Kissed and Seduced By the Most Rough Man in the Village-Chapter 315: Finally Back Home
"Brother, do you have anything else you want to add?" Su Xiaoxiao asked.
"Yesterday, I bought the train ticket at two in the afternoon. It had been less than 24 hours, and I didn’t notice anyone following us secretly. So, that person must have known my itinerary in advance and bribed someone at the train station beforehand." Su Hongchen’s face, already dark with worry, grew even more somber.
He simply couldn’t understand why someone would go to such lengths to target him.
Su Xiaoxiao’s mind whirled with thoughts, and a fleeting idea re-emerged. But right now, she just wanted to get home quickly to confirm her suspicions.
After finishing their meal and discussing everything that needed to be discussed, they each went to their rooms to rest.
Early the next morning, the police brought their train tickets to them.
There were more trains from the northeast to Shanghai than before, and they boarded a train at ten in the morning.
This time, they finally arrived in Shanghai without any trouble.
By the time they got off the train, it was already eight in the evening. Jiang Yexun and He Xingzhi went to the hotel to check into two rooms.
"Mom, you should rest first. We’ll take the stuff to Xiaoxiao’s house," Jiang Yexun said to Aunt Guo.
Aunt Guo immediately became anxious. "You’re just going to show up at Xiaoxiao’s parents’ place like this? And I came all this way; it’s unacceptable not to visit them and just hide in the hotel."
"We’re just dropping off the stuff and then leaving. We’ll come back tomorrow after everything is prepared for a formal visit," Jiang Yexun said, raising one eyebrow with a hint of helplessness as he looked at his mother.
Seeing his arrangements, Aunt Guo sighed in relief.
Su Xiaoxiao, however, was puzzled. "If you drop off the stuff, won’t you have nothing to bring tomorrow?"
"I bought some things from Big Gao before, and they were sent directly from the post office. They should have arrived by now," Jiang Yexun explained with a smile.
Su Xiaoxiao hadn’t thought of this, and neither had Su Hongchen. They couldn’t help but look at him in surprise.
"Alright, don’t waste time. It’s already past eight. You still need to chat, shower, and go to bed, which will be until midnight," Jiang Yexun urged.
Hearing this, Su Hongchen didn’t think much of it. After all, Jiang Yexun was responsible for impressing his parents, and he was only promised not to be a hindrance.
So, the three of them carried two bundles on a pole, each holding two oversized pieces of luggage, and headed towards the Shanghai First Steel Plant’s residential area.
In this era of material scarcity, even in Shanghai, such a sight would draw attention.
However, people only glanced once before quickly looking away. They assumed the bundles contained luggage and never thought about the food, snacks, game meats, and hard-to-find local specialties inside, not to mention various fabrics.
They walked for about half an hour before arriving at the residential area where Su Xiaoxiao had lived since she was young.
Jiang Yexun carefully observed every corner of the residential area in the dark, imagining his partner walking through these places.
Fortunately, the area was empty at this time, and no one saw Jiang Yexun and He Xingzhi following along.
Su Xiaoxiao’s home wasn’t in a row of apartments but rather in an older residential complex, consisting of five buildings with two units per floor. This layout allowed Jiang Yexun and the others to carry everything upstairs.
After placing everything outside the door, Jiang Yexun looked up at his partner with a hint of reluctance.
Her big, bright eyes seemed to want to leap into his arms at any moment.
Jiang Yexun’s breath hitched for a moment, but he eventually gestured for them to go first, gritting his teeth.
Su Xiaoxiao couldn’t bear to part and instinctively took a step towards him before stopping.
"Yexun, I’ll come find you early tomorrow morning," she said silently.
Jiang Yexun shook his head. "You should spend time with your family. I’ll come by around seven in the evening tomorrow."
He wasn’t worried about Su Xiaoxiao’s parents refusing to offer him a meal. He was just concerned that his first visit might upset them.
It didn’t matter if he, as a man, was kicked out without a meal by his future in-laws, but he didn’t want his mother to lose face too.
"Isn’t it too late?" Su Xiaoxiao said, feeling even more reluctant.
Just then, some noises from inside the house caught their attention. Before Jiang Yexun could say anything, the door was opened from inside.
Su Xiaoxiao and Su Hongchen quickly turned around and saw their parents with red eyes looking at them.
"Why are you two back so suddenly? You should have let us know so we could come and pick you up," Mrs. Su said, giving her son a firm pat on the arm.
Then she looked at Su Xiaoxiao and reached out to give her a hug. But as she leaned out, she noticed the door was filled with things.
"Why did you bring so many things back?" Mr. Su asked, his voice choked with emotion.
Su Hongchen grinned and pointed to Su Xiaoxiao with his chin. "I only brought a small piece of luggage. The rest is all from my sister."
Although she had planned to tell her parents about her marriage to Jiang Yexun, Su Xiaoxiao was still startled by her brother’s sudden revelation. She felt her spine stiffen.
She quickly added, "These are just some local specialties, gifts for you."
Mrs. Su shook her head at Su Xiaoxiao’s guilty expression. She looked down the stairs but didn’t hear any other sounds, then frowned. "So where is he?"
"Ah?" Su Xiaoxiao stood frozen, unable to respond.
Mrs. Su tapped her on the head. "I mean, where is your fiancé? He’s already in Shanghai; why hasn’t he come to meet your father and me?"
"How did you know?" Su Xiaoxiao asked nervously, clutching her clothing.
Mrs. Su smiled and shook her head. "With just the two of you, you couldn’t possibly carry all these things by yourselves. If he didn’t have help, how would you manage? So, where is he?"
"He went back to the hotel and will come to visit us formally tomorrow evening at seven," Su Xiaoxiao quickly explained.
Mr. and Mrs. Su nodded in satisfaction. "He seems to know his manners."
They didn’t look down on country people but understood that visiting to propose was different from a casual visit. They couldn’t have him show up like a whirlwind right off the train.
That would undermine the serious atmosphere of the occasion.
After moving everything inside, Mr. and Mrs. Su, along with Su Hongchen, didn’t immediately examine the contents. Instead, they first took Su Xiaoxiao’s hand and inspected her carefully.
"My poor Xiaoxiao, you must have suffered so much in the countryside. You’ve lost weight," Mrs. Su said, her eyes turning red.
Su Hongchen, standing aside, couldn’t help but twitch his lips.
"Mom, I know you’re worried about Xiaoxiao, but you can’t just lie. She hasn’t lost weight; she’s clearly gained some," Su Hongchen countered.
Mr. Su didn’t wait for Mrs. Su to get angry and immediately gave Su Hongchen a hard slap on the back.
"What nonsense are you talking? Your sister’s face was rounder before. Now she looks as thin as a twig."
"No, she only did farm work for less than half a month. After that, she was gathering pig grass with the kids from the team. The autumn harvest work was all done by her fiancé, and she had meat for every meal—pork, rabbit meat, lamb, beef—whatever she wanted. Her clothes from before she went to the countryside might not even fit her now," Su Hongchen replied, somewhat helplessly.
His parents had a thicker filter for his sister than he did.
However, Su Hongchen had forgotten that when he first saw Su Xiaoxiao, he also thought she looked thinner compared to when she was in Shanghai. He was sure that Jiang Yexun hadn’t taken good care of his sister.
