Last Divinity: The Advent Of Dreams-Chapter 25: Evolved Spider
" It’s here." He recognised those intelligent and cruel eyes, he knew this was the leader of the nest or at the very least one high in the order.
He and Viona stood Infront of the others. The spider came out. It was large, much larger than others standing close to 4 metres tall.
It long legs stabbed holes into the ground with each step it took. It stood Infront of them like a titan.
Khali looked closely at it and realised it difference from other spiders went beyond just it size.
It was more intelligent and it entire body looked metallic. It didn’t have fur over it body like the others spiders.
Instead it entire body was covered in tight metallic armour. It looked tough, when Viona saw it she grinned so wide even Khali was terrified.
" Fire." He whispered. Bullets blazed and flew at it like red streaks. However the splatters of blood he had expected did not occur.
Instead he heard the sound of metals clashing and the bullets bounced off it body. The spider kicked off the ground and jumped at them.
They all moved to the side to dodge but one woman was too slow to react, she kept firing at it to not avail.
Just as it was about to crush her she did a back flip and dodged however it was not enough.
She pulled out her sword and placed it Infront of her. The spider attacked with one of it legs.
The leg cut through the air like a spear and hit the flat side of the sword. The sword was pushed to her chest and she flew back like a ragdoll and crashed on the cave wall creating a crater on it.
She coughed blood and fell to the ground unmoving. They weren’t sure if she was still alive and he didn’t want to risk Freya’s life for her.
However Freya immediately ran towards the woman. He was forced to order other warriors to go protect her.
Seeing their guns were ineffective they pulled out their weapons even though deep down they knew those would be even more useless.
He and Viona attacked the spider from both sides. She jumped into the air with her burning sword clasped by both hands.
He pulled out his spear and aimed for the legs. It turned to attack her but before it could, he slashed it leg with his spear.
He had expected for the leg to be cut off, a spiders legs were always it weakness however sparks flew instead.
The spear didn’t even leave a mark on it metallic skin. His move however drew it attention.
It ignored Viona and attacked him, he danced around it dodging it spear like legs that stabbed the ground all around him leaving deep holes.
Viona dropped above it like a burning angel and her great sword cut down like a guillotine. Clang, the sound of clashing metal echoed through the entire cave followed by a shockwave.
She kicked off it body and jumped back dodging it attack that followed. He retreated as well.
" It seems this will be harder than expected." Viona nodded. " But not impossible, it should have a weakness right?"
He looked at it and saw no weaknesses other than it eyes. However it would definitely defend those.
This spider was very intelligent so it would certainly expect them to aim for the most obvious weakness.
And it had shown him it was capable of setting a trap and leading them to an ambush so he didn’t want to underestimate it.
However as intelligent as it was, it was still a low level beast and didn’t have intelligence high enough to match that of a human let alone his.
Viona pointed her fingers at it like a gun, a tiny ball of fire appeared Infront of her finger and shot forward like a bullet.
She had created a variation of the fireball from looking at the bullet and she didn’t even need to chant to cast it.
Her talent seemed to be even more impressive that he gave her credit for. The fire bullet didn’t have as much power or speed as the actual bullets but it exploded in contact.
At first he was confused on why she was wasting her mana, that attack would obviously not work then he realised her plan.
" I might not be as smart as Lucy but I do remember you saying metal was con.. something for heat.
All I know is that metal can burn." While she was an idiot, her sense for battle was too genius.
She didn’t even understand the concept behind her actions but she knew it would hurt her enemy and that for her was enough.
’ monster.’ however she was correct, metal was a conductor of heat and the one this spiders skin was made off seems to be silver.
Even though it was black now he could see that it was the silver metal. Since the spider was an organic lifeform.
Even if it outer layer was metal, it internals should still be flesh and blood. Even if it had the ability to turn it entire body to pure metal that would only be temporary.
They don’t need to break through the outer skin, just boil it insides. " Keep it busy." He ordered the others to assist Viona and draw it attention away from him.
He closed his eyes to learn a new speed. It was the most basic spell under the fire element.
As a god he had affinity with all of the basic elements and their sub elements and as the god of magic he had affinity will all of magic.
His talent for learning magic circles was faster than anybody and everybody. However even so.
Since the mana he had absorbed was filtered into the dream and illusion mana he couldn’t use fire spells with it.
He had to first covert that mana into the basic unattributed mana, that step was easy and everybody could do it.
The next step was then converting the basic mana into fire mana. Now, how fast one can do that depended on their talent and affinity with that element.
But again, he was the god of magic, while doing all of this would take even the most talented of mages about 30 minutes to an hour.
He did all of it in under 8 minutes and that was only because the others failed to completely keep the spider at bay.
So occasionally he was forced to dodge thus distracting him. Since he wasn’t cultivating and only converting mana that already belonged to him to another element.
It didn’t take long before he opened his eyes. " Now then, time to cook a spider."
