Kissed and Seduced By the Most Rough Man in the Village-Chapter 208: How Could They Try to Extort Us?
After Su Xiaoxiao finished washing up, Jiang Yexun helped tidy the bedding. He placed a small table on the bed for her to sit, covering her with a light quilt before heading to the kitchen to bring lunch. Aunt Guo also came in, prompting Su Xiaoxiao to blink expectantly at her.
Aunt Guo smiled and urged, "Alright, hurry up and eat. We won’t go out today. We’ll wait until everyone leaves, then go to the city to bring back your sister Xinyue."
However, Jiang Yexun frowned at this and served her a piece of braised pork. "Just say my sister is experiencing severe morning sickness and can’t get out of bed. Let my brother-in-law come."
"But Jiang Quansheng is still your half-brother. If he died and she doesn’t come to pay her respects, won’t it seem improper?" Aunt Guo asked cautiously. Though she disliked the Jiang family, they still had to live in the same village, and public opinion could make life difficult.
"Auntie, people in the village believe that once a woman is married, she follows her husband. Xinyue is pregnant and not feeling well, and her husband thinks it’s inappropriate for her to come with her condition. The villagers will understand," Su Xiaoxiao explained.
Aunt Guo’s eyes lit up. "Yes, exactly! No pregnant woman in the village would come over for something like this. As long as your brother-in-law comes and presents a gift, it will be enough."
The constant fighting and chaos from that family, coupled with the looming threat of Dong Jiaxuan, created an uneasy atmosphere. No matter which "bomb" went off, it wouldn’t be good if her daughter got caught in the crossfire.
Just as they finished discussing their concerns, there was a loud pounding on the door. Su Xiaoxiao sat up straight in surprise, and Jiang Yexun, feeling protective, patted her back gently and furrowed his brows again.
"You two stay here and eat. I’ll go see who it is," he said in a deep voice and then walked outside. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Aunt Guo, worried, wanted to follow, but Su Xiaoxiao held her back. "Auntie, let Brother Yexun handle it. He can control the situation. If we go, they’ll just think they found easy targets."
In such times, especially in the village, people feared individuals like Jiang Yexun the most—tough and unyielding. No matter how eloquent one was, it couldn’t compare to a pair of fists.
Aunt Guo sighed. "I’m afraid that rascal will get angry and beat someone to death."
"Don’t worry. He may look fierce, but he’s smart and won’t do anything that would harm himself while trying to hurt others," Su Xiaoxiao reassured her.
However, their conversation was interrupted by a woman’s sharp accusation outside. "You! It’s your fault my son died because of your stinginess! If you had given him the job or at least not spoken so harshly, he wouldn’t have fought with his wife, and none of this would have happened."
"Get out! If you think I’m to blame, report it to the police," Jiang Yexun replied coldly, looking at the dozen or so people crowding into the yard.
But the group, emboldened by their numbers, advanced. "Jiang Yexun, don’t think you can intimidate us just because you can fight. There are over twenty of us here. How many can you take on?"
Aunt Guo’s face turned pale upon hearing the threats, and she started to rush outside, but Su Xiaoxiao darted out quicker, like a rabbit, stopping in front of the group. "Hit me if you dare! This is my home. You all barging in and threatening to attack, I can charge you with attempted murder! Each of you will get a few years in jail, and let’s see what happens to your families then."
Su Xiaoxiao never expected them to use such a strange angle to extort Jiang Yexun, but she couldn’t let him face so many alone.
"This has nothing to do with you! Get lost, or we’ll hit you too!" one man threatened.
Su Xiaoxiao stepped closer. "Go ahead and try! Bullying an educated youth, gathering for a brawl, invading someone’s home to commit assault—three charges together, and you’ll rot in jail."
The man who had been shouting retreated under her fierce glare, his face turning red with embarrassment. They all knew Su Xiaoxiao’s background and didn’t dare lay a finger on her despite their bluster.
Jiang Yexun, knowing they would cause trouble, had anticipated this. Standing behind her, he watched her fiercely protect him like an enraged little rabbit. "You better leave before I throw you out," he warned, his hand resting gently on Su Xiaoxiao’s shoulder, his cold gaze sweeping over the group.
Unwilling to leave empty-handed, Jiang Quansheng’s mother and Yu Siping’s mother sat down, crying and wailing. "This heartless family caused my son’s death! If not for them, my grandchild wouldn’t have died, and my son wouldn’t be dead.
"My daughter was living a good life after marriage, and now her family is ruined because of these two! They caused everyone in the village to suspect my son-in-law and that educated youth!"
They cried and rolled on the ground, creating a scene. Jiang Yexun, irritated by the damage to the yard, wanted to throw them out, but they screamed louder at his slightest movement.
"No need to throw them out. It’s cold, and there’s no entertainment. Listening to them cry and shout is like watching a play. It’s quite interesting," Su Xiaoxiao said, stopping him with a light laugh.
Jiang Yexun frowned but didn’t argue. Seeing she genuinely wanted to watch the commotion, he smiled and said, "I’ll get you a chair and a brazier so you don’t get cold."
"Okay," Su Xiaoxiao nodded happily.
