Kissed and Seduced By the Most Rough Man in the Village-Chapter 317: Is Your Partner Really Healthy?
Su Xiaoxiao quickly sat up straight and nodded obediently. "Mom, don’t worry. I understand. I will definitely get along well with Yexun."
Seeing that she was taking it seriously, Mrs. Su finally breathed a sigh of relief and continued to sort through the other bags. There were cans of pears, peaches, and oranges... Wheat milk, baby formula, and brown sugar as if they were free. Additionally, there were several pieces of donkey-hide gelatin and wild ginseng prepared.
Although the ginseng wasn’t very old, only about ten years, it was still sufficient for making tea or stew.
Mrs. Su kept looking through the bags. The remaining two large bags were filled with various fabrics and processed cowhide and sheepskin.
"Why did he even pack these?" Mr. Su was a bit astonished.
Su Xiaoxiao wasn’t entirely sure what Jiang Yexun had prepared. However, seeing these items, she could guess his intentions.
"We’re in the Northeast, and the clothing styles there are quite different from Shanghai. He was worried you might not like the styles if he bought clothes there, so he decided to bring back fabrics and hides. You can find a skilled tailor here to make the clothes," Su Xiaoxiao explained with a smile.
Mr. Su and Mrs. Su couldn’t help but sigh, "He really is a thoughtful child, but isn’t he being a bit too generous?"
After all, these items were not just valuable in the Northeast; even in places like Shanghai and Beijing, they could easily afford several brides. While parents naturally wanted the best and most caring treatment for their child, when something seemed excessively good, it inevitably raised suspicions about potential hidden flaws.
Otherwise, why would he shower them with so many gifts and money? It felt almost like a bribe. However, looking at their daughter, who was sitting on the sofa with a blissful expression, they realized she probably didn’t grasp the worries they were harboring.
No matter what, they would wait for that boy to come over tomorrow and had a good chat with him. They were adamant that no matter the circumstances, they would never trade their daughter for anything. If there was truly something wrong with him, not even hundreds of thousands would change their minds.
As they continued to sort through the items, they discovered six sealed jars placed inside. Holding them, they felt the weight—clearly, there was something substantial within.
"What’s in these six jars?" Mrs. Su asked curiously.
"Yexun learned how to make spicy beef from a friend of mine. It’s really delicious. But it should be eaten within three months, or it might spoil," Su Xiaoxiao hurriedly informed her.
Mrs. Su glanced at the beef leg they had seen earlier and was a bit surprised, "Did he buy almost a whole cow?"
"I’m not sure. Anyway, these things were all prepared by Yexun," Su Xiaoxiao said, scratching her head awkwardly.
Mrs. Su, seeing her daughter’s confused expression, sighed helplessly, "How can you not know anything, my child?"
Su Hongchen, leaning against the wall, chuckled and teased, "Isn’t it true that she knows nothing? She built a big house in the village and practically lured Jiang Yexun and his mother into living there. They’ve been cooking and providing for her so well; they not only prepared meals but even fetched water for her every day."
Mrs. Su and Mr. Su exchanged glances, unable to suppress their laughter as they finally settled down next to Su Xiaoxiao.
Watching her parents sit so seriously, Su Xiaoxiao felt a pang of despair. While she wished for her brother to say a few good words for Jiang Yexun, she didn’t expect him to expose all her secrets like this.
Noticing her daughter’s glaring look directed at her brother, Mrs. Su gently reached over and patted Su Xiaoxiao’s arm, offering her a reassuring smile.
"Alright, don’t blame your brother. He always tells us the truth about everything he sees. Sometimes, being too good to you might not be a good thing. Besides his mother’s issues, does Jiang Yexun have any other problems?"
"What problems?" Su Xiaoxiao blinked, confused.
"Like is he too old, or does he have any physical inconveniences, or any other issues? At least tell me five bad things about him or his family," Mrs. Su said sternly.
"He’s twenty-four years old, doesn’t have any physical inconveniences, and besides being a bit dark, he’s otherwise healthy. If you’re worried, you can take him for a comprehensive physical examination," Su Xiaoxiao reassured them, showing no concern.
Although a full-body check wasn’t a common practice at that time, it was still possible. Moreover, she was certain from her previous life that Jiang Yexun was very healthy.
"Twenty-four is a bit old. He’s six years older than you. It’s rare for men of that age not to be married, even in the city. Your brother is an exception!" Mrs. Su added.
Su Xiaoxiao wanted to explain that Jiang Yexun wasn’t just delaying marriage at twenty-four; if they broke up, he could stay single for life and only think of her. That was how he lived in her past life. However, she knew her mother wouldn’t believe it.
So, she changed her explanation. "Yexun is very stubborn and once he decides on something, he sticks to it. He didn’t want to get married just for the sake of having children and refused to consider any introductions. Also, his mother had a previous marriage before marrying his father and had two sons. It was chaotic, so he didn’t want to add to the trouble."
"Will marrying him mean there’s no more trouble?" Mrs. Su glared at Su Xiaoxiao.
She suspected that the excessive gifts were due to too many family issues.
"If his family is this troublesome, I wouldn’t agree to the marriage. Xiaoxiao, I don’t deny that your partner is good, but a man needs to go out and work. With how much he spoils you, he will definitely not let you work after marriage. Then, you’ll have to deal with the trouble from the family. With your soft temperament, you wouldn’t be able to handle such a situation," Mrs. Su advised patiently.
Before Su Xiaoxiao could respond, Su Hongchen said, "There aren’t two pairs of sisters-in-law; there’s only one pair left. The second son of the Jiang family was killed by his wife and will also be shot after the New Year. The eldest couple can’t cause much trouble either. They can’t even say anything bad about Xiaoxiao. If Jiang Yexun were to get involved, they’d be beaten up."
Mr. and Mrs. Su were stunned, not knowing how to respond. Su Hongchen went on to detail everything he knew.
Hearing this, Mr. and Mrs. Su felt disoriented. After a long pause, they sighed deeply, "Based on these matters, it seems you won’t suffer if you marry into the Jiang family. Now we just need to confirm that Jiang Yexun is healthy."
"And we need to see how he looks. If he’s too unattractive, that won’t work either. We should consider not only your eyes but also the future of finding a partner for our children," Mrs. Su added quickly.
Being a fan of good looks, she had meticulously chosen her current husband years ago. Luckily, she stuck to her standards, which led to having beautiful children.
Now, in order to have beautiful grandchildren, she naturally wouldn’t accept an unattractive future son-in-law.
Su Hongchen felt a headache coming on with his mother’s criteria. Fortunately, his sister had found an outstanding partner, which eased his concerns about her not finding someone suitable.
"Mom, don’t worry. Besides being a bit dark, Yexun has handsome features," Su Xiaoxiao said, wrapping her arm around Mrs. Su’s.
Mrs. Su furrowed her brows skeptically, "Just a bit dark? Why doesn’t he use your Whitening Pill? Isn’t it supposed to be very effective?"
"People in the village are all dark-skinned. If he were too fair, he wouldn’t have any deterrent effect. Once we leave the Hong Feng Production Team, I promise to make him look fair and delicate, like a young gentleman," Su Xiaoxiao teased with a smile.
Su Hongchen imagined Jiang Yexun as a delicate-looking young man and felt a shiver. He’d rather have him stay slightly dark. A rough man was better than a foppish one.
He certainly didn’t want a pretty-boy brother-in-law.
