Chapter 201: The Criticism Meeting of the Jiang Family

Su Xiaoxiao soaked in the hot water, meticulously washing herself until she was fragrant and clean. Though she felt a bit frustrated with her body’s involuntary reactions, she found joy in the intimacy shared with her beloved. Immersing her head in the water, she fluttered about with happiness. The noise startled Jiang Yexun outside, prompting him to anxiously inquire, "Little educated youth, are you alright?"

"I’m fine," Su Xiaoxiao quickly replied, sitting up with a blush staining her cheeks. She continued bathing until the water became lukewarm, then stepped out, drying herself thoroughly. She even used a fragrant cream as a body lotion, making herself smell delightful. Fortunately, the bathroom was equipped with heated walls, and the warm water maintained the room’s temperature, so she didn’t feel cold despite her lengthy bath.

Hearing the sounds from the bathroom, Jiang Yexun guessed she was finished and called out, "Once you’re done, don’t worry about cleaning up. I’ll take care of it."

"Thank you, Brother Yexun," Su Xiaoxiao responded sweetly. She dressed and emerged from the bathroom, her skin glowing rosy from the heat. Jiang Yexun couldn’t help but stare, nearly entranced. If not for the fear of losing control, he might have embraced her already.

"Hurry back to your room; the kang is warm," Jiang Yexun urged, feeling the chill in the air and worried for her. "I’ll leave the door open for you," Su Xiaoxiao teased, her eyes twinkling.

Jiang Yexun’s mind raced, his ears burning with embarrassment. "I know, just go to bed quickly so you don’t catch a cold," he insisted, his tone slightly strained. Su Xiaoxiao, understanding his fluster, obediently returned to her room without further teasing.

Once she closed her door, Jiang Yexun hurried into the bathroom. The wooden tub still held some hot water. The mere thought of her soaking in it made his already flushed ears and face burn hotter. He combined the remaining hot water into the tub, undressed, and stepped in. Her lingering scent enveloped him, and the thought of her recent presence in the tub overwhelmed his senses. Struggling with his thoughts, he finally gave in to his body’s desires, the sound of splashing water masking his deep groans.

Jiang Yexun took a long time with his bath, the water turning cold by the time he finished. He emptied the buckets, cleaned the tub, and extinguished the kerosene lamp before returning to Su Xiaoxiao’s room. The dim light revealed her sleeping sweetly, her innocent appearance melting his heart. Locking the door, he quietly undressed and climbed into bed. Before he could settle, Su Xiaoxiao instinctively cuddled up to him in her sleep, her head resting against him and her lips smacking softly before she drifted back into a deep slumber.

Jiang Yexun, his expression tender and full of affection, left the lamp burning and gently covered them with the blanket, ensuring she was warm. Only then did he allow himself to fall into a contented sleep.

---

The next morning, Su Xiaoxiao awoke to find Jiang Yexun had already slipped back to his room. Rubbing her eyes, she stepped out, greeted by Aunt Guo’s cheerful voice, "Xiaoxiao, hurry and freshen up. In half an hour, the brigade will hold a criticism meeting about yesterday’s incident."

Su Xiaoxiao, initially groggy, perked up instantly at the news. She quickly washed and dressed, so eager to witness the commotion that she skipped breakfast. Knowing these meetings involved lengthy slogans and speeches, Jiang Yexun prepared a thermos with fried dumplings and chive meat pies, and a flask of malted milk for her. They found a discreet spot where they could observe without drawing attention.

As Jiang Yexun opened the thermos, the aroma attracted envious glances. "Aunt Guo, despite your family’s troubles, you still manage to prepare such a good breakfast for your daughter-in-law?" someone remarked.

Aunt Guo, noting the lack of malice in the comment, responded with a smile, "Their misconduct has nothing to do with my daughter-in-law. She needs nourishing food to regain her strength. Besides, this is from her family’s money and rations; I’m just helping out. Wouldn’t dream of denying her that."

"You’ve married well. Few families cherish their daughters like this nowadays," the person sighed, admiringly.

"Indeed," Aunt Guo agreed. "Her family treats her like a treasure; we won’t mistreat her. Once Xiaoxiao and Yexun are married, she won’t need to work in the fields. She can stay home and tend to the chickens."

The person, recalling Su Xiaoxiao’s strength from the previous day’s events, thought better of commenting on her frailty and moved on.

Soon, a community leader took the stage with a loudspeaker. "Fellow villagers, comrades, we are here today to criticize Jiang Guoli. As the brigade leader, his improper conduct in falsely accusing his wife of over twenty years disqualifies him from his position. Therefore, the organization has decided to remove him and appoint Comrade Kong Dongfeng as the new leader."

The crowd applauded vigorously. The leader raised his hand to quiet them before continuing, "Jiang Quansheng, for his violent actions against his pregnant wife, resulting in her miscarriage and his subsequent neglect, along with Jiang Quankun and Hu Yuezhen’s complicity, must be punished. Jiang Quansheng is to carry manure for three months, while Jiang Quankun and Hu Yuezhen will forfeit three months’ work points."

The villagers murmured in agreement, the atmosphere charged with a mix of satisfaction and disapproval.
