The sound of rain had lessened, but it didn’t stop. Yujin couldn’t relax. He paced the hall, his eyes fixed on the front door. The family doctor had arrived about thirty minutes ago. It had been over an hour since Winston left. Angela had been missing for four, maybe five hours now.

It feels like my blood is drying up...

He had never felt such agony before. Not even when Winston abandoned him. Not when he was thrown out of the mansion while pregnant. Not even when he scavenged garbage just to survive on the streets. Nothing clenched his heart like this moment did.

Every time, he’d thought that was the worst it could get—so why did something worse always seem to come next?

Please, let this be the last.

Yujin clasped his hands together and closed his eyes as if in prayer. Please, Angie, be safe. Please come back.

Time passed again. Unable to bear it any longer, Yujin made a break for the door.

"You mustn’t, Mr. Yujin! Didn’t Mr. Campbell ask you not to?"

Cain quickly blocked his path.

Yes, Yujin understood that—rationally. But his anxiety was unbearable.

"But, but..."

Unable to finish his sentence, Yujin stood trembling. The butler softened his tone and coaxed him gently.

"She’ll return if you wait. Mr. Campbell went himself, didn’t he? There’s nothing he can’t do—you know that."

Is that true?

Yujin recalled the past hazily. Once, Winston had been his god. His absolute. He had promised Yujin he could do anything for him—and he really had.

Yujin, too, had been ready to give his life for Winston. His life was the only thing he had to offer—and it had been everything he had.

But not anymore...

The image of Winston cursing him, hurling accusations, scorning him—it all flashed in his mind as he clenched his eyes shut.

Just then, someone burst through the front door.

"Mr. Campbell has returned!"

Drenched in rain, one of the staff cried out. Yujin turned toward the door, ashen.

Lightning flashed, casting a harsh brightness over the darkened world—and through that light, Yujin saw Winston step in.

Carrying Angela in his arms.

"A... Angie..."

His throat tightened—he couldn’t even speak.

With a ragged breath, ✪ Nоvеlіgһt ✪ (Official version) he barely managed to whisper her name.

His body finally moved, rushing toward Winston.

Without a word, Winston handed her over.

"Angie, Angie... oh god, your body’s freezing—what do I do?"

Yujin clutched her tightly and burst into tears.

Winston watched silently, then turned his head.

At his small gesture, the doctor stepped forward immediately.

"Lay her on the bed so I can examine her. Bring lots of dry towels—now! We need to warm her body fast. Get blankets and light the fireplace, turn the heaters on full—move!"

"Quickly! Now!"

Cain barked the order and the staff scattered in unison.

Yujin followed the doctor and butler up the stairs, still holding Angela.

They entered a nearby room that had already been prepared.

Before laying her on the bed, Yujin started to undress her.

That’s when he noticed what she was wearing.

The large coat wrapped around her from head to toe—it was Winston’s.

He carefully peeled the soaked coat away and placed her on the bed. Cain immediately handed him dry towels and a change of clothes.

Except for the short time the doctor examined her, Yujin kept massaging her cold little limbs.

"Her body temperature is low, but it’s already coming back. When she wakes, give her some warm soup and water. Pulse is normal, and everything else seems fine. Thankfully, it looks like there’s no serious issue."

Only then did Yujin finally exhale the breath he’d been holding.

"Really... really? She’s okay? Truly?"

He repeated it several times, his voice trembling.

The doctor nodded reassuringly.

"You don’t need to worry too much. She should be playing around like usual by tomorrow."

He gave Angela’s cheek a gentle tap with his finger and smiled.

"This little troublemaker—where did she drop from, hmm? She turns the whole house upside down and now she’s sleeping like an angel. She’ll be unmanageable when she grows up."

The doctor’s joke made Yujin laugh through the tears.

If she just grew up healthy, that was all he could ever ask for.

As relief filled his chest, he saw Cain give a small nod behind him.

"Doctor."

"Yes, I know."

The doctor nodded, and when Yujin looked puzzled, he added with a smile,

"It’s something between me and Cain. Nothing to do with your child—don’t worry."

"Oh... okay."

Now truly at ease, Yujin walked the doctor to the door.

Left alone with Angela, he noticed a faint flush returning to her pale cheeks.

Her breathing had evened out—she looked better.

He gently massaged her limbs through the blanket, waiting for her to open her eyes.

"...Mmm."

As if in answer to his prayers, a soft sound escaped Angela’s lips.

Yujin’s eyes flew open. He leaned in, calling urgently,

"Angie? Are you awake? It’s Daddy, Angie!"

He tried not to sound too forceful, but his voice sped up with worry.

After calling her name several times, her eyelids fluttered—and finally, Angela opened her eyes.

Still dazed, she blinked up at Yujin, who held his breath watching her.

Then her mouth moved.

"...Daddy?"

"Yes, Angie!"

Unable to hold it in, Yujin pulled her into a tight hug.

Tears welled up again, and his voice trembled.

"You scared me so much. Why did you go out without saying anything? It was raining so hard—how far did you go? Do you know how worried I was?"

"I-I’m sorry... sorry, Daddy..."

She mumbled in his arms, apologizing.

Yujin quickly shook his head and said,

"No, it’s okay. You’re safe now, and that’s all that matters. Are you hurt anywhere? Let’s get you some warm soup—you’ll feel better faster."

He gently laid her back down and hurried to the phone.

After requesting soup, he returned and stroked his daughter’s cheek.

"Where did you go? You were gone for hours—we searched everywhere."

"I’m sorry, Daddy..."

Angela lowered her head, looking small and guilty.

Seeing her so crushed, Yujin decided not to press further.

"Next time, promise me you’ll only play near the house—and always tell Daddy before you go, okay?"

"Okay."

She nodded earnestly, and Yujin hugged her again.

Just then, a servant arrived with soup, and Yujin took it back to the bed.

"Let’s eat a little. It’ll warm you up. Still cold?"

She nodded softly and sat up.

He spooned some soup, cooled it with a gentle breath, and brought it to her lips.

Angela sipped it carefully.

"Daddy?" freeweɓnovel.cøm

"Yes?"

Halfway through the soup, Angela spoke.

"I didn’t go out to play."

Startled, Yujin paused mid-motion.

"What do you mean?"

Angela hesitated, then continued.

"You looked so tired, Daddy... I wanted to give you a present. Something to cheer you up."

His hand lowered slowly, still holding the bowl.

He set it on his lap, gazing at her in silence as she mumbled,

"There was a bell... at that house we went to before. I thought, if you heard that pretty sound again, it would make you happy..."

"Angie!"

She was talking about the annex.

Yujin’s voice rose instinctively.

Seeing her flinch, he quickly softened his tone and forced himself to speak calmly.

"Do you know how far that place is? You tried to go there alone? What if you got lost?"

"When we went together, it didn’t feel far..."

Angela’s eyes welled up as she lowered her head.

Of course—it had felt close when they were walking together, playing along the way.

But the idea of her trying to reach that distant place alone made Yujin’s heart sink.

"You must never go there alone again, okay?"

After this ordeal, she probably wouldn’t do anything like that again—but Yujin still needed her to promise.

As expected, she nodded quietly, looking downcast.

"I’m sorry, Daddy."

"No, Angie. I’m the one who’s sorry. I made you worry."

He placed the bowl on the side table and pulled her into a hug.

Angela wrapped her arms around his neck.

Yujin felt his nose sting as he gazed down at her face.

"Thank you for coming back safe, Angie. You must have found good shelter."

"I found a bunny hole."

Her eyes sparkled, and her voice perked up.

"It was raining so hard and the thunder was scary, but then I saw it. I ran inside and hid—like a hamster."

"You did great, Angie. Really great."

Angela grinned happily at the praise.

Yujin stroked her cheek gently and asked,

"But the rain must have been hard. Weren’t you cold?"

"I was. Really cold."

Angela nodded and continued.

"I got so sleepy... I tried to stay awake, but it was hard. I was scared I wouldn’t see you again..."

"And then?"

Yujin asked, heart tightening.

"Then... I smelled something really sweet."
