Chapter 468: In This Day, There’s a Son-in-Law Picking Up the Shift?!

The people in the factory, watching Mr. Su act so assertively, could only think to themselves that it would be great if the city’s leaders could approve the project sooner, so more families could benefit. The most important thing was that once this was confirmed, the factory could quickly add several hundred new positions.

But everyone understood Mr. Su’s character well and quietly kept their thoughts to themselves.

Mr. Su, however, could clearly see what they were thinking. Still, he pretended not to notice, and without missing a beat, he made a call to the factory accountant right in front of everyone.

"Hey, Xiao Sun, I used some of the factory’s steel plates to make something today. The material costs around six to eight yuan per piece. When you’re back at work, I’ll give you ten yuan for it, so make sure to write it down in the books."

"Okay, I’ll note it down when I get back," the accountant replied on the other end, without asking too many questions. It was a simple confirmation.

After the previous issue with Mr. Su (which was later proved to be a false accusation), the factory was now extremely strict with their accounting. Even a penny could not go unaccounted for.

The people around them watched this quietly, feeling a bit envious but also reminded themselves not to take any small advantages from the factory.

---

By night, the snowstorm had intensified. The snow had reached knee-high levels, and every step felt like trudging through thick snow. Mr. Su, carrying the energy-saving stove, felt like his exposed hands were freezing to the point of losing sensation.

"How am I going to walk this last half hour?" Mr. Su thought to himself, biting his lip and pushing on through the wind and snow.

When they reached the factory gate, they were surprised to see a tall figure standing outside.

"Who would come to the factory at this hour? It’s almost seven." One person questioned curiously.

The bigger concern was whether this person might be one of those who were planning to steal something from the factory. But before they could approach, the man turned around as he heard the footsteps.

Under the dim streetlights, the man’s face was obscured by shadows, making him appear somewhat intimidating.

Everyone stopped in their tracks, eyeing him warily.

Before anyone could say anything, the man called out, "Dad!" and walked quickly toward them.

When he got closer, Mr. Su realized it was his new son-in-law.

Although Mr. Su couldn’t fully accept that his precious daughter had married this "smelly wild boar," he couldn’t help but feel a warmth in his chest seeing Jiang Yexun braving the snowstorm to meet him. A smile spread across his face despite himself.

"What brings you here?" Mr. Su asked, surprised.

"You didn’t come home for dinner today. Mom and Xiaoxiao were worried, so they sent me to get you," Jiang Yexun explained as he put down the bamboo basket behind him.

He took the energy-saving stove from Mr. Su and then handed him the umbrella.

Mr. Su waved it off, "There’s no point in using an umbrella in this snow."

"You’ll catch a cold with snow melting on your head and neck," Jiang Yexun said calmly.

He didn’t let Mr. Su refuse. The umbrella stayed in place as if it had a mind of its own.

Mr. Su reluctantly took it. Jiang Yexun then secured the energy-saving stove in the bamboo basket and carried it on his back, offering to hold the umbrella for both of them.

"Dad, put your hands in your pockets to keep warm," Jiang Yexun advised.

"You’re a grown man, why are you so fussy?" Mr. Su grumbled, but his lips betrayed him as they curled into an involuntary grin.

The people around them watched in envy at their interaction and couldn’t help but comment, "Factory Director Su, your son-in-law is so filial! Just look at him, while none of our own children or spouses would come out in this kind of snow to pick us up."

Mr. Su beamed with pride. "Ah, my son-in-law is meticulous and considerate. Otherwise, why would I have allowed my precious daughter to marry him?"

After a few exchanges, they made their way back home slowly.

Neither Mr. Su nor Jiang Yexun were particularly talkative, and since they weren’t very familiar with each other, the walk was quiet.

When they reached the small house, Mrs. Su hurried out of the living room.

She looked Mr. Su up and down, confirming he was safe, before giving him a heavy slap.

"You’re already such a big person, but you couldn’t even call to let us know you wouldn’t be home for dinner? I called your office, and no one picked up!"

Mr. Su quickly grabbed her hand, apologizing. "Today was my oversight. I promise it won’t happen again. But I came home late because I was testing the energy-saving stove that our sweetheart designed. The effect is incredible!"

He said, raising his thumb proudly.

Mrs. Su immediately turned her attention to the stove Jiang Yexun was carrying on his back.

"Is that what’s behind Yexun? Oh my, our sweetheart is so smart! She’s even better than the two of us!" Mrs. Su said happily.

She waved at Jiang Yexun. "Yexun, put the stove in the living room, and let’s try it out."

"Okay," Jiang Yexun responded politely, heading toward the living room.

Mrs. Su then turned to Mr. Su, concerned, "Didn’t you find it tiring to make such a big stove all by yourself today?"

"Making something my daughter designed? How could I feel tired! When I was making it, it was as if I had divine help, I was so energized!" Mr. Su said boastfully.

Mrs. Su was already used to his gloating when it came to their daughter. She couldn’t help but reach out and smack him, and they both headed back to the living room.

Just then, Su Xiaoxiao, who had just finished her bath, hurried down from upstairs.

"Dad, you’re back!" She greeted joyfully.

Jiang Yexun immediately turned and frowned when he saw her dressed in a thin sweater. "Quick, go upstairs and put on a thick coat. It’s so cold outside, how can you wear so little? What if you catch a cold?"

"I’m just saying a couple of things." Su Xiaoxiao pouted, clearly unhappy.

Before she could say anything more, Mr. Su also chimed in, "Go put on your clothes. Otherwise, I’m not talking to you."

Su Xiaoxiao, feeling a little wronged, let out a humph and ran back upstairs.

When she came down again, the energy-saving stove was already burning.

"How’s my energy-saving stove? Is it easy to make?" Su Xiaoxiao peered over curiously, eager to hear their feedback.

"It’s easy. I can make one by myself in a day, and I haven’t even worked with my hands for years. If the senior workers or the younger ones do it, they could probably make one in three to four hours," Mr. Su nodded, calculating the time.

He then turned to Su Xiaoxiao and said seriously, "After I finished, I tested it with the factory workers. The stove heats up about six degrees higher than an ordinary charcoal stove, and the coal burns much slower. It’s about a third less."

"So the factory is thinking about talking to the city leaders and seeing if they can make this energy-saving stove a project for us at the Steel Mill," he explained.

"But shouldn’t the Machinery Factory be the one to make it?" Su Xiaoxiao asked, a little surprised.
