Chapter 238: A wise ruler must...

While others were discussing the tragedy which had befallen Cosmosis, Jingzhe was thinking about the message which he had received from the Empress Mother. She had already received information from the International space station about the explosion.

To her, it was time for Jingzhe’s randomly blurted plan to come to fruition.

"Boss, what statement are we going to make?" Manager Gao shouted loudly with the look of someone salivating over a a buffet of his or her favorite foods. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

"Boss."

"Boss."

"Boss."

Assistant Xu had to nudge Jingzhe and get his attention. When he looked up, the question was repeated.

Jingzhe replied, "For what? Cosmosis is an American company, it is not in our empire. Also, if we come out eagerly to make a statement before everyone else, someone might accuse us of sabotaging them. Moreover, people died.

Saying something random might make it seem as if we are gloating, especially if it sounds like we are saying ’I told you so.’" He drummed his fingers on the desk slowly. "We did not say anything when they launched their new technology and we will not say anything now."

"But other companies will speak out." Manager Gao reminded Jingzhe.

Jingzhe nodded. "They are not us. We don’t need to be involved in the dirty muddy senseless fight which will not benefit us. What we can do is release a brief statement sharing our sympathies for the victims and that will be all." He braced his arms on the table and leaned forward. "Accidents sometimes happen in our line of work. Today Cosmosis has encountered bad luck and tomorrow it could be us."

The employees that had been ready to gloat and share with the world all the ways in which Cosmos could have done better sighed.

Manager Gao realized that Jingzhe was right. In their business, it was best to be humble. What you threw at your competitor today could be thrown back at you tomorrow if you encountered a similar tragedy.

Thus, the meeting ended.

Assistant Xu waited until everyone was gone to share two important news. One was the asking rent price of the space camp and two was the fact that explosion which had happened in space was already being reported on Phoenix television.

The assistant also shared the footnote which made Jingzhe snigger. Mei Mei really thought that he would not dare to pay that money. He had a lot of money that was sitting idle in his account.

Also, Blue Galactic was paying between ten to thirty million a month in rent to other amusement parks, and big popular places where citizens and tourists gathered for fun.

He had been anticipating twenty million to be her asking price. She had unknowingly saved him five million. How could he turn her down?

"Prepare the contract." He told his assistant between chuckles.

Assistant Xi sighed. Miss Jun Meilin continued to underestimate his boss. He had personally added that footnote because he wanted to ruffle her feathers as she would not allow Blue Galactic into her territory easily.

The day she discovered the boss’s real identity, she would kill him.

"I have to go and meet the Empress Mother." He told his assistant.

This meeting was inevitable.

At the royal temple, Emperor Junjie was on a secret visit to see the progress of his daughter. He had brought Long Wen along and they were disguised as ordinary people that had come seeking blessings.

Long Shuang was in her philosophy class, trying not to dose as Professor Dong Bin that had been hired taught the philosophy of selflessness bored her to dreamland.

"I think, therefore I am," he droned on.

Long Shuang slipped off the desk and fell. Quickly she stood and returned to seat, ignoring the giggles of other children in the class.

The old professor spared one disapproving glance for Long Shuang and continued, "A wise ruler must put the needs of the people before themselves." he lectured.

Long Shuang defiantly pointed her chin forward. "Nonsense."

Professor Dong sighed. The princess argued with all her teachers, master, the monks and the nuns. Even the other children.

"What is your opinion princess?" he asked her.

Long Shuang stood up and queried, "How can a ruler put others before him or herself? It will only make them unhappy and an unhappy ruler will only make the people unhappy. Therefor, a ruler should put themselves first over everyone else."

Professor Dong attempted patience. "A wise ruler must serve with humility."

"A wise ruler must be proud." Long Shuang countered.

"All pride leads to arrogance and downfall." Professor Dong said.

"Like you." A boy sniggered.

Long Shuang glared at him. The story of her banishment for misbehavior had somehow spread among the children so everyone knew her arrogance was the reason why she was now living with the rest of the common folk at the temple.

She had called them peasants a total of four times and she had been forced to kneel in the ancestral hall of the royal family all four times.

Professor Dong cleared his throat. "Princess, the knowledge I teach you has been passed down by our ancestors."

"You mean dead people." Long Shuang crossed her arms on her chest. "Master Dong, the world has evolved. What was taught in your era of the dinosaurs does not work in this new era."

Professor Dong was so shocked that he nearly lost his footing. He was old. Yes. But, he was not dinosaur old.

"Princess, the people are the foundation, you must always remember this." he advised her.

Long Shuang snorted. That was not what her mother said. The royal family was more important than the people. How could these other brats in the class be compared to her, a great princess?

Professor Dong continued on with the class and Long Shuang sighed. She missed her old life, at this time, she would be preparing to eat an elegant meal, not a plate of plain rice, boiled vegetables and roasted potatoes. How did commoners survive on such meals?

The emperor and Princess Long Wen sneaked away from the window, offered some incense, gave a donation and left the temple.

As their car soared to the sky, Long Wen decided to read a book on chess.

"So, do you think that your sister will change as we hope?" Emperor Junjie asked Long Wen.

Long Wen sighed. All she wanted was to read quietly and organize her thoughts. "I believe that such an experiment needs to run for one to three months to see results. In her case, I think she should be left here for at least a year or two in order to wipe out the nonsense that our mother filled in her mind."

Junjie nodded and he ruffled her hair. "As expected of my Wenwen, she understands me best. Do you want to go and play at aunt Mei Mei’s camp?"

Long Wen frowned. "Father, we have enjoyed a short holiday, we should get back to our duties. You are the emperor, duty must come before fun."

Junjie also frowned at his daughter. Why was she worse than his mother?
