Kissed and Seduced By the Most Rough Man in the Village-Chapter 364: Why Adopt So Many Children?!
The officers from the National Security Office were dressed in plain clothes, and Su Hongchen had also chosen to wear his own outfit to avoid raising suspicion while conducting the investigation. Given this, it was no surprise that the neighbors found them suspicious.
Before the officers could reveal their identities, Su Hongchen took out his military ID.
"We are performing official duties." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
The worried neighbors, who had rushed over anxiously, froze in shock when they saw the ID and quickly backed away.
"We’re just colleagues of Jin Xubo and his wife from the same factory. We’re neighbors because we were assigned housing near each other, but we don’t really know them," they hurriedly distanced themselves from the couple.
Without wasting more words, Su Hongchen and the National Security officers entered the apartment. The place was small, just over 40 square meters, with only a living room and two bedrooms—one large and one small.
One room was a typical bedroom with a double bed and a small bed next to it, clearly where Jin Xubo’s family slept. The other room, only about 10 square meters, had a bunk bed. Although the bed seemed meant for two people, the way the children were seated in a row and the arrangement of pillows and bedding made it clear that they treated it as one big shared bed.
Apart from the little girls, there was also a two-year-old boy and a three-year-old boy on the top bunk. The children were frightened when they saw the strangers, huddling together and trembling uncontrollably.
Seeing them like this made Su Hongchen feel incredibly sorry for them.
"Don’t be scared, we’re just here for something," he said gently, raising a hand to comfort them.
But as soon as he got closer, the children started crying in unison. A girl about six or seven years old stood at the front, shielding the other children behind her. She had a delicate, pale face, with big round eyes, and when she widened them in fear, she looked like a frightened little animal.
Su Hongchen couldn’t help but sigh, but then something dawned on him.
"Is your last name He? Do you live at Hong Feng Production Team? Is your brother named He Xingzhi?" Su Hongchen asked, trying to keep his voice calm despite his urgency.
The girl’s wary expression froze for a moment, and then she nodded. "Uncle, do you know my brother?"
"Yes! Your brother has been looking for you! He gave me a drawing, which is how I recognized you right away," Su Hongchen said, letting out a long sigh of relief.
Even though his father’s situation was still unresolved, being able to reunite He Xingzhi with his sister was a huge relief. At least one of the major issues had been dealt with.
"You’re lying! Dad said our family didn’t want us anymore. We have to behave and follow Mom and Dad, or we won’t have food, a place to sleep, or clothes to wear," the little girl sobbed, denying it.
"Your brother never abandoned you. You were taken by bad people. He’s been searching for you all these years. He’s even come to Shanghai just to find you. When you go back with me, you can ask him yourself, and you’ll believe it," Su Hongchen gently coaxed her.
One of the National Security officers, who had been observing, patted Su Hongchen on the shoulder. "Since you know this child, you can handle questioning them. We’ll check the rest of the place."
"These children weren’t adopted. My friend’s sister was sold to traffickers by her stepmother, so there’s no way Jin Xubo would have gotten her for free," Su Hongchen said, frowning.
The National Security officer furrowed his brows as well, looking more closely at the crying children. He noticed that all the girls were strikingly beautiful, which suggested that Jin Xubo and his wife had been very selective in taking them.
So what were they trying to do?
Both the officers and Su Hongchen found the situation deeply strange. But with the children in such an emotional state, they couldn’t get the answers they wanted. Instead, they decided to search Jin Xubo’s bedroom.
Soon, they found a box under the bed filled with children’s clothing, along with some red strings holding pendants.
The girls’ clothes were all very small, likely belonging to children who had been brought in at two or three years old. The boys’ clothes were similarly sized, but the fabric was noticeably better than what they were wearing now. It was clear these were the clothes the children had been wearing when they first arrived at the Jin household.
But Su Hongchen and the National Security officers still couldn’t figure out—why had he taken in so many children? What was he planning to do with them?
