Jingzhe was about to walk back to Mei Mei’s side when a hand stopped him. He turned around and unexpectedly met his mother-in-law, Chi Lian.
"Care for a dance?" she asked him.
His eyes searched for Mei Mei first as if he wanted to seek her permission before dancing with her mother. But she was engrossed in a conversation with her friends and all of her attention was on them.
Without a choice, he nodded at Chi Lian and offered his hand to lead her to the open dance floor where some people were already waltzing.
"I would worry more about my husband than Mei Mei if I were you." Chi Lian laughed, as they faced each other and started to move.
Jingzhe made sure to keep a respectable distance between them, not wanting to be too close that it was considered offensive. His eyes searched for Muyang and found him near the champagne/chocolate fountain, laughing with his brothers.
All the men and women from the Jun family family had showed up. There was a good number of triplets and twins in the room.
It was rather amazing how most of the Jun’s looked alike. Same facial structures, same brown eyes, perfect skin, perfect height, perfect teeth, undeniable beauty. Oh...and they were all successful, from children to adults.
Even the laziest Jun’s were successful!!!
Jingzhe thought to himself that it was no wonder people sometimes said "that baby caught the Jun gene" if they were born looking too gorgeous.
Looking at the men made Jingzhe wonder if he and Mei Mei would have a child that would catch the Jun gene. Their baby would be part Jun after all. His face had a resemblance to his father. If it came down to a choice between having a child with his face or Mei Mei’s, he would choose hers in a heartbeat.
"So...." Chi Liang started, jostling Jingzhe from his thoughts. "What happened to Pang Lucy? She went into your office and never came out."
Jingzhe stumbled and fell forward.
Chi Lian caught him quickly, tightening her hand around his waist. "Mmm, I can see why my daughter likes holding your waist. It is...."
"Mother-in-law!" He exclaimed in horror.
She rolled her eyes. "Relax, I am paying you a compliment. I have a husband with a very nice waist so I cannot covet yours." She helped him adjust properly and they started dancing again. "About Lucy...."
"She will not be a problem again and her face will not be seen for a while." Jingzhe was quick to assure her.
A satisfied smile bloomed on Chi Lian’s face. It was good that Jingzhe knew how to mop up messes. Dealing with someone like Lucy would have been a waste of her time.
"How do you plan to handle the mother?" She asked.
Jingzhe twirled her around while replying softly, "With money. If it fails, she will be sent to where her daughter is."
Chi Lian laughed. "Oh my! I can imagine that bitter woman’s face when she wakes up in space. Maybe she can finally open that branch of Huaqi she has been dreaming about over there."
"Do aliens eat cake?" Jingzhe asked.
"Aliens eat everything." Chi Lian answered. "Including us."
Jingzhe shuddered. "Mother-in-law, I am in the business of sending people to outer space. Jokes about aliens eating humans are not very popular within my circle."
"Meh!" Chi Lian shrugged. "I am not in your circle and I am not joking. To some alien species, we might as well be goats. But enough talk about the Aliens...." She spun slowly and faced him again. "Sending Lucy to outer space is not a permanent solution. My daughter has been lied to by Mo Liang. Trust me, you don’t want her thinking that you are a liar too. Sooner or later, the secret about you being the president of Blue Galactic will be revealed. I guarantee that she will feel betrayed if she learns it from the peep star or some other media outlet instead of you."
Jingzhe winced. "I have been having nightmares about that." He mumbled.
"About what precisely?" She asked curiously.
Jingzhe thought of his nightmare. It was about an alert on everyone’s phone during his wedding with Mei Mei just when she is about to say "I do." Everyone discovers that he is the CEO of Blue Galactic. They look at him as if he is a demon and then Mei Mei runs off. By the time he makes it home, the house is empty and his wife and daughter have vanished from the world completely.
The only upside of this nightmare was the fact that he did not have dreams about Sword Island anymore. The downside was that he was restless, afraid that his dream was a premonition.
"The peep star." He sighed and looked into Chi Lian’s eyes. "I am scared that the peep star knows and that damn bug is waiting for the perfect moment to spill the secret and ruin my life."
Chi Lian raised her eyebrows. Did he just call her a bug? What kind of bug was he thinking? Muyang had called her a fly once.
Jingzhe winced. Suddenly, Chi Lian’s hands were clenching his really tightly.
She loosened her fingers and smiled. "Well, the peep star thrives on chaos so you are not wrong. That is why you need to be the one to tell her before she finds out on the day you propose, get married or have your first baby. I honestly have no idea what frightens you so much about opening up to her on this matter. If you could tell her about Sword island, you can tell her about anything."
The song ended and Chi Lian gestured that they should step off the dance floor. As Jingzhe escorted her to the table where the Princess Rize and Princess Ruoxi were waiting, he told her the truth about what worried him. "When it comes to Sword island, I was the victim. When it comes to Space M, she was the unlucky victim of my war against Mo Liang and the rest of the Mo’s."
"And yet you did not ruin the company completely, even if you had the ability to do so." She paused her feet and stopped him, reminding him of an important fact. "You left the company standing because you loved her and didn’t want to see her hard work ruined. The moment she gave up on the company, you stopped showing them mercy. If you explain this to Mei Mei, she will understand you."
Jingzhe thought about all the curses Mei Mei had sent his way, not knowing he was the CEO of Blue Galactic. Her dislike of him was deep rooted. Would she really understand?
Chi Lian could read his thoughts that were written on his face. She placed her hand on his arm and said, "Do not be like me. I allowed misunderstanding and secrets to sit between our relationship and in the end, she grew to resent me. I thought all the decisions I was making were for her good. I was wrong. Don’t be like me Jingzhe or you will end up living with regrets the same way I am doing."
