of the people who had quit and chosen to relocate was walking around happily, ever since she quit working for the tower she felt free.
She had never told anybody, of course Merlin and Isabella knew but the woman was being sexually abused by a grandson of one of the council members.
She couldn't resist or complain or her daughter would suffer too. Her husband was a mage of the tower as well and he died trying to protect her from that monster.
His grandfather was council member, a true mage with immense power, she was merely an initiate.
She couldn't tell anybody either because people like that stood above the law, the only law in this world was the law of the jungle.
The promise of a new place where the weak are protected gave her hope, of course she still has doubt but what else could she do? 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
She bought a few organs of monsters and magical stones, she was planning to make a potion for her daughter.
Even though the sun didn't touch them directly the radiation still effected them slowly but overtime it becomes deadly.
To survive it one needed these potions, they were expensive, fortunately she knew how to make one.
It was illegal to make one yourself without the permission of the tower of the imperial family but she didn't care.
Without a salary, she can't afford one and her daughter has never taken one before so the radiation of eight years was catching up to her.
Just as she turned a corner on her way back home she encountered a group of people dressed in black.
Before she could react one of them lunged at her with a knife. As a mage she was naturally much slower than a warrior.
She cast a spell and a blue mana barrier appeared around her, this was not an elemental spell but a basic one.
The knife easily shattered the barrier but it still managed to save her life. She panicked, she knew she couldn't fight this man.
Not when he was already this close to her, step closed her eyes and waited for death but none came.
When she opened her eyes she saw his burnt corpse on the ground. There was still a flicker of blue lightning on his body.
She knew who had saved her life immediately. She cried and ran back home worried about her daughter.
This happened all over this city, Isabella floated just below the dome barrier on the sky.
This barriers purpose was to stop the sunlight and it partially did that which is why these people were still alive.
It wasn't enough to allow them to walk outside during the day but enough to make their houses safe.
The radiation can go through their thin roofs and walls easily but with this barrier in place there was not enough radiation to kill them instantly.
She looked over the city and would occasionally fire a bolt of lightning from her finger killing an assassin.
Eventually even they realised something was wrong, they lost contact with their members every minute.
They reported to their leader who grumbled in fury. A fat man appeared next to Isabella.
" Isabella what is the meaning of this?" the man asked.
Isabella smiled, " Council man Everglade, what a pleasant surprise, I'm just
dealing with some pest causing trouble in our peaceful home."
Everglade felt his anger rise but he tried to hide it. " Is that so, well then continue." He flew back down.
Isabella clicked her tongue, she wanted him to start trouble so she would have a reason to kill him.
But this coward was very sly, he abandoned his own people to hide his actions. She was angry.
She killed all the assassins then flew back to Merlin's office. The old man hid something under the table when she showed up.
She could still see him chewing something and how could she just let that go. She immediately descended he show her and he took out chocolate.
Her favourite, of all the snacks he returned with, this was definitely her favourite. " I thought you said you had finished it."
She gave him a threatening look, Merlin coughed. " Whatever do you speak of, I would never lie."
She sighed, " Doesn't matter, I'll forgive you this time. I've dealt with those pests by the way, you're welcome."
Merlin nodded, " Good job, that boy will be here in five days, tell the others to be ready by then, he doesn't seem like the patient type."
Isabella nodded, " How's Arthur?" She asked. Merlin sighed.
" Still broken but he's doing better than before, he seems eager to go as well."
----------------------------------------------------------
Days passed and the day to go fetch the new people came. In the past two weeks Khali and his people had been working on accommodations.
They built more cave houses on the first layer of the subterranean world. Each house had it own furniture and they were beautiful.
Enough for a family of five, some were smaller and some larger but the largest was designed to house a family of 6.
Khali was not going with them, the aircraft crew had many roles, two pilots, an engineering team.
Soldiers who control those weapons not controlled remotely by the pilots. A kitchen crew and cleaning crew.
Not everybody was smart enough to qualify for science roles so there were those who went for less stringent roles like cleaning.
Of course they were still paid handsomely. He forced Lucy to go with them, this was the first ever real mission for the air force.
As smart as the engineers were, if something they couldn't handle comes up, she will be needed.
She hated it but he wasn't going to compromise on that. He and the others watched as three aircraft took the the skies under the cover of darkness.
