Chapter 11: The Mutator

Sho and Daigo sat cross-legged in deep meditation, their minds trying to detach from reality. The cold mountain breeze swept past them, but they remained still, following Fuyutake's instructions.

"Forget the reality. Only focus on yourself," Fuyutake's voice echoed in their ears. "If you do this correctly, you will see your inner world."

Daigo concentrated, blocking out every sensation around him. Slowly, he felt himself slipping into a different plane of existence. When he opened his eyes, he was no longer in the Azure Mountains but inside a vast, dark space illuminated by a faint golden glow.

Standing in front of him was a figure identical to himself, watching him with a smirk.

"Who are you?" Daigo asked, narrowing his eyes.

The figure crossed his arms. "I am your power. I am the Mutator."

Daigo furrowed his brows. "Mutator? What does that mean? What kind of power do I have?"

The Mutator chuckled. "You have the ability to evolve any living organism except those who already possess powers."

Daigo scoffed. "That sounds weak. What's the use of evolving something that can't fight?"

The Mutator laughed, shaking his head. "You will understand the true strength of your power soon enough. But first, you must earn it. Find the chain, pull it, and wrap it around your hand. Only then will your power awaken."

Daigo glanced around the strange realm, searching for the chain. He scanned the ground, the horizon, even the endless void above him, but saw nothing. He gritted his teeth, frustration creeping in.

"Where is it?" he muttered to himself. Then, his eyes landed on the Mutator's hand. Clutched tightly in his fist was a thick iron chain, glowing faintly with energy.

Daigo clenched his fists. "It's with you, isn't it?"

The Mutator smirked. "If you want it, take it."

Without hesitation, Daigo lunged forward, throwing a punch, but the Mutator dodged effortlessly. Their battle began, a flurry of strikes and counterattacks filling the inner world. Each time Daigo tried to grab the chain, the Mutator would evade or counter, testing Daigo's endurance and skill.

Time felt nonexistent in this space, but after what seemed like an eternity, Daigo managed to predict the Mutator's movement. He feinted an attack, forcing the Mutator to react, then swiftly grabbed the chain with his other hand.

"Got it!" Daigo shouted, pulling with all his might. The chain tightened around his hand, its energy surging through his body like an electric current. His muscles tensed, his mind expanded, and he felt an overwhelming power awakening within him.

The Mutator smiled approvingly. "Well done. Now, I become a part of you."

With those words, the Mutator dissolved into golden light and merged into Daigo's body. The chain shattered into glowing fragments that were absorbed into his skin, leaving behind a burning sensation that quickly faded into raw power.

Daigo gasped as he snapped back into the real world. His eyes fluttered open, his body drenched in sweat. He could feel it—his power had changed. His very presence felt different, stronger.

Fuyutake stood before him, a pleased expression on his face. "You've done it. Your power level is now 11,000."

Daigo's eyes widened in shock and excitement. "11,000?! That's... incredible!"

He clenched his fists, feeling the newfound strength flowing through him. It was unlike anything he had ever experienced before. He turned eagerly to Fuyutake.

"Has Sho returned yet, Fuyutake-sama?" he asked, curiosity and concern in his voice.

Fuyutake's expression grew serious. "No. Not yet."

Daigo's excitement dimmed slightly. Sho was still inside his inner world, facing his own trial. What kind of power was waiting for him? And would he succeed like Daigo had?

As he waited, Daigo couldn't shake the feeling that something even greater was on the horizon. And whatever it was, he and Sho needed to be ready for it.
