"She’s at the educated youth dormitory helping to make pickled vegetables for the winter," Aunt Guo replied with a smile as she moved the pots to the back of the kitchen. The kitchen wall provided privacy, preventing nosy neighbors from peeking in unless they climbed the outer wall, but no one in the brigade would dare such audacity.

Aunt Guo and Jiang Yexun arranged the large medicinal pots and brought out two spare stoves from the kitchen. "We need four more stoves. If you’re free tomorrow, go to the city and buy them," Aunt Guo instructed. Turning around, she noticed Jiang Yexun frowning deeply.

"What are you angry about now?" she asked curiously.

"I’m going to help the educated youth with the pickling," Jiang Yexun stated and started to leave.

Aunt Guo quickly held him back. "I know you care about Xiaoxiao, but she needs her own friends too. You can’t keep her only to yourself."

"It’s not that! Pickling vegetables involves rubbing salt, and her hands are too delicate for that," Jiang Yexun explained, still frowning.

Aunt Guo was taken aback by his concern, then laughed. "I hadn’t thought of that. Go help her then. Xiaoxiao is diligent and will insist on working hard."

Jiang Yexun nodded and hurried out, worried that Su Xiaoxiao might overexert herself. He ran to the educated youth dormitory and found Su Xiaoxiao helping with washing and prepping vegetables.

She joined Tao Junlan and Qian Siyu, who immediately nudged her. "See, we told you your boyfriend pampers you. It’s so enviable," Tao Junlan remarked. Qian Siyu nodded in agreement.

Initially, they had worried about Jiang Yexun’s temper and the Jiang family’s difficult nature. However, after these few months, it was clear that as long as Xiaoxiao had her future mother-in-law and fiancé firmly on her side, no one could bully her.
