Chapter 272: Jiang Mancang is in Trouble

Aunt Guo and the others were startled.

Jiang Guoli’s gaze immediately turned to Hongxiang. "Hongxiang, do you have a bicycle? Can I borrow it to take Mancang to the city hospital?" He said urgently.

Aunt Guo looked at the child he was holding. The boy’s face had turned a deep purple, and she couldn’t tell what had happened. All personal grudges had to be put aside for now.

"Alright, I’ll bring it out right away," Aunt Guo responded, quickening her pace to the yard.

Hearing the commotion, Jiang Yexun and Su Hongchen emerged from their room, wanting to see what was happening and offer help. However, Aunt Guo quickly signaled them to stay back with a silent gesture.

They could lend the bicycle or give money, but they should avoid getting involved. If something happened to Jiang Mancang on the way, it would surely be blamed on them.

Jiang Yexun stopped and held Su Hongchen back. After spending so many years in the army, he had a reflex to help in any situation.

"There are plenty of people in the Jiang family. It’s not our responsibility to get involved," Jiang Yexun insisted.

Su Hongchen hesitated but eventually agreed to keep out of it.

Aunt Guo brought out the bicycle for Jiang Guoli, who then asked, "Do you have any money? I brought twenty, and they contributed ten, but I’m worried it might not be enough."

"I only have ten," Aunt Guo said, pulling out a wad of cash from her pocket and handing it to Jiang Guoli.

Jiang Guoli frowned, seemingly about to protest that ten yuan wouldn’t be enough. But Aunt Guo cut him off, "Helping you is a favor. If I don’t, it’s my right. It’s your grandson; shouldn’t you get the whole team to chip in?"

Jiang Guoli’s face showed a trace of anger, but he had no choice. He quickly mounted the bicycle, with Hu Yuezhen holding Jiang Mancang on the back.

As he watched the bike leave, Aunt Guo spat in disgust. "What a bastard. Forty yuan is enough to cover any serious illness! Even at a time like this, he’s trying to swindle money from me. How ridiculous."

Jiang Guohua frowned disapprovingly at Aunt Guo. Just as he was about to say something, Aunt Guo shot him a fierce look. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Without waiting for him to speak, Aunt Guo ushered Tao Junlan and Qian Siyu into the yard and locked the gate behind them.

"Auntie, what happened with Uncle Jiang’s family?" Su Xiaoxiao asked curiously, poking her head out from inside. The cold made her reluctant to put on additional layers.

"It seems the boy from Jiang Quansheng’s family is in bad shape. His face has turned blue. Dr. Cui in the local clinic is away for training this month, so if they want to help Jiang Mancang, we have to go to the city hospital," Aunt Guo said, sighing deeply. She didn’t expect a good outcome and was clearly worried.

Ignoring everyone’s reactions, Aunt Guo went to check on the medicinal herbs simmering in the kitchen. Finding that the water had reduced to a bowl, she quickly filled the jars with more water.

Tao Junlan and Qian Siyu noticed the large number of medicine jars and asked with concern, "Auntie, why are you boiling so many herbs? Are you feeling unwell?"

"It’s because I’ve been working hard in the fields, and then I traveled by train without proper rest. I need to use traditional Chinese herbs to recuperate, but it’s nothing serious," Su Xiaoxiao explained, having already prepared this reason.

Qian Siyu and Tao Junlan looked at her with concern and hurried over. Even Jiang Yexun and Su Hongchen were momentarily forgotten.

As they opened the door, they saw Su Xiaoxiao wearing only light winter clothing. They quickly helped her to sit by the warm kang.

"You should sit here and rest. When we’re done, we’ll tell you what’s going on."

"You’re not feeling well, so stay warm on the kang. We’re about to travel for several days and nights. It’s hard to get tickets now, and preparing for the journey will be tough. Don’t catch a cold," Qian Siyu and Tao Junlan fussed over Su Xiaoxiao with genuine concern.

Hearing their worries, Su Xiaoxiao smiled, her eyes nearly squinting with happiness. "It’s fine. When Yexun built the house, he made sure there was a good heat barrier. The room is quite warm now, up to eight or nine degrees."

Qian Siyu and Tao Junlan noticed the increasing warmth and smiled. "Your boyfriend’s good at preparation. We saw you have plenty of firewood and coal, so even if you stay here for the winter, you’ll be fine."

"He always over-prepares. Living with him means I’ll never suffer from lack of essentials or be mistreated. Don’t worry," Su Xiaoxiao said, pulling them to sit by the kang.

Jiang Yexun and the others finally entered the room. Noticing their serious expressions, Tao Junlan asked, "Did you call us over because something happened?"

"Yes, I need you to help keep an eye out for when Dong Jiaxuan and Pan Yongsheng buy up the slots for other educated youth to return home," Su Xiaoxiao said promptly.
