Chapter 328: The theories of an alien watch.

It was exactly 8:00 p.m when Whiskers 10 started airing, Family members rallied around Mei Mei, gathering at her house like there was a major celebration they had come to attend.

It was a full house. There were a lot of fuzzy blankets, all of Mingzhu’s plushies were in the living room with the humans and there was a charge in the air and some curiosity.

Muyang was talking to Jingzhe. They were the only two people in the living room with serious looks on their faces like they were discussing matters of national importance.

The family pets were not left out and they were squeezed in with the humans. Even Meow Meow was dangling from a branch on Tofu’s tree, eyes glued to the television.

Between Madam Feng, Chi Lian and Su Manchu, everyone was holding something to eat or drink grinning widely as they stared at the television. Every once in a while, Mei Mei felt someone’s hand rubbing her back or a whisper of encouragement.

Mei Mei was holding on tightly to Mingzhu and every once in a while, the little girl winced because her mother’s nervous arms were crushing her.

"It is starting." Jun Yi shouted over the voices of relatives that were telling old stories.

A lot of hushing went around, some competitive. Then the theme song started playing and Chi Lian hummed along with it which resulted in most people turning their heads to look at her or frowning.

"Did you get a preview?" Rize whispered to her.

She smiled mysteriously.

Rize huffed.

Then, they all did something that members of their family did when watching a movie or anything at all that had a title. They read the name of the episode out loud.

"And then there were 10." 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Only some of the pets, Mingzhu and the Feng’s were lost. Nobody had told them that this was also a tradition. They ingrained it in their minds. Next time, they would remember.

It started with silence and keen eyes until Xing Whiskers discovered the Omnitrix and transformed into an alien with fire abilities for the first time. The room erupted. Muyang led the charge.

"Wait, so this Whiskers just randomly came across an alien watch in the woods which happens to be a galactic super weapon!! He straps it on and it works!! Where was the security or alien retrieval team?"

Chi Lian and Mei Mei groaned. If he was the one that came across it, he would have dismantled it first undoubtedly. Why was he looking for the security and retrieval team? He would have been worse than Whiskers.

Grandma Jun had a question too. "That is not important, can we discuss how it just attached to him permanently? What kind of biometric lock system is that?"

And then more questions just poured out.

"It is an alien watch and Whiskers if from earth. Does it mean earthlings are also aliens?"

"Shouldn’t we be more concerned about the aliens? Are they sharing a body with Whiskers or is Whiskers sharing their bodies? Who is hijacking whom?"

"How did the DNA get into the watch?" Muyang asked.

Jingzhe smiled. "I think I might have some ideas that would make for an interesting research paper. Perhaps we can co-author it."

Muyang smiled proudly and squeezed Jingzhe’s shoulder. His son-in-law was the best!

Madam Feng sighed. Were they watching the show or writing papers on the theories of the alien watch?

Mei Mei resumed the episode without answering a single question but everyone’s attention or curiosity had been aroused successfully.

It was the same across the empire among those that were watching. Some were watching fun, others because Phoenix television was showing, some were watching because celebrities they followed were posting about it.

Most were watching the Peep star had shared an image of Whiskers 10 and not added a single word so what the paparazzo meant had turned into a debate. Some people were even claiming that maybe it was related to Nan Yan Fei’s death and her tell all book.

There were some people that were not enjoying Whiskers 10 so much as their past actions had come calling. Hui Zhenting was one of those people.

He was sitting in the conference room of a police station, facing his superiors and avoiding the judgemental eyes of detectives that were looking into Nan Yan Fei’s death.

Internal Affairs detectives Fu Jiamin and Li Nianzu were on the case. They were known to sniff out lies with ease, a talent nobody had ever ascertained but their success was proof of their abilities.

Six officers had been brought in for questioning alongside Hui Zhenting. All the six men were part of his inner circle and the very officers that had gone to Nan Yan Fei’s house.

Fu Jiamin started. "Let us discuss the death of Nan Yan Fei which is being reopened as of today." His eyes skimmed over the physical reports written by the officers that had been at the crime scene. "All of your body cams showed footage of your entry into the house and yet they glitched during her shooting. Back then, you claimed a technological error but circumstances have changed. Does any of you wish to change their story?"

The seven men said nothing.

IA detective Fu laughed. "You don’t need to say anything, we already got our hands on the proof we need to discredit this story. In case you are not aware gentlemen, we arrested Technical officer Bai Yuchao who confessed to tampering with the software to create the glitch on purpose. And this was not the first time he tampered with the body cams or forged footage for your group. That is why all the cases that the seven of you have worked on together are being reopened."

Zuo Hanbo, one of the officers under questioning was already sweating and nervous. When he heard this, his breath hitched and fear got the best of him. "I didn’t shoot her," he blurted. "I swear to God, I didn’t."

"Hanbo, shut your mouth." Zhenting bellowed.

Li Nianzu smiled at one of the officers and snapped the pen in her hand into two. The cracking sound startled some of the officers.

"So who killed her?" Detective Fu asked.

Hanbo shouted, "She was alive when I left to take a piss and they were tearing the house apart, looking for drugs. I heard her yelling that she knew about the kickbacks."

Qu Linlin, the only female officer among the six yelled, "Hanbo, don’t." She stood up to slap Hanbo.

There was a sizzling sound and she twitched, collapsing to the floor. And then, Chen Shanhe appeared behind her, taser in hand.

He had come with five other Imperial police officers and they were all dressed in their uniforms, giving off an aura of their authority.

He looked around the room and said with authority, "We are here at the command of the Emperor to see this investigation through. When those who are responsible for fighting terror are the terrible ones, people get nervous." He smiled at Hui Zhenting, "So, where is the book and what else did you take from that woman’s house? Most importantly, who have you been taking kick backs from?"
