Kissing Hellfire: Marry Me, Evil Lord-Chapter 55: Devils don’t care
"I have arranged a new chamber for you, Lauren, Alec," King Martin said after the lunch, addressing the lord informally as the King had said that Alec was nothing less than a son to him now that he was his daughter’s husband.
"It is the second chamber on the west wing. Why don’t you take your husband there, Lauren. If you want anything to be changed, just let the chamberlain know and he will be sure to assist you."
"Yes, father," answered Lauren.
She took a breath before leading Alec upstairs. While walking in the silent corridors, Alec broke the silence between them.
"Where did you meet him?" His tone was cold.
Lauren who was thinking about something didn’t get the question at first.
"Prince Dominic," Alec added with a frown on his face. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Lauren glanced over her shoulder to look at Alec who was walking behind her, wondering how he knew that it wasn’t the first time she met Prince Dominic. When he shot a brow at her, she brought her face back in front.
"You are quite an observant," Lauren gave him some credit. "But I know nothing about him. I only encountered him once and I didn’t even know he is a prince from Bodeville."
The truth was, she crossed paths with Prince Dominic a month ago in Vivian’s brothel. She came to talk with Vivian but the inspection officers suddenly came and she panicked. She had nowhere to run and her last resort was to hide herself in one of the private rooms rented by the guests.
Unfortunately, the room she invaded was Prince Dominic’s. When she went in, he was on top of a lady, and although Lauren was taken aback by the sight, the inspection officers were already on the stairs so she asked Prince Dominic to let her hide under the bed. It was such an embarrassing moment for Lauren and she never thought she would meet the man again.
"He smirked maliciously when he looked at you. Are you sure you just met him once?" Alec asked suspiciously.
Lauren stopped in front of the chamber given to them and turned to Alec, her brows were knitted.
"Look, if you don’t want to believe me then don’t," she said before pushing the door open.
She stepped inside the chamber and looked around. It was bigger than her room. Everything was also clean and organized. Her father sure knew how to please his son-in-law. The way he treated Alec was even better than how he treated his own daughter. How unfair was that.
When she sensed Alec went inside and closed the door, she said, "I will arrange an office for you since you want to stay up all night-"
"There is no need. This chamber is big. I can work here."
That caught her off guard.
How could she sleep peacefully at night now that he would stay in the chamber with her?
"Why, would you prefer sleeping at night without your husband, dear Lauren?"
She turned to him and caught him looking at her darkly.
"It is you who doesn’t want to spend the nights with your wife, my husband. If you want to stay here, I wouldn’t mind. After all, people in the castle will find it odd if you are in a different room while I stay in our chamber alone," she answered, losing her temper remembering what happened last night.
She left him standing there and went to the windows. The clear view of the wide garden was calming but it wasn’t enough to calm her.
When he heard his footsteps nearing, she gritted her teeth.
"I know I did nothing wrong last night but I don’t know why I feel so embarrassed," she said without looking at him, gritting her teeth. She knew they had to talk about it one way or another. Talking about it would allow her to get over it sooner, and then she could focus on what their partnership was truly for.
"You should be," he said coldly, stopping two feet behind her.
"The world is far crueler than you think, Lauren, and for you to offer yourself to any willing devil at the expense of your honor is really embarrassing for a woman."
She turned to face him, a humorless chuckle escaped her lips.
"What, are you trying to be a kind man now? If you think I don’t know what I’m doing with my life then you are wrong, Alec Everston. I know the world is cruel and I definitely know what I’m giving up for my desires."
"You said you are a devil, right? Devils don’t care, Everston. They are heartless, they are willing to take what they could without thinking about what damage they might cause, so why do you care?" Lauren dared take a step closer to him, her eyes looking empty.
"Perhaps, did you fall in love with me?"
She knew it was nonsense but she was really annoyed. From him leaving her last night, to how he implied that she wasn’t in the right mind to do things her way, and how he slapped to her face that throwing herself to a man for her plans was so stupid of her and embarrassing.
"I don’t do love, princess," he said.
As his cold eyes pierced through her, he smirked cruelly. "And you are mistaken. I was mad last night after finding out you were a virgin because I was disappointed. I couldn’t get the good fuck that I want because as I said, I only fuck hard. I don’t do love makings. Did you seriously think your fragile body could endure it when you’ve never done it before?"
He shook his head once. "No. That’s why I’m mad at you, princess. I am a man who got needs, and yet I can’t touch you because I know I will break you beyond repair. I don’t care if I destroy you but I’m starting to covet the power of the throne now. You are a useful tool for me to get what I want, so how can I kill you?"
