Chapter 361: Finally, Some Alone Time for the Couple

Gui Zhenzhen still wanted to argue, but Jiang Yexun had already shoved the rag back into her mouth.

"Brother, you must make sure to speak to the National Security Office about the Disciplinary Office issue. I’m sure there’s something fishy going on—it didn’t seem like they were just responding to a report," Su Xiaoxiao reminded him with concern.

It wouldn’t be unusual for the Disciplinary Office to investigate based on a report. But what troubled her was their attitude, particularly the frustration they showed when she narrowly avoided a crisis, followed by their brief moments of deep thought.

"Don’t worry, I’ll have the National Security Office conduct a thorough investigation. People like that have dirty hands. Even if we don’t catch them with direct evidence this time, they’ve harmed enough people over the years to be held accountable eventually," Su Hongchen promised with a serious nod.

Not long after, officers from the National Security Office and soldiers arrived. After a detailed discussion with Su Xiaoxiao, they took Gui Zhenzhen and the man into custody.

Gui Zhenzhen was as white as a sheet, desperately pleading through muffled groans for Su Xiaoxiao to save her. But Su Xiaoxiao remained calm, even cold, as she watched her former classmate get taken away.

Su Hongchen, not at ease, insisted on going along with the officers to ensure everything was handled properly. Before leaving, he sternly instructed Jiang Yexun, "Keep an eye on my sister. This afternoon, my parents will be at work, and I’m worried someone else might try to harm her."

Su Xiaoxiao opened her mouth to say, "Who would be crazy enough to try again?" But then, thinking about the person behind all this, she silently closed her mouth, realizing that their enemy might indeed be that insane.

After Su Hongchen left, Mr. and Mrs. Su both shot Su Xiaoxiao a disapproving look.

"How could you be so reckless? The next time something like this happens, even if you want to test the waters, you must let us know first, understand?" her mother scolded.

"Yes, next time I’ll definitely tell you in advance," Su Xiaoxiao nodded obediently, like a little chick pecking at rice. Her sweet and innocent demeanor made it hard to believe she had pulled off something so bold today.

"For the rest of the afternoon, stay at your aunt’s house and don’t wander around, okay?" Mrs. Su said, still worried.

She wasn’t just concerned about her daughter going out—she wasn’t even comfortable leaving her home alone.

"Okay," Su Xiaoxiao readily agreed, not daring to say otherwise.

Aunt Guo quickly chimed in, "Don’t worry, in-law! I’ll take good care of Xiaoxiao. We have a lot of family around while the house is being renovated, so nothing will happen to her here."

"Thank you so much," Mrs. Su said gratefully.

"Oh, no need to thank me. Xiaoxiao will be my daughter-in-law soon, after all," Aunt Guo said with a warm smile.

After a bit more small talk between the two families, Mr. and Mrs. Su finally left for work.

As soon as they were gone, Aunt Guo looked at Su Xiaoxiao with concern.

"Xiaoxiao, after everything that happened this afternoon, I’m sure you didn’t get a proper meal. Let me whip up something delicious for you. Why don’t you go rest in my room for a bit?" she offered.

"Thank you, Auntie," Su Xiaoxiao replied. She didn’t refuse because, truthfully, she was starving. She had been too busy earlier to show it.

"Auntie, I’ll stay and help," He Xingzhi volunteered tactfully.

Su Xiaoxiao’s face turned bright red, and she quickly left the kitchen.

The moment the couple stepped out into the yard, the workers who were fixing up the house all cast curious glances their way. They had witnessed the commotion earlier, and now their curiosity was piqued even more.

But the workers weren’t the only ones watching. Jiang Yexun’s gaze was locked on Su Xiaoxiao, his eyes filled with a burning intensity that he couldn’t hide.

As soon as they stepped into Aunt Guo’s room, Jiang Yexun shut the door behind them without a word. Before Su Xiaoxiao could even turn around, he pulled her into a tight embrace.

He held her so fiercely, it was as if he wanted to merge her into his very bones.
