Kiss the Scumbag-Chapter 111
When the afternoon came, the doorbell at the front entrance suddenly rang. Yujin, exhausted from thinking and staring blankly, only realized it after the bell rang for the third time.
Who could it be?
There was no one else on the island. If it were Winston, he wouldn’t press the doorbell. Hesitating, Yujin cautiously headed to the entrance.
“Wh-who is it...?”
His voice trembled from unnecessary tension, and a voice of an older woman came from the other side.
“Hello, Mr. Campbell. I’m the caretaker of the mansion. Could you please open the door?”
Caretaker?
Yujin was momentarily stunned. After a few seconds, he regained his senses and hurriedly opened the door. Doubting but curious, he checked the faces outside and saw a middle-aged couple smiling warmly.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Dorothy Taylor. This is my husband, Jacob Taylor. We take care of the inside and outside of the mansion together. We’ve also prepared some simple meals for you. We thought you might want to eat something and stocked the fridge just in case — have you seen it yet?”
“N-no, not yet...”
He hadn’t even thought about eating. When hunger struck belatedly, Dorothy let out a light sigh and hurried inside. Startled, Yujin moved aside, and Dorothy headed straight for the kitchen. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
“I’ll prepare your meal right away. Don’t worry about my husband; he’ll take care of the household chores.”
True to her words, Jacob gave a simple nod in greeting and soon disappeared somewhere. Dorothy quickly prepared food on the table and called Yujin.
“Please eat comfortably. I’ll be cleaning upstairs, so just let me know if you need anything.”
Soon after, she vanished from sight, leaving Yujin completely alone. Blinking absentmindedly, he glanced around the table and hastily grabbed some bread. As he ate the warm, thick mushroom soup with the bread, his thoughts ❀ Nоvеlігht ❀ (Don’t copy, read here) slowly returned.
There’s no one else here besides me.
Then where did they suddenly come from? There was only one answer. Like Winston, they must have come from the mainland. But since he hadn’t heard any noise, they must have arrived by some other means, not by helicopter.
By boat.
Yujin suddenly forgot what he was eating and blinked blankly. Sitting there as if having realized something, he quickly finished his meal and placed the dishes in the dishwasher. Shouldn’t I be more calm? But the fleeting thought was immediately dismissed. Could he hesitate when he had left Angela alone? Without deep thought, Yujin decided to move.
“I’m going for a walk now!”
Calling toward the upstairs, Dorothy answered soon after. Pretending to be as calm as possible, Yujin stepped out of the mansion. Passing Jacob, who was trimming the garden trees, he walked leisurely at first but then quickened his pace. He kept glancing back anxiously.
There must be a place nearby to dock a boat.
Come to think of it, he vaguely remembered seeing something like that. He had been so focused on finding people that he hadn’t thought of anything else. Since there were no others, of course, there was no transport except for the helicopter. Moreover, the idea that someone came to do housework on his behalf was something he couldn’t even imagine given his background.
I should have thought from Winston’s perspective.
If it were him, he wouldn’t have realized that there was no one to provide his conveniences. From now on, I should try to think that way. It won’t be easy since I don’t know that life at all.
They’ll probably come every day, right? Maybe once every two days at the very least?
Yujin panted heavily, looking around anxiously. If he could take advantage of this chance, maybe he could escape from here. If only he could do that...
Just as he reached that thought, Yujin finally discovered it: a pier stretching long toward the sea, with a motorboat docked there.
What now?
Nervously, Yujin alternated his gaze between the mansion and the boat. He didn’t know how to drive a boat, so hijacking that boat and escaping was impossible. Winston probably expected that much, too. But Yujin couldn’t just give up there.
I have to figure out a way somehow.
This was definitely a chance that had come to him. He couldn’t believe such luck had found him, but now wasn’t the time to hesitate. Without much thought, Yujin decided to act.
I have to find Angie first.
There was only one place the child would be — obviously at Delight. Yujin stood there hesitating, unsure what to do, then finally stopped. Time kept flowing. He had to make a decision. It was the classic method, but the one with the highest chance. Yujin took a deep breath and looked around. Just then, he spotted a conveniently broken branch. Putting his plan into action took a lot of courage. His trembling hand barely moved, when suddenly Angela’s face flashed before his eyes. At that moment, hesitation completely vanished and was replaced by courage. Then he gripped his hand tightly and scratched the other arm with the branch.
“Oh my god, what should we do! Hurry, hurry!”
The couple who put Yujin on the boat and helped him escape from the island rushed toward the nearest hospital.
“Call Mr. Campbell, quickly! H-Here! We have a patient!”
The wife hastily took out her phone after seeing her husband supporting Yujin into the emergency room. She tried to call quickly but her trembling hands caused several mistakes. Leaving his wife behind, the husband shouted anxiously.
“Please see this patient quickly! Hurry!”
In the noisy commotion, Yujin was left alone on a bed. The husband had presumably gone to register, unseen, and the medical staff were busy coming and going without paying him any attention. Since the wound wasn’t very severe, the bleeding had already stopped.
Sorry for startling you.
Yujin silently apologized to the couple and quietly got off the bed to leave the hospital. Luckily, a taxi was waiting. Suddenly, his whole body seemed to lose strength and he felt dizzy, but he barely endured it. To pick up the child, he had to take that taxi. Gritting his teeth, he got in.
“D-Delight... to Delight.”
He barely managed to say this between heavy breaths, and the driver looked at him in surprise.
“Delight? You mean the Campbell estate?”
“Yes, that’s right. Please go quickly.”
Soon Winston would know everything. Before that, he had to escape with Angela. Yujin closed his eyes to suppress the swelling fear. Memories of that day suddenly overwhelmed him, making his whole body tremble convulsively.
It’s okay, it’s okay.
He forced himself to think of Angela’s face. That was the only way to overcome his fear. On the way to Delight, he lost consciousness several times, repeatedly opening his eyes and closing them.
“Yujin, what happened?”
Startled, the butler shouted as Yujin jumped out of the car. Gasping, Yujin barely opened his mouth.
“An-Angie, Angie... where is she?”
“She’s in her room. What on earth happened? That wound...”
Without waiting, Yujin ran hurriedly into the house. He had to leave quickly. Quickly take Angela and leave forever, never to return.
Quickly, hurry.
“Angie...!”
Barely able to breathe, Yujin mustered all his strength to open the door. The bright sunlight flooding the room made him close his eyes tightly for a moment. Slowly opening his eyelids to adjust to the light, the expected scene appeared before his eyes. His most precious daughter was sitting on the floor playing with toys. Her mouth formed the words Daddy clearly. The image of the child standing up with a bright smile seemed to move in slow motion. And Yujin saw Winston, sitting opposite Angela, also slowly rising just like the child.
“Honey.”
Winston’s voice seemed to come from far away. He smiled leisurely and continued.
“What brings you all the way here?”
At that moment, Yujin completely lost strength and collapsed right there.
